Life with a newborn!

go to bed and sleep while baby sleeps
9:15 p.m. nurse baby
11:30p.m. nurse baby
12:45 a.m. nurse baby
1:30 nurse baby and change her
3:00 nurse baby
       clean up baby puke
4:30 nurse baby and burp REALLY well this time
walk baby around and put back to sleep
6:00 nurse and change baby
7:30 get up
       make a phone call
8:00 nurse, change and dress baby
wake up girls and make them get dressed
        get myself dressed
8:30 go pay a bill
9:30 get home
nurse baby and put to sleep in her bed (she actually stayed there for about 45 minutes!!)
do some very neglected things around house
10:30 change and nurse baby
hold and admire her very awake and interested eyes
hold while I try to get some reading done
12:30 nurse and change baby
1:00 put baby in bed long enough to finally eat something
2:00 nurse and take a nap with baby while I have the other girls bribed to straighten up the rest of the house

Well, that is about the extent of my days right now. I know this won't last long, but I wish I was able to put her down occasionally and get some other stuff accomplished. I had planned to start back to school after our new baby break this week, but Monday was the only day that Locksley did any school work. I will try again tomorrow. How do you get anything done with a new baby? I have a sling, but I can't really do much house cleaning or cooking with her in it. I can't pull clothes out of the washer, do dishes or bend to pick things up and I can't cook with her in it. I refuse to let a two week old "cry it out", so what do you do? She wants to nurse constantly! I know that she will be past this stage before I know it, but days like today are really frustrating.

I know you will not appreciate this at all, but I am totally LOL over here. Does this sound familiar..."I can't wait to hold my baby in my arms and smell her sweet baby smell." Still giggling. I told you that you wouldn't appreciate my comment. Surely I tried to warn you that they're much easier when they're on the INSIDE!!

You know I'm just teasing....and I probably shouldn't tease a sleep deprived new mom. In no time at all, Esther is going to be sleeping regularly and school will be getting done, housework will be getting done...and you'll be ready to try for that boy! ;-) In the meantime, I'll be praying for rest and peace for you, my friend. (((Hugs)))

I completely understand! But, you're right - it won't last too long. And, I agree, letting a tiny little one 'cry it out' isn't for us either. So, I still do most everything with Harrison on my lap; only now he's big enough to laugh and smile while we do our seatwork :) I'll keep you in my prayers.

Btw, I have some diaper covers I bought on ebay before I decided I wasn't going to use cloth diapers. Could you use them?

May. 3, 2006 - I am a newbie and random-blogged here, and found you...

just had to comment. First of all, congratulations! Esther sounds like she is just beautiful, and I am sure your girls are loving having a baby sister!

Secondly, I can relate to the newborn-who-wants-to-nurse-all-the-time thing... all three of mine have been like that, but especially my first! I did find the sling to be helpful, especially after I found one that was tight enough and a good style to hold the baby close in so I COULD bend down, etc. I also found I had to let a LOT go in terms of the house, which was very tough to swallow with the "nesting" feeling of wanting everything to be perfect!

I don't know if getting a better style/fit sling or pouch would help you at all, but I did my research on www.thebabywearer.com and it helped me a lot. (The kind I got was hotsling and I love it, but I have also heard great things about pea in a pod pouch (I think that's the name of it??). Most of them are made by moms who have gone through it themselves.

I hope that might have been helpful to you, and most of all I will pray right now that you will get some rest and that God will just work in great ways to help everything get done that is a must, and help you and your family to be ok with what does not. I pray that He will bless you and keep you during this time, and that He will help you to cherish it even though it is tiring, because you are right, it goes way too fast.

I will put you on my friends list and check back to see how you are doing soon!

Blessings,
Jen
