My Mission Field
Matthew 9:37-38, "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest."
Do you sometimes hanker to be doing some great work for God? You feel as though you are wasting your life in your home. You would love to serve the Lord in some harvest field. Yes, it is true, the harvest is great and the laborers are few. But why are they few? Because mothers have not understood God's purpose.
Are you looking for an easy path in life in life or do you have a heart to serve God as a missionary? Dear mother, you are already a missionary. God has chosen your specific mission field for you. It is your home and family. You are employed by God to train laborers for His harvest field. You don't raise children and then send them to Bible College to prepare for service. You train them for God's service from the time they are little. They should be ready to labor in the harvest field when they come forth from your home.
Is a missionary's work easy? No, it takes sacrifice. Is motherhood easy? No, but it will be worthwhile. It takes everything you've got--all your resources of time, energy and strength--but you will influence nations. It takes sacrifice--many mothering days are exhausting and overwhelming--but you will receive the fruit of your labors and an eternal reward. It will take committed prayer and intercession, but your prayers will be answered. Remember, you are not on vacation; you are on the mission field!
Maybe God has only given you one laborer to prepare for Him--that His is plan for you. Maybe he has given you six, or even twelve! Wow, would twelve be too many? Jesus trained twelve disciples who impacted the world. How would you like to train laborers who "turn the world upside down"? (Acts 17:6)
What kind of laborers does God want us to faithfully prepare for His service? The following is my vision for our children, grandchildren and future generations. I believe He wants us to prepare children who are...
Baby lovers
Blessing imparters
Bible believers
Bible obeyers
Committed laborers in God's harvest
Courageous overcomers
Demon destroyers
Diligent workers
Evil haters
Faithful servers
Fearless soldiers
Freedom fighters
Fruit bearers
God fearers
God lovers
God pleasers
God worshippers
Gospel preachers
Holy Spirit empowered witnesses
Home lovers
Israel supporters
Jesus fanatics
Justice keepers
Life choosers
Light shiners
Liberal threateners
Obedient listeners
Parent honorers
Responsible citizens
Sharp arrows
Tomorrow's leaders
Truth bearers
Truth keepers
Truth lovers
Truth preservers
Truth seekers
Truth speakers
Persecution endurers
Prayer warriors
Righteousness lovers
Uncompromising disciples
Valiant conquerors
Wisdom getters and
Zealous servants of the Living God!
Wow! Can you imagine anything more exciting and fulfilling that raising laborers such as these? You couldn't have a greater mission field or a greater vision.
Love from NANCY CAMPBELL
PRAYER:
"Thank you, Lord, for showing me my mission field. Help me to serve you faithfully and to raise prepared laborers for your great harvest field. Lord, I am open for you to give me all the laborers you have planned for me to train. Amen."
AFFIRMATION:
I am a full-time missionary, recruiting and training laborers for God's harvest field.

Sunup to Sundown with a House Full of Children
By Judith Kowles
Jesus says, "My yoke is easy..." Are you stressed with your children? With your husband? Do you feel like you MUST do ALL the suggestions and EVERY page in the textbook or curriculum that you are using? If God has called you to homeschool, He does NOT intend for you to be stressed and burned out under this task.
God has placed a unique and special calling on the hearts of many mothers and fathers, especially during the past couple of decades.

Jessica Hulcy's Accident - KONOS
Jessica Hulcy's family has set up a web page for updates on her progress:
Unfortunately, the initial reports were far better than the actual situation. Apparently a VFD pumper truck T-boned the driver's door going 55-60 mph, and Jessica has multiple broken bones -- so many they will have to do surgery to stabilize her enough just to roll her over for more X-rays.
On the plus side she has been conscious some today and responding to her family in ICU.
Keep praying, and be sure to leave a note in the guest book; you have no idea how desperate you are for encouragement until you've been there -- I didn't.
In Christ

Did we do enough school?
by JulieBeth Lamb
It's the end of the school year. From this vantage point you are just happy to be nearing the summer break and the beginning of school seems so long ago. It is hard to remember the enthusiasm you had and all the plans, so many plans. Your children were going to be smarter, brighter, more Godly, well educated, and learn everything under the sun. It was all written out
neatly on pages of lesson plans. Looking back it somehow feels like hardly anything got done all year, there were so many days spent cleaning the house, making Christmas cookies, helping Grandma in the yard, visiting a friend who was having a bad day, skiing, playing in the mud (there was a lot of mud this year!), looking at old family photos, and. ah, yes, I do remember cracking the math book a few times.
Did we do enough school? How do I know? Who decides? If we really want to get technical we can look at the public school's approach to it. They use standardized tests to evaluate if a student is progressing. It doesn't tell if they are thriving, love learning, are really excited about a certain subject, all they really care about is a higher test score than last year. That tells us if they are better at taking tests than last year, if they are less nervous about test taking, if they have been taught to the test, and if they are having a good day today. It doesn't really tell us what we parents need to know.
As Christians there is only one way to measure how well we taught our students through the previous school year. Are they growing in God? Are theybetter prepared than they were before to be used by God now and as adults to live out His good plan for their lives? If we seek these things first, everything else will be added to their lives as needed by the perfecter of
our faith. Did we do enough "school"? What are the things that are truly of value, did we make time for them? Were there times spent in the Word, singing His praises and memorizing scripture? Did we make time for family meals, great conversation, and breaking bread together?
Did we visit the Lord and His family at church regularly and fellowship with believers for our mutual edification? Was there time spent in service to others, training up the next generation in Christian service, the true proof of our belief? Did we have fun with our children, enjoy these quickly passing years together before they speed away? Hours of daydreaming, thinking, planning, pretending, should have been accounted for also, they are very important. You did enough school. If there were some of these areas that you need to improve on, you can do more school next year.
You know in your heart how the school year went. Maybe Johnny needs to work on his reading over the summer and Suzie has to practice her multiplication tables. There is always more time for book learning. But you also know in your heart how much you love your children, more than anyone else on this earth. You know you have prayed over them and worked to provide them the things that God ordained for them, even when it didn't make sense, was overwhelming, or difficult. When God showed you that narrow path you followed it, just as you did when you chose homeschooling in the first place.
That is all we can do, that is all we should do, that is all that is required of us-to obey God in the area of our children's education and trust that He has given us and them everything they need and those things He hasn't provided were not needed. It is such a blessing that we don't have to provide our children everything they need, only one can do that, our Lord God, who loves our children even more than we and is working out His good plan in their lives.
Next school year lies before us in glorious anticipation. With God's help our plans will come together for another homeschool season. They will all be written out neatly on pages of lesson plans and we will be once again full of enthusiasm. We will do some more math, English, reading, history and science, but more importantly we will make time for God's Word, service,
family & friends, and mud and God will make up the rest.
Julie Beth Lamb thanks God for allowing these words to flow through her and prays they are a blessing to others as God has allowed them to bless her. She and her husband Rex have been homeschooling their five children in Oakdale, California since 1993. Contact her at Cowgirl4Ever@clearwire.net

At The Well (Titus 2 Study) - A closer look at Titus 2

Join me At the Well (click above banner) and answer these discussion questions! May we all grow in God through this study! ~ Lisa
When you read the Scripture found in Titus 2: 2-5, how do you see this playing out in your own life? I think that Titus 2 is a beautiful word picture of what true Christianity for women is when put into action! This passage speaks VOLUMES if we will only listen!
What are your areas of strength? Of weakness? My area of weakness, believe it or not, is patience! You say, "Well how on earth can you have 8 kids and be willing to accept more, as God sends them, if you have problems with patience?" Well, that is what God's grace is for, right? He moves us through our tough times, and He GROWS us through our daily walks and struggles. Why give up in an area that God can be glorified through? I would never trade my struggles (nor my precious children that are or are yet to come) for an easy walk through life! I'm only human, but I desire to please Jesus nonetheless!
My area of strength is that I have a true love for my husband and children! I desire to be a godly wife and mother and I do my best to work toward becoming all God has created me to be!
If you could set some sort of goal in relation to this Scripture, what would it be? As said above, I desire to work toward being all that God wants me to be – as a woman, wife, and mother. I think that by studying Titus 2 more closely that it will booster my personal defenses against Satan’s fiery darts!

Am I a Saint or am I Insane for Homeschooling?
I normally receive one of two extreme responses when folks find out I am homeschooling my children. They either think I am a saint, or they think I am insane (maybe not using those exact words, but their attitudes and facial expressions reveal their amazement either way).
Let's look at the first reaction for a moment. The grand response of, "You are lifted up in my eyes and must be on a whole different level to be able to raise all those children AND homeschool them on top of it--you must be a saint!!" Well, in reality, they are right. We are all called saints if we are called children of God. However, we are all on the same level before Him: one of humility before HIS greatness, not ours. And I think that all of us homeschoolers would be quick to say that, but for the grace of God, we would not be doing what we are doing. And that we are nothing and can do nothing without Him. So, really, HE is the One to be lifted up, and not we ourselves. We must always point back to Him and say, "God is good, not me." And yet, even knowing our lack of goodness (as there is none good, no not one) God calls us saints before Him - even 95 times in the KJV! Here is one of those 95 that proclaim just Who is the One to be not only "looked up to" but to be humbly, fervently, worshipped:
"And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints." Rev. 15:3
Now the opposite extreme response is to assume we are insane! Don't you love those looks of disdain and condescension? Those voices saying, "how could you, why would you, don't you care, don't you worry, aren't you afraid, I would be crazy to attempt it" seem to ring throughout your being trying to shake your conviction. But praise be to God, when we stand strong in our calling and convictions, the Lord takes up our offense. Let's think about that word, "insanity." A current humorous definition, which I'm sure you've heard, is this: "Continuing to do the same thing over and over and expecting different results." If that is true, then that is exactly what the government is doing by continuing to pour billions of dollars into a failing public education system and expecting different results. Oh but wait, the results have changed, and current research states that things are getting worse than ever before.
Insane. I kind of like that word. It really means "not in one's right mind. Utterly senseless or foolish." Now, why would I like such a word? Well, biblically speaking, God has made the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. While some look at homeschooling as foolish, God raises up children of excellence in character who are growing in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man. Man's wisdom is really utterly senseless in the eyes of God. To not be in one's right mind can also be a good place as we seek to exchange our thoughts and feeble wisdom in order to know the mind of Christ and operate under His thoughts and wisdom. Totally foreign thinking to the world, but life changing to the believer.
"Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain." 1 Corinthians 3:18-20
"For who hath known the mindof the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mindofChrist." 1 Corinthians 2:16
So, the next time someone thinks you are a saint or that you are insane, let them know that you are BOTH, and be sure to let them know that you will continue to keep those children Home Where They Belong.

Controlling Anger Toward Our Children - My Utmost for His Highest
~ God’s Word ~
Psalm 123:3 “Be gracious to us, O LORD, be gracious to us, for we are greatly filled with contempt.”
~ Oswald Chambers Thoughts ~
“The temper of mind is tremendous in its effects, it is the enemy that penetrates right into the soul and distracts the mind from God…Beware of the cares of this world because they are things that produce a wrong temper of soul. It is extraordinary what an enormous power there is in simple things to distract our attention from God. Refuse to be swamped with the cares of this life.”
~ Lisa’s Thoughts ~
Don’t all moms deal with anger toward our children at times? This is a constant battle with nearly every mother. No, you are not alone! Even the author of Psalm 123 recognizes our inadequacies in being filled with contempt. It is easy to give in to our contempt and anger, but we must constantly take each thought captive. II Corinthians 10:5b says, “…we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Far too often mothers can find themselves worrying over things which are temporal. We react to these as if the world is falling down around us. Instead, we should look at the eternal picture, focusing on how we can affect this situation by either displaying or controlling our anger through our reaction to the situation at hand.
Let’s all try today to see the big picture, as God sees it, rather than responding in anger and regretting our responses. Take every thought (and action) “captive to the obedience of Christ” and live the way Jesus wants us to live!

"Imagine If..." The Reality of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
Imagine an Air Force mom, serving her country on a month-long deployment, who learns that her daughter has been secretly removed by local authorities, claiming the child has been "abandoned." Children begin mandatory sex-education at the age of four, regardless of their family's opinions, beliefs, or convictions, and parents are imprisoned if their children fail to receive any of their mandatory vaccinations. Parents live in a state of constant supervision and suspicion.
Imagine if your national government had the audacity to appoint a "guardian" to monitor your child from birth, charged with the legal responsibility to evaluate your decisions as a parent and armed with the legal authority to "intervene, prevent or rectify" any violations of your child's rights. Public and private schools alike are policed by the national government, and classes begin with singing about the principles of peace, tolerance, and the United Nations. Your child's confidential medical records, stored in a nation-wide electronic register from birth until age twenty, can be accessed at any time, without your knowledge, by any physician, teacher, or government social worker in the nation.
Now stop imagining, because for parents in the 193 countries that have ratified the United Nations' Convention on the Rights of the Child, each of these scenarios is true. Read the rest of this article.

At The Well (Titus 2 Study) - Arise and Shine: Being an Exceptional Mother in the Midst of the Ordinary
As your host At The Well this week, I have chosen the topic of Arise and Shine: Being an Exceptional Mother in the Midst of the Ordinary. I invite you to post your own thoughts, using the discussion questions as a guide, on your own blog. Make sure to use Mr. Linky (below) and post a comment on my blog! I'd LOVE to hear from you!
~ Lisa Metzger
1. What daily tasks seem mundane or monotonous to you?
2. How can we change our outlook when completing these tasks?
3. What impact do these tasks have on our husband and children? How does it make a difference in their lives?
4. Is it okay to focus on earthly recognition when completing these tasks for our loved ones, or is receiving an eternal reward sufficient? Which does Jesus think is more important? Shouldn’t that be our focus, as well?
Homeschool mothers can most assuredly relate to the feelings that come from drudgery. The days are long and tedious. The success that comes of the toil sometimes goes unseen for months, maybe even years. Our lives seem downright plain and ordinary. Our work goes unnoticed. Our existence remains unobserved. Life can become commonplace. Where do we go from here? How can we keep going from day to day?
Oswald Chambers said, “Drudgery is one of the finest touchstones of character.” A touchstone is defined as “a hard black stone, such as jasper, formerly used to test the quality of gold or silver by comparing the streak left on the stone by one of these metals with that of a standard alloy.” A touchstone is a gauge, which is used to test the quality of a precious metal in comparison to a commonplace metal. During our times of drudgery, do we want to show our character as being that of pure gold or as a mixture of commonplace metals? I would much rather present myself to Jesus as gold - experiencing the ordinary, rather than being ordinary.
The truth is that our feelings of inadequacy overpower us when we fail to see God’s handiwork in the smallest details of our everyday lives. We wait for God to show us the extraordinary thing for which we have been laboring. We look for Him to guide us to our pinnacle of success so that we can, then, give Him the glory. We should be giving Him the glory throughout the mundane tasks that are before us each day. It is when we are in the valley - between the pinnacles of success - that we see where we have been and how far He has led us.
Jesus stepped down from His heavenly domain and meekly washed His disciple’s feet. In turn, let us walk the path of humility that He has placed before us. We are not so admirable that we deserve the praiseworthy work rather than what Jesus has given us to accomplish. His plan is perfect and we must accept the plan, no matter how ordinary that plan may seem. Seeing the exceptional within the ordinary, makes the mundane extraordinary.
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the Glory of the Lord rises upon you.”
Isaiah 60:1
The Glory of God is upon you on the mountain tops of success and in the valleys of the commonplace. Take your place; accept your calling; place your feet firmly on the path; look toward the goal; arise and shine!

At The Well (Titus 2 Study) - Responding Well to Interruptions
|
How do you handle interruptions in your days?
Do you plow right on over them missing opportunities God has placed on your path?
What interruptions frustrate you the most?
How are you working to overcome that?
This is a topic that I do not enjoy discussing. I do not always handle interruptions graciously and sometimes I do not remain spirit-led when handling those “blessed interruptions”. I am the first to admit that I am not good at this, although I’m sure my hubby and kiddos would attest to this fact. J
I am a very organized person. I like to accomplish my plan, make those nice little marks on my checklist and only then can I handle the spontaneity that the day ushers in with grace. In other words it’s, “Me first, others second.” Eeeek!
The question is, CAN I handle these interruptions graciously? Can I look at them as being blessings? Yes, I CAN, but it is something I must CHOOSE to do. Aren’t all our actions chosen by us, whether good or bad? Let us all choose to handle our interruptions with grace, dignity and continue to be guided by the Holy Spirit in our daily lives!

Spiritual Survival for Mothers
| Spiritual Survival for Mothers |
|
| By Bonita Lillie
Summer 2007
How do I find time for Bible study and prayer? I've heard so many mothers ask this question, and when I had small children I asked it myself. When you're drowning in a sea of diapers and toys, it's hard to find time for God. Yet, it's absolutely necessary, because a mother sets the tone of the home.
You've probably heard the saying, 'If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.' Well, if Mama isn't getting her quiet time alone with God, she's not going to be happy and will likely be quite snappy. Nobody needs spiritual food more than a busy mom! It's one thing to know this in theory and quite another to put it into practice. What steps can an overloaded mom take to ensure that she remains in close fellowship with the Lord? Is getting up before the rooster crows the only answer? Here are a few suggestions that have worked for me.

Not Now, I'm Busy
| Not Now, I'm Busy |
| By TEACH columnist Laurel Diacogiannis |
| When my oldest daughter was five, she came to me one morning and whispered, "Mommy, can I talk to you?" As I turned to her and started to say, "Not now, I'm busy," the Lord stopped me. I heard in my heart, "If you take the time to listen to her today, she will still want to talk to you when she is 15." Since I had heard from so many mothers that their teens did not talk to them, I knelt down and listened as she told me what was on her mind. It would have been so easy to tell her that I was busy, yet I am so glad that I listened to the prompting of the Lord that morning. Now, eleven years later, I am still busy, but I cannot imagine what would have happened if I had continued to use that excuse whenever the children came to me.

You Know You're A Homeschool Mom When...
You Know You're A Homeschool Mom When...
author unknown
You get to change more than diapers, you get to change their minds.
When a child busts a lip, and after seeing she's okay, you round up some scotch tape to capture some blood and look at it under the microscope!
You find dead animals and actually consider saving them to dissect later.
Your children never ever leave the "why?" stage.
When your teenager decides to take one community college course, and comes home and asks you why the teacher wrote "At" on his paper. (A+)
You ask for, and get, a copier instead of a diamond tennis bracelet for your wedding anniversary.
Your kids think reading history is best accomplished while lying on the floor with their head resting on the side of their patient dog.
Your husband can walk in at the end of a long day and tell how the science experiment went just by looking at the house.
You never have to drive your child's forgotten lunch to school.
The only debate about the school lunch program is whose turn it is to cook.
You never have to face the dilemma of whether to take your child's side or the teacher's side in a dispute at school.
If your child get's drugs at school, it's probably Tylenol.
Your neighbors think you are insane.
Your kids learn new vocabulary from their extensive collection of "Calvin & Hobbes" books.
Your formal dining room now has a computer, copy machine, and many book shelves and there are educational posters and maps all over the walls.
You have meal worms growing in a container....on purpose.
If you get caught talking to yourself, you can claim you're having a PTA meeting.
Talking out loud to yourself is a parent/teacher conference.
You can't make it through a movie without pointing out the historical inaccuracies.
You step on math manipulatives on your pre-dawn stumble to the bathroom.
The teacher gets to kiss the principal in the faculty lounge and no one gossips.
Your honor student can actually read the bumper sticker that you have put on your car.
If your child claims that the dog ate his homework, you can ask the dog.
Some day your children will consider you to be a miracle-working expert and will turn to you for advice.
Your kids refer to the neighbor kids as "government school inmates."
You can't make it through the grocery produce department without asking your preschooler the name and color of every vegetable.
You can't put your produce in your cart without asking your older student to estimate it's weight and verify accuracy.
You live in a one-house schoolroom.
You try to (quickly) capture the huge bee that was knocked unconscious as it accidentally flew into your car window, so the kids can classify and inspect it.
Your bank statement reflects the fact that you spend more at Books-A-Million than at fancy clothing stores.
You've got more books and bookcases than anyone you know.
You DREAM of a room (or even a whole house!) with wall to wall, ceiling to floor bookshelves.
The walls of your dining room are decorated with posters of the US Presidents, Periodic Table of Elements, Map of the Moon, Spanish Conjugation Chart and a copy of the Declaration of Independence, not to mention a poster of the Ten Commandments since no one can tell you not to!
You have children draped all over the furniture....and they're reading...for the FUN of it!
Your children actually enjoy spending time with their family, even their siblings!
Your children aren't embarrassed to be seen playing with someone younger than they are!
You are on a first name basis with the majority of local librarians.
You've laughed out loud when someone asked you "What about socialization?"

"Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you [Greek - reveal; disclose]. Only let us live up to what we have already attained." Philippians 3:12-16
Whew! Now I can relax. No need to be perfect quite yet, although I should have that as my goal. I have not arrived, nor will not arrive until I get to Heaven. What I must do now is:
- Keep running the race
- Focus on what's ahead
- Pray that God will make all things clear to me, so that I might strive to live up to what I know to be true, according to His Word!
