Wherever I Go, There's Always Pooh

D1 thrilled me this week by bringing me Winnie-the-Pooh and asking me to read it to her. Indeed, I was so thrilled I neglected to remind her that she's not supposed to be pulling the books off of my shelves.

So after D2 goes down for his nap, we sit on her bed and read a chapter. How much she gets out of it I have no idea; Pooh always surprises me with its sophistication. She dances around on her bed, climbs in and out of my lap, and often looks at the pictures in other books. Sometimes she tries to make out the small illustrations:

"It's Pooh!"

"Actually, that's Eeyore."

"Another Pooh!"

"Actually that's Christopher Robin."

(Closer inspection) "It's a horse!"

"Well, close. It's a donkey and it's Eeyore."

But every day she wants to read another chapter. So every day we do. We shall, I'm sure, come back to the Hundred Acre Wood many times before she's grown, and someday she will be able to tell Eeyore from Pooh at a glance. Even now, though, I like to think she is building the landscape in her mind.

I'm not sure what we'll do when we're done. Maybe we'll just go back to picture books in our special reading time or maybe we'll try Thornton W. Burgess or our treasurey of Beatrix Potter.

Pooh!

Asrat love Pooh, too! I inherited my grandparents copy that they read to my dad and his siblings, and we read a chapter almost every night.

I did have to correct Asrat at first--he thought it was funny to hear of a bear named "poop". Whoops!
