A Song To Go With My Last Post

Posted in Homeschooling

Slipping Through My Fingers - ABBA

Schoolbag in hand, she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I watch her go with a surge of that well-known sadness
And I have to sit down for a while
The feeling that I'm losing her forever
And without really entering her world
I'm glad whenever I can share her laughter
That funny little girl

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what's in her mind
Each time I think I'm close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time

Sleep in our eyes, her and me at the breakfast table
Barely awake, I let precious time go by
Then when she's gone there's that odd melancholy feeling
And a sense of guilt I can't deny
What happened to the wonderful adventures
The places I had planned for us to go
(Slipping through my fingers all the time)
Well, some of that we did but most we didn't
And why I just don't know

Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what's in her mind
Each time I think I'm close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time

Sometimes I wish that I could freeze the picture
And save it from the funny tricks of time
Slipping through my fingers

Slipping through my fingers all the time

Schoolbag in hand she leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile

This song is a great reason for homeschooling!  It reminds me that all my children have been growing and changing while I have been wasting my time doing things that don't matter.  I have them home with me because I want to be with them, because I want to share their learning with them.  I guess I needed to be reminded of that.  I don't want to have my last one leave and think, "What happened to the wonderful adventures/The places I had planned for us to go/Well, some of that we did but most we didn't/And why I just don't know."

is very touching.I just had to comment and thank you for posting this. It really gave me food for thought. i found your blog while surfing, researching homeschooling, parenthood etc. It is very inspiring what you accomplished in your life. I have 2 kids and both hubby and i work full time, due to pneumonia I had to stay home from work for 4 weeks until now and i realized how much I've been missing out on this past year due to usually long working hours and fatigue after work. I vowed to cherish every minute with the kids even more from now on. Unfortunately quitting is not an option right now.
However I really admire you and your family, I hope and pray to have at least a third child someday not too far in the future. a happy family truly is the greatest blessing. All the best from Europe.

It's so exciting to have visitors from Europe! I hope you are recovered from your illness - that's no fun! And thank you for your compliments!

I also muse about my own language studies and my attempts to make my children bilingual. Thanks for stopping by!
