Year in Review
The first week of June last year, I started writing down a few things that we were doing. Partly it was because I feared my record-keeping skills were so sketchy that I should start practicing right away. Partly it was because I was curious how well reading through the stories of the Bible would fit into one year.
Anyway, I somehow managed to keep it up through moving, sickness, and general chaos. Sometimes I lumped in a couple of weeks at once, but still there's a note at least once a month of how far along we had come in the Bible, what other books and activities we had done, what songs we had sung.
It may seem a superfluity with children not yet two and three, but it's a wonderful thing to be able to look back and realize that we have done something this year besides change stinky pants and wipe up puddles. We did make it all the way to Revelation. We said many passages of Scripture over and over until they were familiar. We read many, many books and poems, and the books we read grew longer and more complex. We went to parks and museums and libraries. They picked up colors and shapes and letters and numbers--mostly on their own--and grew taller and stronger and more coordinated.
Plus, now I have a reference to look back on and find books that D1 enjoyed a year ago and thus D2 might enjoy now, or our favorite seasonal books from the library. I have somewhere to check what memory work we've already studied and how long ago it was.
This week we start over with Genesis. I might try keeping a short record week by week on this blog this year--that way it will already be date-sorted for me and the blog will be updated a little more often. |

I understand _exactly_ where you're coming from... I'm doing the same myself for ds3:-) I am using my blog to record both plans and actualities, so I can see what we do—and so I can get into the habit of recording before I have to.
