A skunk stinks better
Riding in the van home this evening with my children we smelled a skunk. Oh how they held their noses and went on about the smell. Living in Arkansas I can take the smell of a skunk any day compared to the smell of chicken houses.
However, never one to miss an opportunity to converse with my children using sarcasm (as learned by my own mom), I saw a chance to nip the next pet idea in the bud by saying, "Maybe we should get a skunk as our next pet."
"Oh, no. I'll never want a skunk. They smell awful," Emeline said in a nasal, but perfectly serious voice from the pinched nose.
"Well, I'm pretty sure a field mouse will stink too." I am still trying to discourage her from wanting a field mouse for her birthday.
"But a skunk stinks better than a field mouse," she so wisely reported.
She is certainly making this field mouse out to be "pet of the year." Some of you commenters aren't helping my case either!

I love when they start to use adjectives and adverbs and inevitably use many of them wrong... it may be grammatically incorrect, but it's so cute!
Have a good one,

I LOVE it!!!! Both her response and your attempts to avert a new pet.....LOL
Right now I have a dog that I seriously want to remove from my home, but my girls just think I am evil for even thinking such a thought....lol
We did have hamsters at one time and guinea pigs even and given the choice between either of them and the dog, the hamsters and guinea pigs would win out....lol
Hang in there!

I really gave up the pet thing years ago. I just ended up taking care of them, and it wasn't a pretty sight. LOL
My daugher came home from work tonight just bawling, and I thought she had been in accident.
Come to find out, she had seen a car in front of her run over a stray cat, and she tried to help it. It traumatized her so bad. She has a soft heart, and I told her so.
I reminded her that she is much like me, and laughed. I told her that when I saw a raccoon run over by a car, and I bawled like a baby, that I wrote a poem about it. She said "that won't work with me", but I think she will find something that will.
Hubby and son went and moved the corpse of the poor critter, and called the animal control to dispose of the body. So sad.
I hope your mouse stays inside, and doesn't run across the road. LOL
Good luck!

Can you love on a rat? Dogs need lovin'. Love is good.
Rats need a pack. e.g. pack a rat. Bye, bye.
Be blessed,
Miss Meg

Poor skunks, they sure do get the stinky end of the stick, don't they? I mean, think of all the famous skunks...Pepe LePeux, for instance.

Well...you better watch out or they'll say Sure mom, a skunk is a great idea! After all, you know best!"
It's a good thing mine haven't asked for any pets...so far so good...
Love,
Marsha
