Mar. 22, 2006 - Stay-at-Home Moms are a Drain on Society
Can you believe this woman? This law professor (and, having gone to law school myself, many professors are a piece of work) says professional women who choose to stay home with their children are a drain on society. Look at this:

Unbelievable!
Moms, we are at the front line in the culture war. Thank God we have an army of fellow believers!

Well, if I am a drain then my Saviour is the water flowing through it.

"But on the other hand, my daughter says to me, 'Mommy, when I grow up, I'm gonna get a job at your magazine, and I'm gonna sit at the same desk as you and we're gonna be on the same magazine together until we die,'" Skolnick said. "And that makes me kind of happy."
This child is probably saying this because she never SEES her mother and has realized that the only way she could see her is to work with her! That's sad!

According to this woman's very own "classical standard", I am living a very good life! I choose to "use [my] capacities for speech and reason in a prudent way". By choosing to stay home I definately fulfill "the liberal requirement of having enough autonomy to direct one's own life". And by training my children to be God-honoring, people-protecting and resource-respecting individuals I more than meet "the utilitarian test of doing more good than harm in the world". Can she say the same? It would be interesting to see what kind of product she turns out of her classroom and home.
And since I paid for my education myself, in what way, exactly, am I a drain on society?
In the immortal words of Mrs. Tabitha Twitchit, "I am affronted!"

It just baffles the mind that these so called professionals are being so petty. They believe (or rather have convinced themselves) that they are doing what is best for their children... and by the sounds of this outspoken woman, the lives of future children! How can she judge what is best for each person? She tells her students they would be wrong to stay home... how can following God's word be wrong? That is what really baffles me the most!
