Holocaust Remembrance Day

The UN's conference on racism started today. Labeled "Durban II", it is really just an excuse for the most repressive regimes in the world to get together to bash Israel. During Durban I, held just days before the Sept 11 terrorist attacks, Israel was disproportionately singled out for censure by Islamic regimes, while the human rights violations that take place in their own countries every day were never even mentioned.

As a case in point as just how unserious this UN conference is, one of the keynote speakers is Ahmadinejad, the madman of Iran. During his speech today, while he again denied the Holocaust and called for the elimination of Israel, 23 delegates walked out. Twenty-three countries had conviction and acted upon it! It should have been a lot more. The Holocaust was not that long ago.

There is a reason the Israel haters at the UN scheduled this conference to open this week. Tonight begins Holocaust Remembrance Day in Israel, a serious and somber national holiday. The US boycotted this conference "with regret." There was uncertainty up to the last minute whether Hilary Clinton would give the green light to attend or not. But in the end, our government did the right thing, and refused to participate in the kangaroo court conference whose only aim is not to address racism, but to spew anti-Semitism (ironic, isn't it?).
