Happy Thanksgiving

11:01 AM, Nov. 24, 2005 .. Posted in Thanksgiving .. 1 comments .. Link

We are so very blessed; it’s difficult for me to focus on it all.  Just imagine a warm home, children, and grandchildren and now great grandchild, good food, warm clothes, and a loving caring wife.  What else could a man want the day after his 69th birthday?  I am so thankful for the many blessings God has provided me and my family.

Remember to pray for our service men and women, send them an e-mail or a card.  If you need a card may I suggest an “In Recognition” card honoring them for their service?  It’s real easy to do.  Just click this link and select a card.  Enter your information and The Gideons will do the rest.

Do you know the story of the 5 grains of corn for the first course of the Thanksgiving meal? See:

What do you know about the traditions of Thanksgiving?

Here are the details of the story: http://wilstar.com/holidays/thankstr.htm

Today we will have our Thanksgiving dinner with our oldest son David, pastor of Crosspoint Church, his wife Dana, their daughters Lara and Jordan and our great granddaughter Kristyn.  Ms Dixie is fixing our favorite roast beef with potatoes, carrots, onions and gravy.  Also there will be Dixie’s special cranberry salad, pumpkin pie, and banana pudding.  In case you are wondering, turkey is not our favorite meal, so we are giving the bird a pardon this year.

The names of the turkeys pardoned this year were Liberty and Freedom.  Does anyone know the names of those pardoned last year?

When I was young my grandfather Athel and grandmother Sara would visit us for Thanksgiving.  My grandfather was a man of few words, and just as soon as he finished his meal he would say, “Sara Tom, I’ve ate! Let’s go! He would back away from the table and prepare to leave. He was ready to go back home and off he would go.

Today many of my family will gather in Kentucky at the home of my Brother John’s daughter Debbie for a traditional Thanksgiving meal. I managed to attend last year, but scheduling would not permit it this year.  Wishing a very Happy Thanksgiving to all the family in Kentucky; John & Easter, Marvin & Karen; Barbara & Ervin; and Reba & Larry.  My other sister Sandra will celebrate Thanksgiving with here husband Edgar in Sebring, Florida.

What a wonderful day!  We went over to Dave and Dana's for Thanksgiving dinner.  Dana did a wonderful job preparing the vegetables potato salad deviled eggs and setting the beautiful table.  Dixie prepared the roast beef, Lara made the cream pie topped with cherries.  As usual I ate too much, so I'll have to walk an extra mile tomorrow. Jordan and I enjoyed playing with Kristyn and later Dave and I along with those who stayed awake, watched the movie Christmas with the Kranks while Kristyn tried to kiss the puppy. Dixie of course got to kiss baby Kristyn. It was a great day. Thanks Dana, Dixie, Lara and Jordan for all the good food.

Tomorrow we plan to drive to Kentucky to visit Dixie's sister and help celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. We will keep an eye on the weather, I hear it's going to be cold!  Brrr!

Good night, God Bless you all.

Andy
