After our Tornado last Spring we have no trees in our yard and several areas where tree roots make it virtually impossible to plant things so this will be the new focal point of our backyard...

Select a site-a focal point in the yard. Choose a level spot in the yard without low-hanging branches.
Choose a container (you won't need to waterproof your pot if latex has been mixed into the concrete; if not, buy a sealer or freezing will gradually chip the pot).
Use a 5/8-inch drill bit, then a coarse cylindrical rasp to enlarge the drainage hole.
Select the proper pump. There are many options to choose from depending on whether you want water shooting into the air from the fountain or a gentle bubble.
Put it together. Test the pump before permanently installing it.
Place pump inside pot with the electrical cord running outside of the drainage hole, then use a silicone sealant to seal the hole.
You may want to hire an electrician to do the wiring. This will add to the cost, but you can save by digging the trench yourself and buying the electrical supplies.
Add 2 tablespoons of household bleach to the water once a week to keep the water free of algae. NOTE: If your fountain may be visited by wildlife, use an algaecide that's specially formulated to be harmless to animals instead of bleach.
