The Homekeeper's Woes - If Only I Could Keep This House Clean for 20 Minutes!

Do you ever wish that you could keep something in your house clean for more than 2 minutes?

Do you ever wonder why the kids can't keep their sticky hands off of the walls or their muddy shoes off of your newly mopped floor?

Are you ever incredulous as to why your husband has to rifle through the neatly organized sock drawer looking for a pair of socks that were on top to begin with?

I know that we have all thought these thoughts, as homekeepers, at least twice every day! I've been there myself many times. However, how can we think like that if we realize what we have and what rewards we are reaping in the process of this entire homekeeping experience? Think of Proverbs 14:4 "Where no oxen are, the manger is clean, But much revenue comes by the strength of the ox."

Labor has its rough, unpleasant side, yet it ends in profit. So also, the life of contemplation may seem purer, "cleaner "than that of action. The outer business of the world brings its cares and disturbances, but also "much increase." There will be a sure reward of that activity in good works for him who goes, as with "the strength of the ox," to the task to which God calls him.
(from Barnes' Notes)

What if we had no "oxen"? Yes, our homes would be neat and clean. We'd be able to sit down with our cups of coffee or tea and read a good book for hours each day. The floor would only need to be mopped once a month. And, come to think of it, sock drawers would never again have to be organized because we would always keep them the way we had so meticulously arranged!

What if the Lord had not given us a husband or children? What would our lives be like anyway? They would certainly be much different. Would you really trade all that for a clean floor, clean walls and a bit of simple organization? I wouldn't dream of it!

I know that someday I will wake up to find that God has closed my womb. My children will have grown up and gone to raise their own families. Yes, my house will be clean and tidy. Yes, I can take a coffee break any time I choose. Maybe I'll still be taking care of my husband and meeting his needs in the area of keeping our home, but maybe he will have gone to Glory ahead of me

.

We never know what the future holds. We need to appreciate the tasks set before us NOW by God! We need to take pride in our God-given roles of wife and mother! When we get discouraged, we really need to focus on what life would be like without our precious children and husband. I doubt that any of us would truly be willing to sacrifice all that we have for a little relaxation and ease. Think of our reward when we have raised Godly children for Jesus and helped our husband, as God had called us to do! How great is our reward!

Remember...."Where no oxen are, the manger is clean, But much revenue comes by the strength of the ox." Proverbs 14:4

Embrace Your Calling as Mother! Motherhood is God's Design!

Here are a few reminders of the greatness of your divine calling.

1. YOU ARE THE REVEALER OF GOD’S MATERNAL HEART
Dear Mother, in all the activities and work of keeping your home, never lose sight of your highest purpose – to walk in the anointing of your maternal instinct. This is who you are. You are a maternal being. You were created to ooze with nurturing. This is the greatest need of your children. This is the greatest need of this sin-sick hurting world. It does not matter if you do not finish every project and every teaching course you have planned for your children, but it does matter that your children live in an atmosphere of nurture and love. Embrace your maternalness. Pour it out upon your family and all you meet. In doing this you will walk in the anointing and glory of womanhood.

2. YOU ARE A NATION SHAPER
More than anyone else, you as a mother can determine the destiny of the nation. You may feel as though you are hidden in your home while many of your neighbors drive off to work each morning. They may think you are wasting your life, but they have no idea of what you are doing! They don’t realize that you are shaping lives. You are polishing and sharpening “arrows”. You are getting children ready to fulfill God’s divine purposes for their lives. There will come a day when they will come forth out of your home to rock this nation – and even the world!

Look out world! Get out of the way, Satan. There is a mother in this home who knows who she is and knows her calling from God. You can trifle with this woman. She is like an awesome army with banners! (Song of songs 6:4,10)

3. YOU ARE A LEGACY MAKER
You not only can you determine the destiny of this nation, but you will influence the generations to come. Ruth became the great-grandmother of King David and I am sure she had the privilege of holding him in her arms. Did you ever read about Hudson Taylor who founded the China Inland Mission? His godly generation started with his great-grandfather who lived in the time of John Wesley. This godly line has passed on from one generation to the next and there are now nine generations of preachers in the Taylor family.

What mighty children will be born in your following generations as you strongly impress God’s ways into the hearts of your children?

4. YOU ARE AN ETERNITY FILLER
Your influence goes even beyond the many generations to follow. Motherhood is an eternal career. Every precious baby that you embrace from the hand of God is another eternal soul that will live forever. There is absolutely nothing more powerful and more eternal that you could do in this life than bring an eternal soul into this world! You will leave everything in this world behind – except your redeemed soul and the redeemed souls of your children.

5. YOU ARE A HOME NESTER
Don’t let this humanistic society deceive you to think that your home is a boring place. On the contrary, it is a place of divine appointment for you. It is a sacred place. God chose the home as the place where He wants His children nurtured and raised. Before God gives us children, he first puts us in a home. Psalm 113:9 “He makes the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children.” Our humanistic society provides daycares for children but these are poor substitutes for the home. A little boy was asked why he didn’t like daycare. “Because I didn’t have a mommy,” he replied.

Embrace your home. Thank God for it. Know that it is where God wants you to be to fulfill your great commission.

6. YOU ARE THE SENTINEL OF YOUR HOME
Husbands guard the city gates but you stand sentry at your home, guarding against all inroads of the enemy. You watch in prayer. You watch over the bodies, souls and spirits of your children. As I raised our children, I made Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonians in 5:23 my goal, “I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

7. YOU ARE A WALKING PRAYER MEETING
Prayer should be inseparable from motherhood.
It is pretty difficult to adequately mother without constantly looking to the Lord. Abraham Lincoln said, “I remember my mother’s prayers, and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all of my life.”

Perhaps you have a child who has gone astray or is giving you much concern. Don’t despair. Keep praying. They cannot get away from your prayers. When the great Latin Church father and theologian, Augustine, went away to college, he got in with the wrong crowd and became a worldly young man for many years. Monica, his mother, had one vision – that her son would know God and be a preacher. She prayed and interceded continually. Her whole life was given to prayer. When he eventually came to the Lord in answer to her prayers she said, “I have fulfilled my task. I am now ready to go to the Lord,” and she died soon after.

8. YOU ARE THE BEST TEACHER AND TRAINER OF YOUR CHILDREN
There is no one who can teach your children better than you can. Proverbs 6:20-23 says, “Do not forsake the law of your mother. Bind them continually upon your heart; tie them around your neck. When you roam, they will lead you; when you sleep, they will keep you; and when you awake, they will speak with you...”

Abraham Lincoln said again, “The greatest lessons I ever learned were at my mother’s knees.

George Washington said, “All that I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.”

John Wesley said, “I learned more about Christianity from my mother than from all the theologians of England.”’

Dear mother, God has chosen you to be the mother of your children. No one can do it is well as you can. And God is behind you all the way. He has commissioned you to the task and He will empower you.

Love from NANCY CAMPBELL

What is a Woman's Life Purpose? What is YOUR Life Calling?

I find the below passages of Scripture to be very clear on my life purpose as a woman of God. I do not doubt for a moment that God knows what's best for me, as does any parent, and I wholeheartedly trust that HIS way is best! After all, isn't it HE Who created me in the first place?

**Titus 2:3-5 "Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored."

The word for "workers at home" [oikougous] is directly translated from the Greek to mean: "guardians of the house," "a stayer at home," "keeper of the home" or "worker at home." The root for the word "home" [oikos] directly translates "by implication a family."

**1 Timothy 5:3 "Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need. But if a widow has children or grandchildren, these should learn first of all to put their religion into practice by caring for their own family and so repaying their parents and grandparents, for this is pleasing to God."

**1 Timothy 5:13 "Besides, they [young widows] get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to. So I counsel younger widows to marry, to have children, to manage their homes and to give the enemy no opportunity for slander. Some have in fact already turned away to follow Satan."

Personally, after studying Proverbs 31 and the above verses, it seems obvious to me that God does has a specific plan for me in which I am to be a godly wife, busy at home and that I should be raising my children according to Deut. 6. When my mothering "stage" is over, I still think that God clearly shows us that we are still to be busy at home or within our church and community. I believe, that the calling in that area will be different to each woman. In 1 Timothy it says that young widows (this could also be applied to the "childless") should "practice religion" and care for their own family...repaying parents and grandparents. That could be taking care of them when they are elderly. Also in Proverbs 31, you see this woman out in the community "extending her hand to the poor" and such as that. Can you imagine the impact on the world and in the Church is all women took on just one of those two roles within the family, church or community?! I think many would be so impressed that they would come to know Christ through their actions! If we all applied Scripture to our lives like that, the world would be a MUCH different place! Can you imagine the heritage and impact that you would leave behind? Wow! That gives me chills!

The funny thing is that many view motherhood to be fruitless and somewhat insignificant (purposeful-LESS). Just think of how many generations you are impacting or affecting by raising up those godly arrows you've been blessed with. Look at Susanna Wesley (John and Charles Wesley's mother) and how she made impacts for generations and generations by JUST staying at home, being busy at home and teaching her children according to Deuteronomy 6! Wow! That is one big purpose! We might not be viewed as being "great" here on earth, but I believe that a faithful mother and faithful grandmother, etc. will hear those coveted words, "Well done my good and faithful SERVANT!" It's not all about us and our "feel-good" calling, but of what God has called us to in His Word.

Now, go live out your God-given purpose in life! Be proud of your mission and take it seriously!

Beautiful Homemaking Quote

"Homemaking--being a full-time wife and mother--is not a destructive drought of uselessness but an overflowing oasis of opportunity; it is not a dreary cell to contain your talents and skills but a brilliant catalyst to channel creativity and energies into meaningful work; it is not a rope for binding your productivity in the marketplace, but reins for guiding your posterity in the home; it is not an oppressive restrain of intellectual prowess for the community, but a release of wise instruction to your own household; it is not the bitter assignment of inferiority to your person, but the bright assurance of the ingenuity of God's plan for complementary of the sexes, especially as worked out in God's plan for marriage; it is neither limitation of gifts available nor stinginess in distributing the benefits of those gifts, but rather the multiplication of a mother's legacy to the generations to come and the generous bestowal of all God meant a mother to give to those He entrusted to her care."

What are we working toward anyway?

The industrial revolution came and took the men from the home. Compulsory schooling came and took the children from the home. Feminism came and took the women from the home. And now...they are all out working to pay the mortgage so the dog can stay at home by himself.

What have we done to ourselves in the name of prosperity? ~ Lisa

Thankful Thursday - My Home

I am thankful for my beautiful home! I LOVE this poem! Enjoy!
My Home
As one God has blessed with a home....
My duty is to create and maintain a space that honors God, nurtures the spirit, enhances growth, and ministers to others.
My delight is to enjoy the home I've shaped and the send of accomplishment that comes from obedience.

Need Help or Encouragement in the Hospitality Department? Check These Out!

Share Stories
•   Describe ways you've offered hospitality, or received it. If a particular experience was painful, explore options for doing things differently next time.
•   Each Advent, children and adults of the Mission District of San Francisco re-enact the story of Joseph seeking lodging for his young wife, Mary, who is weary from travel and heavy with child. For nine nights in a row, people "become" the weary couple or the innkeepers, exchanging at various houses the ancient request for shelter (posada), and the traditional rejection. On the ninth night, Christmas Eve, one innkeeper offers the couple his stable, and then people celebrate the birth of Jesus as well as the generosity of the innkeeper. Las Posadas is a ritual of rejection and welcoming, slamming the door on the needy and opening it wide. How might you enact this story in your own setting?

Welcome Others
•   Are there some people in your neighborhood who seem to practice hospitality especially well? Ask them to talk with you about how they learned to be hospitable, and how they understand it.
•   Post signs at nearby street corners inviting people to your church's after-worship coffee hour.
•   Educate yourself on immigration issues in your state or nation. Look for ways to help shape public policy on immigration.
•   Invite people in your community who come from other cultures to help you offer a "taste of __________" evening. Organize it and help provide ingredients for preparing special dishes.
•   Invite an architect or landscaper to talk to you about assessing how your home or church space speaks welcome.
•   Have bread-baking parties at someone's home or in the church kitchen. Keep loaves of homemade bread in the freezer as gifts to Sunday morning visitors.

Offer Shelter
•   Establish a house or space where people passing through can spend a night or two.
•   Research organizations in your area that house and feed people on an emergency basis. Make copies of addresses and phone numbers, along with simple maps, and keep them in your car. Offer a copy to any panhandlers you meet.
•   Donate food online at The Hunger Site.
•   Consider offering some of your church space to house a local service organization.
•   Learn about the Sojourner Community and their ministries in Washington, D.C. at www.sojo.net.
•   Central City Hospitality House has been serving the homeless community in San Francisco's Tenderloin district since 1967. Programs consist of a shelter for homeless adults, a drop-in self help center, an employment program, and a community arts studio.

The Biblical Command for Being Hospitable & Other Ramblings

"Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality." ~ Romans 12:13

"To welcome the stranger is to acknowledge him as a human being made in God's image; it is to treat her as one of equal worth with ourselves - indeed, as one who may teach us something out of the richness of experiences different from our own." ~ Ana Maria Pineda

The Greek word xenos means "stranger", but also "guest" and "host". From xenos comes the New Testament word for hospitality: philoxenia means a love of the guest/stranger or enjoyment of hosting guests. Recall a time when you experienced the enjoyment of being a host... when you were the guest of a gracious host. ~ Practicing our Faith

This book I have read and, boy, is it convicting! Hospitality is not an option for Christians! It is a command! I highly recommend this!

This is next on my "wishlist" at Vision Forum!
