Casa Luce Homeschool

Who Are We?

Welcome to our homeschool blog!

We started homeschooling in 2003 when we lived in Italy and named our school Casa Luce Homeschool  which is Italian for Light House (or House Light if you want to be LITERAL).   Our schooling has taken many turns and we have used MANY different curriculums (or should that be curriculi???).

We have four children, the oldest two attended the DoDEA school in Naples for the first 1-2 years of their schooling.  After the second year of dealing with the school and them not dealing with our concerns we pulled the children out and began homeschooling with Alpha Omega Life Pacs.  We abandoned them fairly quickly as the children were never learning the same thing at the same time.

Currently the older children use Switched on Schoolhouse for the "backbone" of their schooling.  I can't say enough good things about this program!  During times where I was ill the children still "kept up with school" and you can take it anywhere (much to the children's chagrin) without having to lug a ton of books.  There are those who write it off as "edutainment" but for us it has been a great program, especially with my oldest son having Asperger's Syndrome.  But don't think our homeschool is just on the computer!

We are very eclectic and are shifting our focus toward Charlotte Mason and Ambelside Online.   We are changing slowly  to Math-U-See and adding REAL life experiences to our homeschool days.

This year I am excited to begin PRE-SCHOOL with our 4 year old son!  He is excited as well!  I have decided to write my own curriculum but if you would like a great FREE curriculum that's all planned out already visit Brightly Beaming Praparatory Curriculum.

My personal blog is NewCr8ion you can visit me there for non-school related stuff.

Our two oldest children have blogs as well casaluceprincess and casalucetomazo, they don't blog much but I am working on changing that.  They attended a Writer's Funshop last fall and I am hoping I can get them to share more as they progress.

We currently live in Virginia and LOVE to explore all the awesome historical places around the state.

I am re-doing this blog and moving things in from my other blogs.  I am adding loads of daily devotions from Alpha Omega's Daily Focus and Homeschool View that have provided me much encouragement.

This fall I will be launching Our 50 Great States unit study through a blog.

I will be adding to this entry, so come by often and be sure to leave a comment to say HI!
