Labor Day is coming! Drive Defensibly, Watch out for Drunk Drivers!

8:18 AM, Aug. 31, 2006 .. 1 comments .. Link

Labor Day is coming!  Drive Defensibly, Watch out for Drunk Drivers!

I have a plan for those convicted of drunk driving.  Here is the plan:

If convicted the person will immediately be sent to the Marine Boot Camp training center at Paris Island, SC and be assigned to a special company of hardened drill sergeants who will put them through a rigorous training course. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/02/Drill_sergeant_screams.jpg

This course would be closely monitored by an expert medical team to ensure good care. Once they get thru the boot camp, they won't want to drink anymore!

Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island -
Initial training at Parris Island ranks among the hardest military ...

After training they will be sent to a war zone, either Iraq or Afghanistan, or some other overseas location that has our military involved.  They would perform some administrative function, load trucks, cook food, and keep records.  Anyone failing to correctly perform their duties would be sent back to Marine Boot Camp for retraining.

Note: For this program to be effective it must be swift, the punishment to be carried out immediately after the sentence is handed down by a judge.  Appeals would only be heard after boot camp!

Put that on the street, when people get the word that they are headed for boot camp and to the war zone immediately on conviction, perhaps the will quit drinking and driving. At least they will be safer there than driving in the states. We killed over 16,694 in 2004 by drunk drivers.  The Iraq war has killed over 2,639 to date.

  • During 2004, 16,694 people in the U.S. died in alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes, representing 39% of all traffic-related deaths (NHTSA 2005).

Pass it on. Give it to your State Representative; write to Congress and the Senate.  Let’s get the drunks off the street!

God Bless you and yours.  Be safe this Labor Day!

    Independence Day - July 4th 2006

    9:18 AM, Jul. 5, 2006 .. 8 comments .. Link

My granddaughter Holly who has spent most of her life in Romania didn’t get to learn about the 4th of July traditional fireworks.  See her mother's article here: http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/KarenW/

I watched the Capital Fourth, The Boston Pops and part of Macy’s Fireworks.  Ours here in Decatur fizzled out before the finale because of a misfire that started a small fire. The Fire Department then shut them down.

I had a great time watching from the comfort of my home, it was hot here in Decatur, AL

It sure is great to be in a country where we can celebrate with family and friends and not be beaten, jailed or killed because they failed to comply with some rule concerning head dress or dress or men and women embracing in a public place.  Or just being identified as a Christian.

I saw a wonderful video clip of a soldier and a young lady kissing in the park during the fireworks.  Let Freedom Ring!  God Bless America!

I wanted to be very creative and say something about July 4th Independence Day

    12:34 PM, Jul. 1, 2006 .. 1 comments .. Link

I'll try that later, for today, I'll add this message I received from my Commanding Officer of the USS LaSalle LPD-3 that I received today.  I think it says a lot that our children need to know about.

Thank you Mr. Cornel Nistorescu  for a great view of freedom.  God Bless you and yours.

We rarely get a chance to see another country's editorial about the USA.

Read this excerpt from a Romanian Newspaper. The article was written by Mr. Cornel Nistorescu and published under the title "C"ntarea Americii, meaning "Ode To America") in the Romanian newspaper Evenimentulzilei

"The Daily Event" or "News of the Day".
    ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

    ~An Ode to America~

Why are Americans so united? They would not resemble one another even if you painted them all one color! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture of civilizations and religious beliefs. Still, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand put on the heart.

Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the army, and the secret services that they are only a bunch of losers. Nobody rushed to empty their bank accounts. Nobody rushed out onto the streets nearby to gape about. The Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand.

After the first moments of panic, they raised their flag over the smoking ruins, putting on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag. They placed flags on buildings and cars as if in every place and on every car a government official or the president was passing.

On every occasion, they started singing their traditional song: "God Bless America!" I watched the live broadcast and rerun after rerun for hours listening to the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman in a wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian hockey player, who gave his life fighting with the terrorists and prevented the plane from hitting a target that could have killed other hundreds or thousands of people.

How on earth were they able to respond united as one human being? Imperceptibly, with every word and musical note, the memory of some turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes. And with every phone call, millions and millions of dollars were put in a collection aimed at rewarding not a man or a family, but a spirit, which no money can buy.

What on earth can unite the Americans in such a way? Their land? Their galloping history? Their economic Power? Money? I tried for hours to find an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases with the risk of sounding commonplace I thought things over, but I reached only one conclusion... Only freedom can work such miracles.

    by Cornel Nistorescu.

Nistorescu, managing director of the daily newspaper Evenimentul Zilei — News of the Day — published his editorial Sept 24, two days after watching a celebrity telethon in New York for victims of the attacks . . .
We rarely get a chance to see another country's editorial about the USA.

    USS LaSalle LPD-3 / AGF-3 Reunion - The Korean War started June 25, 1950

    8:15 AM, Jun. 25, 2006 .. 1 comments .. Link

Well it's been a very busy month.

In addition to our "Normal" things, we went to San Antonio, TX for a reunion of my 3rd ship the USS LaSalle LPD-3 /AGF-3.  It was a great time seeing one of my Commanding Officers Captain Alan Dougall 1965-1966. My old roommate David Hawkins and his wife Ruth, and 2 men who used to work for me and others that were on the ship at the same time I was.  Sadly the ship has been retired after 41 years of naval service.  At the time of retirement, she was the 3rd oldest ship in the US Navy.  The oldest of course is the USS Constitution and the other one is the USS Kitty Hawk.

We visited the Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, TX, the Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg and some local restaurants in San Antonio.  We did not take the River Walk or go see the Alamo because of the crowds and the fact that we had already been there.  It was a great time all in all.  About 940 miles out there and a bit over a 1,000 back because we went through Houston, TX home of the USS Texas to visit an old friend, James Barker who was on my first ship the USS Fort Snelling LSD-30 and on to Louisiana to visit friends in Ruston, LA. We are now back home busily catching up, watering the dry grass and putting photos on the web of the USS LaSalle 2006 Reunion. Enjoy the photos.

    American Minute with Bill Federer

    June 25

The Korean War started June 25, 1950, when communist North Korea invaded South Korea, killing thousands.

General Douglas MacArthur was given command of the U.N. Forces and after a daring landing of troops at Inchon quickly turned the war and recaptured the city of Seoul.

Politicians limited the military from pursuing victory and the war dragged on 3 years with millions of casualties.

President Truman stated in his 1952 Christmas Message:

"Our hearts turn first of all to our brave men and women in Korea. They are fighting and suffering and even dying that we may preserve the chance of peace in the world...

Let us remember always to try to act and live in the spirit of the Prince of Peace. He bore in His heart no hate and no malice-nothing but love for all mankind. We should try as nearly as we can to follow His example...

As we pray for our men and women in Korea...let us also pray for our enemies...Through Jesus Christ the world will yet be a better and a fairer place. General MacArthur stated:

"History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline.

There has been either a spiritual awakening to overcome the moral lapse, or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster"

    What is 666 ?

    1:39 PM, Jun. 6, 2006 .. 1 comments .. Link

Quote from  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/666_(number) Quote from wikipedia.org.  Thanks for the info:

    In mathematics

666 is an abundant number. It is the sum of the squares of the first seven prime numbers.

Since 36 is both square and triangular, 666 is the sixth number of the form n2(n2 + 1) / 2 (triangular squares) and the eighth number of the form n(n + 1)(n2 + n + 2) / 8 (doubly triangular numbers.)

There is no number whose value of Euler's totient function φ is 666, making it a nontotient.

The harmonic mean of the digits of 666 is an integer: 3/(1/6 + 1/6 + 1/6) = 6, making 666 the 54th number with this property.

In base 10, 666 is a palindromic number, a repdigit and a Smith number. A prime reciprocal magic square based on 1/149 in base 10 has a magic total of 666.

    The Roman numeral representation of the number 666 (DCLXVI) uses once each the Roman numeral symbols with values under 1,000, and they occur in exact reverse order of their respective values (D = 500, C = 100, L = 50, X = 10, V = 5, I = 1).

    In other fields

    • If you assign each letter of the alphabet a number, e.g A=100 b=101 etc, Spelling Hitler will add up to 666

According to translator's comments in the New English Translation (NET) Bible[1], some maintain that recent discoveries show that 616 could possibly be the correct number of the beast, and not the commonly known 666. A few manuscripts of the Book of Revelation read 616 at chapter 13:17-18, and there are several other numerical variations. Irenaeus' mention of manuscripts having 616 is balanced by his rejection of their accuracy. The reading 616 is intriguing since the conversion of Nero Caesar's name in Latin by way of gematria, Hebrew numerology, comes out to 616. But for this very reason it is suspect because such a reading seems motivated by that very fact and somewhat contrived. It should be noted that Nero is recorded in the Talmud as having converted to Judaism before his death, and was not a major figure in the history of both the Pharisees or the Saducees. Some people say June 6, 2006 (06/06/06) and June 6, 1906 are the days of the Beast [citation needed].

    • The remake of the film The Omen, which contains references to 666 being "The Number of the Beast," was released on June 6, 2006 (06/06/06). Promotional materials for the film made reference to this fact.
    • In the United States, '666' is a brand name of cough syrup.
    • 666 is the sum of all the numbers on a typical roulette wheel. (A typical roulette wheel is numbered from 1 to 36, with one (in Europe) or two (in North America) zeroes. See the point on triangular numbers, above.)
    • 666 is the numerical value of: "ועתה יגדל-נא כח אדני" ("Ata yigdal na koach Ado-nai"; Now, let the power of my Lord grow) (Numbers 14:17). This was Moshe's (Moses) prayer invoking Divine Mercy on behalf of the Jewish People. [2]
    • 666 is a nickname for Benzene Hexachloride, a powerful insecticide and pediculicide. Its chemical formula is C6H6Cl6.
    • Similar to the Roman numeral occurrence, combining one of each of Japan's coin currency yields 666 (500, 100, 50, 10, 5, 1)
    • Apple's first computer, the Apple I, was priced at $666.66.
    • Organic molecules are based on carbon-12, with 6 Protons, 6 Neutrons and surrounded by 6 Electrons.
    • There is a theory/idea regarding the biblical meaning of 666. Man was created on the sixth day and the Supreme Being is three persons (Father, Son and Holy Ghost). Therefore the number 6 represents man and the fact that it is repeated three times implies that man is trying to be God. [original research?]
    • The full name of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan contains six letters each in his first (RONALD), middle (WILSON) and last (REAGAN) names, thus earning him the nickname "666". Additionally, when Reagan moved to California following the end of his presidency, he asked that his house number be changed from 666 to 668.
    • In Chinese, '666' sounds a lot like the words 'Things going smoothly'. It is considered one of the luckiest numbers in Chinese culture. It can be seen prominently in many shop windows across the country, and people there often pay extra to get a mobile phone number including this string of digits. "

"On June 6, 1944, a date known ever since as D-Day, a mighty armada crossed a narrow strip of sea from England to Normandy, France, and cracked the Nazi grip on western Europe.

Encyclopædia Britannica tells the story of the Normandy Invasion through the spoken recollections of veterans who fought it, the newsreels that brought the news home, and the written words of historians who have dedicated years to studying the great campaign."

Contact your Representative and Senator Today! Gas is too high!

    1:52 PM, May. 23, 2006 .. 0 comments .. Link

We are taxed enough by the higher gas prices and its going to get worse!

    http://www.ethanol.org/documents/WhyThreeDollarGas_000.pdf

Let me suggest you contact your Representative http://www.house.gov/ and Senator http://www.senate.gov/ today! I have already sent mine an e-mail.

Make it a government school project.  Every high school student should write an essay and send it to the Representatives and Senators in your district.  Send them your ideas and recommended solutions to the high cost of energy.  Do it now and have the papers on the Representatives and Senators desks when they return from their next holiday.

I have heard that one letter is worth the equivalent of 70 votes, so just think if every one of you contacted your Representative and Senator and demmanded some action on ethanol pumps and refineries.  I think we would get some action.

    http://www.whitehouse.gov

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/energy/

Tell the President you want action, not words! Let's stop sending all our money to the foreign oil companies.

We have enough land that is idle in this country to grow all the grain we need to make enough ethanol to make us independent of all foreign oil.  Brazil has already done this.

House Votes to Keep Offshore Drilling Ban
    Friday, May 19, 2006 5:14 AM EDT
    The Associated Press
    By H. JOSEF HEBERT

WASHINGTON (AP) — Despite talk of an energy crisis and the need for independence from foreign oil, Congress seems to be in no mood to open more of the country's coastal waters to energy development.

The House late Thursday rejected an attempt to end the quarter-century ban on oil and natural gas drilling that has been in effect for 85 percent of the country's coastal waters from Alaska to New England despite arguments that new supplies are needed to lower energy costs.

We need to talk to them and get them in the mood for lower fuel costs!

I think we can make a difference.

More refineries and more ethanol would result in more jobs and help our farmers too!

    The Tongass National Forest, Alaska

    2:26 PM, May. 19, 2006 .. 0 comments .. Link

How many of us will be able to see this if we continue to send all our money overseas to the foreign oil companies?

    http://www.fs.fed.us/r10/tongass/index.shtml

In other action on the Interior bill, the House:

    — Approved a restriction on road-building in the Tongass National Forest in Alaska.

    http://www.charter.net/news/read.php?ps=1010&id=12810460&_LT=MNEW_APN1DCCL1

The Tongass National Forest, the nation's largest, covers most of Southeast Alaska, surrounding the famous Inside Passage. It offers unique chances to view eagles, bears, spawning salmon, and the breath-taking vistas of "wild" Alaska. You can take a sled-dog ride on a glacier, hike boardwalk trails, fish in streams or ocean, or just relax at a remote cabin.

How many of you will be able to purchase enough $3.50 gas to go there?

Contact your Representative http://www.house.gov/ and Senator http://www.senate.gov/ today!

I believe we can manage our environment and drill for oil and gas.  If we don't do something soon the only folks that can see this will be those Representatives and Senators who have the money.

God bless you and yours as you strive to educate your family.

Dear [recipient name was inserted here],

Gas prices are passing $3 a gallon and climbing, oil companies are making
record profits.  Only about 170,000 gas stations in the U.S., only 650
sell E85. Why is that?  We need more ethanol refineries and more pumps.
It seems that it would be a very easy thing to add a tank and a pump at
existing stations.  Perhaps you can do something to provide an incentive
    for more pumps.

Also, we need to quit sending all our money to foreign oil companies.  We
need more refineries and more drilling.  I am very displeased with this
    article.

May 12, 1502, Columbus had just begun his last voyage

    9:28 AM, May. 12, 2006 .. 1 comments .. Link

    American Minute with Bill Federer

    May 12

May 12, 1502, Columbus had just begun his last voyage. Seven months later, he wrote:

"The tempest arose and wearied me so that I knew not where to turn, my old wound opened up, and for 9 days I was lost without hope of life; eyes never beheld the sea so angry and covered with foam.

The wind not only prevented our progress, but offered no opportunity to run behind any headland for shelter; hence we were forced to keep out in this bloody ocean, seething like a pot on a hot fire.

The people were so worn out that they longed for death."

His son, Ferdinand, wrote on December 13 a waterspout passed between the ships; "the which had they not dissolved by reciting the Gospel according to St. John, it would have swamped whatever it struck...for it draws water up to the clouds in a column thicker than a waterbutt, twisting it about like a whirlwind."

Columbus' biographer, Samuel Eliot Morrison described:

"It was the Admiral who exorcised the waterspout. From his Bible he read of that famous tempest off Capernaum, concluding, 'Fear not, it is I!

Then clasping the Bible in his left hand, with drawn sword he traced a cross in the sky and a circle around his whole fleet."
