• Nov. 10, 2009 - Praise God for his healing ways!!!

I have been off the computer some due to several family emergancies-but had to catch you up with this story to remind us all how good and faithfl God continues to be!!

My grandfather was in the hospital for what appeared to be a heart attack and very low blood pressure. Prayer went out from my church, family, and work, and he was released 2 days later feeling great and they can't figure out what happened!! In addition, I was desperately trying to get ahold of my father in Kuwait and haven't heard from him in 2 weeks-- and he got the email I sent about this that night. It is amazing what God can do when we cry out to him and let him have control! Glory be to God!

Blessings!!

• Nov. 10, 2009 - Prunes in chocolate chip cookies???

Ok, the older I get the healthier I want my family. I currently have a husband who will eat no fruits and veggies except potatoes--does that even count?=] I have resorted to hiding things in food now-- and the latest is flax, whole wheat, wheat germ, and prunes in the cookies. They do have a darker color, but are very moist and chewy. I used baby food prunes and stir them right in. The kids can't tell the difference, although dad claims he can. I also have put applesauce, flax, and wheat germ in our pancakes-- the kids cover them in syrup anyways!! Any ideas you can share with me on how to hide the healthy stuff in food? I would love to hear your ideas!!!

Hugs!

• Nov. 9, 2009 - Over organization for Christmas cards

If any of you read my organization piece in the free ebook that went out last month by TOS, you know how OCD I am. I am trying to let the tiny things go, though.

But--today I prepared Christmas cards. I buy them on clearance the year before, and put them in a card box. Then I prepare the cards in a few days time.

Day 1-address the envelope, put stamps on them, sign the card, and put it in the envelope open side up so I can easily slip things in. Then I put a l for letter and a p for picture on the envelope corner. So, if that person will get a picture or a letter from me, I easily know who. I keep count of how many there are of each so when I print I will be ready.

Day 2-write the letter draft about things that have been going on with us as a family and then as individuals.

Day3-take pics. After hours of waiting at the photo studio over the years we've given up on that route. We take a day when its sunny and the digital camera with timer and go outside and take a family pic. We also take them in "normal clothes", no fanciness here. Then, download and print.

Day 4-clean up the letter and print. Day 5-insert letters and pics. Seal. Send. I normally send these out the day after thanksgiving. If I get a card from someone that I didn't send one to already or forgot, I still have a chance since I send them out so early, but I don't do it for all that I recieve.

I also update my address book when I recieved any cards. Hope this helps your Christmas card day!!

• Nov. 9, 2009 - Free trip to the Zoo

Today we went with a friend to the NC Zoo in Asheboro. I heard through the grapevine that homeschoolers could go for free, but couldn't find the information on the website. I called, and yes, we do! I had to preregister 2 weeks in advance, they looked up our homeschool, and I printed a confirmation of registration--and that was it!

Check out your local zoo to see if they offer this--a penny saved!

BTW, the kids had a blast! There was a cute monkly who had a little baby, and she kept it very near her by holding its tail. The baby was struggling to get away, but she kept hold! Isn't that the very thing that we do to our kids--and God does to us!

Hugs!!!

• Oct. 31, 2009 - Healing has begun

This week was an especially difficult week for our family.

Death is all around us, which reminds me how precious life really is.

When I was told of my moms aunt dying, I was a simply a support for mom. When my husbands friend died, I had to hold it together for him. Then my dad's dog, who we have been watching for a year now, passed away. I had to be the support for my kids who were heartbroken.

I am the support for others, but who is my support? My heavenly Father. I know without Him I wouldn't be able to do all I have done for everyone else. He has given me the strength and counsel to get them though these times.

Thank you Father!

• Oct. 28, 2009 - Another Homeschool Freebie Website

I researched some new freebie sites...here's what I found so far:

I have used this site many times, they have over 1,500 federally supported resources:

www.free.ed.gov

This site has a free gradebook, mastery charts, assessments, and other management tools. Some are free, or you can upgrade for $6.00.

http://www.brainhoney.com/

I haven't got to check this one yet, but this is a guide for week long ideas for Geography Awareness Week:

www.mywonderfulworld.org

Of course when the kids were young, they loved this site. They have updated it:

Oh--and this one--customized coloring pages from Crayola:
