Am I Trusting God with my quiver if I take something to KEEP a pregnancy?

Posted in Quiverfull

Q. I was wondering what you believe and how you would approach the problem of women who take a drug to stay pregnant...Is it the same as taking pills to NOT GET pregnant?

A. Great question that isn't addressed often within quiverfull circles! I believe that if something is physically wrong with your body that rejects a pregnancy, it is okay to take medicine to sustain the life that God already placed within you. The same logic could be used with CPR...would you refuse to administer CPR because you might be "stepping on God's toes"? No, you would try to save that life that God had already created! If God chooses to take that life after you've administered CPR or after you took medicine or herbs to sustain a pregnancy, then that is His Will. You can then, rest assured, knowing that you did all that you could do for that life!

I have lost 6 babies during our 10 year marriage. It was a painful experience in many ways. After much petitioning to other healthcare professionals, I finally found a healthcare provider who would check my progesterone levels. She found that my levels were "on the low side of normal". She suggested that I take progesterone supplements for the first trimester, and since then I have had two healthy babies carry to term!! The problem was with my body not producing normal, God-created levels of a hormone. I don't think this would be interfering with God any more than it would be if I took an aspirin for a headache or chemo for cancer. I was merely preparing my "nest" for a baby that God sent me!

I hope that this answers your question!

Thank you so much for your reply. I never thought of it like that! I was also taking progesterone therapy as a "just in case" and am happy to know I am not alone. I often felt that perhaps with so many unsuccessful tries that God was trying to tell me I was not "meant" to have children. But I am glad I allowed myself to be open-minded and willing to accept what God had in store for me and my family.

Your blog is such a wonderful place to come and visit and I am so glad I finally asked the question that has been on my mind for so long.

Thank You,
Lori

Jun. 5, 2009 - progesterone cream

Posted by Anonymous
I was thinking of using this b/c i did have a miscarriage recently and I have a lot of the symptoms of low progesterone including midcycle bleeding. I was wondering if you know if it can decrease milk supply b/c I am nursing our adopted baby and really struggling with milk supply issues but my hormones are off too.....yes, we had a miscarriage and the same week found out we were adopting a newborn, totally gods timing and a miraculous story! Anyways, do you think it would decrease my supply or help get my hormones back in order, I find my supply is really low whenever I have the midcycle bleeding. mitchell8159@sbcglobal.net

hi, I found your blog site through Gathering at the Well, what a lovely family you have! I have a question... I wonder what your thought may be on taking fertility medicine to help a woman actually conceive?

Aug. 3, 2009 - When did you start progesterone?

Posted by Anonymous
After 3 miscarriages, I also was told my progesterone levels were on the low side of normal. I was given progesterone and carried the next pregnancy to term. I now find that I am unexpectedly but joyfully pregnant (after 7+ years) and am having a difficult time getting my dr. to respond to my calls. I tested for this pregnancy late as my cycles are way off (I'll be 40 in 2 months), so I'm already past 5 weeks. I'm terrified that I missed that window to begin the progesterone. I just can't remember when I started the progesterone 8 years ago.

Aug. 3, 2009 - Progesterone....

Hi! I take it as soon as I find out I'm pregnant. If you can't get someone to give you suppositories, start the cream!!! THEN, look for a new doctor who will respond to your calls. Even if you just switch back to your regular OB, you can get another to write a prescription (that's what I did...had to go to my primary care doc to get the suppositories).

Praying for you! And CONGRATULATIONS!
