USS LaSalle LPD-3 / AGF-3 Reunion - The Korean War started June 25, 1950

Well it's been a very busy month.

In addition to our "Normal" things, we went to San Antonio, TX for a reunion of my 3rd ship the USS LaSalle LPD-3 /AGF-3.  It was a great time seeing one of my Commanding Officers Captain Alan Dougall 1965-1966. My old roommate David Hawkins and his wife Ruth, and 2 men who used to work for me and others that were on the ship at the same time I was.  Sadly the ship has been retired after 41 years of naval service.  At the time of retirement, she was the 3rd oldest ship in the US Navy.  The oldest of course is the USS Constitution and the other one is the USS Kitty Hawk.

We visited the Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg, TX, the Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg and some local restaurants in San Antonio.  We did not take the River Walk or go see the Alamo because of the crowds and the fact that we had already been there.  It was a great time all in all.  About 940 miles out there and a bit over a 1,000 back because we went through Houston, TX home of the USS Texas to visit an old friend, James Barker who was on my first ship the USS Fort Snelling LSD-30 and on to Louisiana to visit friends in Ruston, LA. We are now back home busily catching up, watering the dry grass and putting photos on the web of the USS LaSalle 2006 Reunion. Enjoy the photos.

June 25

The Korean War started June 25, 1950, when communist North Korea invaded South Korea, killing thousands.

General Douglas MacArthur was given command of the U.N. Forces and after a daring landing of troops at Inchon quickly turned the war and recaptured the city of Seoul.

Politicians limited the military from pursuing victory and the war dragged on 3 years with millions of casualties.

President Truman stated in his 1952 Christmas Message:

"Our hearts turn first of all to our brave men and women in Korea. They are fighting and suffering and even dying that we may preserve the chance of peace in the world...

Let us remember always to try to act and live in the spirit of the Prince of Peace. He bore in His heart no hate and no malice-nothing but love for all mankind. We should try as nearly as we can to follow His example...

As we pray for our men and women in Korea...let us also pray for our enemies...Through Jesus Christ the world will yet be a better and a fairer place. General MacArthur stated:

"History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline.

There has been either a spiritual awakening to overcome the moral lapse, or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster"
