Jan. 19, 2007 - Do you do dating?
I'm interested in an informal survey. It seems people from across the dating spectrum homeschool. Some don't allow dating until they are ready for formal courtship. Some allow dating with friends. Some allow dating at 16 or 18. (I'm Irish and if I had my way, they would wait until 30!)
We attended a lovely wedding last weekend of two homeschooled kids. it was so lovely and meaningful. They each waited for the right person. It really touched my heart!
So, where do you stand on this?

I'm not sure yet where we stand on this.
An aside: it seems to me there are a lot of different definitions of courtship. The traditional definition seems to be "no 'romantic' relationships until one is ready for marriage." But I know a few homeschoolers who say they are "courting" at ages 16 & 17, hardly an age that is emotionally and fiscally ready for marriage. In my mind, they are really dating, but just calling it courtship because that's the politically correct thing to do in homeschool circles.

Courtship!
My 19 year old daughter has never been involved in the dating scene.
She has prayed and waited for the one God has for her.
She just started courting him.
He came to her father to get permission almost three weeks ago.
It is awesome to follow God's plan.
It is so horrible to see the world's way.
Courtship is the way!

When my son was 11 years old (he's now 17), we watched a movie called "Pamela's Prayer". He loved it! After watching the movie, he turned to me and said that he wanted to do what Pamela did. He wants to wait to kiss his only girlfriend, for the first time, at his wedding! My past is so opposite of his and hearing his decision made me thrilled and very thankful to the Lord!! We talked about many things after that concerning the movie, courtship vs. dating, waiting for God's timing, etc.
When he was 12 yrs old, my husband and I bought him a purity ring which he still wears. Well, I had to buy him a bigger size eventually but he still wears it. It's very important to him and I never pressured him but I do encourage him about the choice he made at age 11. What a wonderful and precious gift you can give to your future spouse . . . your pure self!
My two youngest, 13 and 8, strongly feel the same way.
I am all for courship! Yet some have a funny idea of what courship is really all about.
