Is spelling vital in order to understanding what's been written?
Hi everyone,
For those of you that have been or are being home schooled, I'm sure we find it all the same, there has always been a great emphasis places on spelling, grammar the ever popular "capital" letter and so on, but the other day I stumbled upon a article written on the human brain and how it processes shapes and letters. It showed this theory had some merit to it... i cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg. The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid, aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mtaetr in waht oerdr the ltteres in a wrod are, the olny iproamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset c an be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it whotuit a pboerlm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Azanmig huh? yaeh and I awlyas tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt!
so there you have it! don't take me wrong, spelling is still important... but nevertheless it's not totally vital to understanding what someones writing...
