My Reading Plan

This is a partial list of books I hope to get through in the coming year as part of our study of ancient history.

These are from the 100 Great Books list at Classical Christian Homeschooling. I took the ones from the top 20 list that I had not yet finished:

Homer, Iliad, Odyssey (I'm about halfway through the Iliad)

Plutarch, Greek and Roman Lives (OK, maybe not the whole thing, but at least several of them.)

Anthanasius, On the Incarnation

Hillyer, A Child's History of the World (I actually picked this up at a library book sale once and then discovered it's frequently recommended in Charlotte Mason lists. On my initial flip-through I wasn't that impressed, but I want to give it a second chance.)

I keep getting ahead of myself and wanting to read books on Ancient Egypt, but first I should do some thinking about what sort of books on Creation I think to be worthy reads from a literary standpoint as well as a philosophical one.

We are going through Hilyer's Child's History of the World as part of our blitz through history right now! (I'm substituting other things at the very beginning--just the first 5 chapters or so and the very end, but I like the stuff in the middle!)

Illiad and Odessy are grand too! I read both in Highschool and again in college, and my husband just finished reading through them again a month ago.

Love your book ideas, and am very impressed with you starting now so you'll have background! WOW!

I blogged about the books on Creation we are doing... If you go to my sidebar and click on "On the coffee table" you'll see our choices. (Doesn't mean they'll be YOUR choices though.)

Love your blog!

Great ideas!

I have a public school background but was convicted to homeschool right after I got married. I have a 13 month old and it's really hard to wait to start homeschooling her! I know how you feel on that one.

Thanks for your stories and thoughts! I really enjoyed your list of books...I have a tab open just to it to remind me to write them down. We are collecting children's books, old and new, and there are several used book stores I may be able to pick these titles up at.

I have so many scattered lists and resources that getting them organized to get starting will be...interesting to say the least!

be sure and post about that child's history of the world. i've seen very good reviews on it but they don't have it at our library and i've never gotten a chance to see it in person. just wondering if it's really all that they say it is.

Plutarch

We have some helps (links and notes) for Plutarch on the Ambleside Online website, if you want to make use of them.
