Let's Do "Science"...again

Posted in Science
For those of you who know me in real life, know about the "science" issues. But in my defense, I can deal with almost anything science except SNAKES or ferrets, okay, mice and rats too!!  Here are some links so you can understand "science" in our house. Here's one about the turtle and here's the snake -- if you want to just laugh at me, ur with me, then you must read about the snake.  My DH and I have sorta of an unspoken agreement when it comes to science. I'll deal with the insects, plants, etc. that the boys find outside, while he will teach about spaceships, stars, planets and dinosaurs. So far it's worked out rather well in our little homeschool.

Now for today's science lesson. The gentleman that comes to do our lawn used the blower and apparently blew a grasshopper into a "writing spiders" web. When I actually looked at this spider, she is HUGE. I don't know that she really needed that grasshopper. Ya know what I mean?? LOL

And here we had to call on our "Science Professor" -- aka Mama Jean. We found these caterpillars in a huge azalea bush. Hency Mama Jean said they are Azalea Moth Caterpillars. The guy that does our yard is also a homeschool dad so he understands "doing science when you can'. He graciously cut two of the branches so I could bring two little guys/gals inside to watch. Hopefully they won't meet their demise while in our care. LOL

Caleb so desperately wants a butterfly to land on his finger. And he gets so very frustrated when they won't. This is a butterfly that was having fun entertaining us. Aren't God's creations beautiful?

Is that the Geico Gecko? Nope, that is just a little fella who has decided that he wants to be part of the family. However, I don't remember inviting him inside. I like them when they are OUTSIDE. Apparently he came in a few weeks ago -- okay, go ahead and gasp, I did. I saw him one morning on this same blind but lower. I knew it would be useless to attempt to catch him, but I did try. He ended up in the closet that is in our office where I also keep our "quiet-time activity" and curriculum cabinets. So I am rather cautious now when I open either cabinet. On Sunday before we left for a drive around town, I noticed our little Geice Gecko friend just chillin'. If he thinks we are going to be changing auto insurance just because he's here....he needs to think again. LOL  Doesn't he just look too cute??? Unfortunately, I can't tell you where he is right at this minute. I haven't seen him since he was on the blind. I know that Dixie Grits, aka the dog, hasn't eaten him as she hasn't gotten sick. But I also don't think she could catch him - hence our problem. I am just a little afraid -- okay down right scared at times, that I am going to have an unwelcomed visitor in my bedroom and bed. Ah the joys of God's creations....but they need to stay outside. LOL

And this is a moth, I assume, that decided to hang out by our back door. He was there one morning when I left for work. He was still there the next morning too. I actually wasn't sure he was alive, but then he left us. I am not sure that I've ever seen one that big before.

Do any of us really "need" that last grasshopper??? Great pictures! I can't wait to see the caterpillar change. I don't know what one of those moths look like! As for the anole, I would have had Brit come get him for you. Right now my girl and her brothers are running around the back yard looking for them!!!

You can always spot a boy mama by their interest in "critters". Your pictures were awesome! I know the boys are loving science right now...oh the lengths we'll go to in order to teach! Ha!
