Recently we went on vacation. We had planned a vacation last year, although the final destination and plans changed, we had a great time. We needed a closer more affordable vacation this year. Well, we are blessed to be about 4 hours from the BEAUTIFUL Gulf coast. In this family you do not have to twist our arms to go to the beach, it is our fav place. We found a great place to stay that was affordable and had a kitchen. I was able to cook most of our meals. We did eat out a few times, which was a great treat. Our hotel was only minutes from the sand and had a great pool. This vacation was for pure relaxation, no more, no less.
Here is a slide of our time there:
Each time we go on vacation, I try to plan an educational fieldtrip. This year my oldest is doing Apologia Zoology 2: The Swimming creatures. I am also teaching my preschoolers about marine life. We found the perfect place for our fieldtrip.
Gulfarium in Fort Walton, FL
We love all the special moments and memories made on family vacations.
Be blessed,
Chasity

Well my oldest participates in a homeschool fair every year. (She is the only one old enough to join in yet) It is a science, history, art, needle and thread fair all rolled up in one. We are hoping to enter 3 projects this year. Her projects will be a science: life cycle of the butterfly, photography, and sewing a quilt. And, I hope to document the things on here.
This is my oldest, my third grader: (she had to get glasses the week of Christmas, so I wanted to include a pic of her new look ;0)
Today we received the test subject for our science project.....

There was so much excitement over this box in my house today. Inside the above box was......

Another box, ha
Inside the above box was the real treasure.....

6 live catepillars.
I have ALWAYS wanted to do this. We are doing Apologia Zoology 1: Flying Creatures this school year. Perfect timing!!! We are going to take pics everyday and document the life cycle for our project. I will post often on these little babies...so you can share with your kids. Learning via blogs.....ahhhh....a great idea, huh?
We found lots of info on this site: http://www.thebutterflysite.com/ Here is their activity page. We bought our catepillars from this site. (All the sites are linked by the first) Also here is a site for life cycle info as well.
Happy learning.
Be blessed,
Chasity

~~~We just finished up a great bible study with my oldest dd. It was written in an adventure style....you are a detective searching out God's words for clues to cases. She enjoyed the book very much. We liked the study so much, we are doing another one by the same authors.
~~~This book comes from a series called Discover 4 Yourself, written by Kay Arthur and Janna Arndt. I checked Kay Arthur site, and if I am correct there are 17 books in this series so far. They are written indepentantly, so you would not have to do all of them. You could pick and choose the subjects that are perfect for your family.
We just finished this one: (We purchased it here.)

Here is the product description from CBD:
The Discover 4 Yourself Inductive Bible Studies for Kids teach children how to find out for themselves what the Bible is all about, and gives them fun and exciting ways to do it! In order to solve The Mystery of How to Study the Bible students must go through inductive detective training. Max, Molly, and their beagle Sam come along to help them examine the scene (context), interpret clues (who, what, when, where, why, & how), unscramble secret messages (memory verses), and use their walkie-talkies (prayer). Many important interpretive skills are covered, even using a concordance and expository dictionary. Recommended for ages 9 to 12.
~~~The age range on Kay Arthur's site sates 7-12 or 8-12, depending on the book. My dd is 8, and she was able to understand very well. The books were written so they could do the study alone. However, since my dd is at the youngest of the age range, we did it together. I can honestly say, I learned a lot as well.
We started a new one this Monday: (You can find it here.)
Product description from CBD:
As members in God's Special Forces, kids train to be communication experts. Using the illustration of the chain of command, Kay Arthur and Janna Ardnt creatively explain the concept of prayer. As kids solve puzzles, complete mazes, and crack codes, they'll uncover the principles of making contact with "home base," developing clear reception, and staying continually in touch with their Commander in Chief, their Father in heaven. The Lord's Prayer is the foundation of this special basic training, and it's not long before the trainees discover the awesome truth that God wants to talk to them as much as they want to talk to Him!
~~~This book uses a different theme. You are in the military and are learning to be communication experts.
Be blessed,
Chasity
