Poetry of worship

posted Saturday, July 29, 2006 :: 2:58 PM

Every day I come to You
And lift my voice to honor You
And worship You

Every hour of every day
I will bow my heart to pray
And worship You

For You are the most holy
Almighty
Beloved
The ever- living God
Youre the Savior of the world

For You are the most holy
Almighty
Beloved
The ever- living God
The living God

Almighty
Beloved
The Savior of the world

So holy
Most holy
The ever- living God

The poetry of thirsting for the living water

posted Thursday, April 6, 2006 :: 5:52 AM

Lord, sometimes I give all I have left to give
Sometimes I run dry so that others might live
Sometimes I think You have left me alone
Sometimes I wish You would just call me home

At times I grow tired, yet I want to obey
Sometimes I cant hear all Youre trying to say
But I'll go where You lead -- do what You say to do
And when I run dry, I will cry out to You

O Lord I need a shoulder to cry on
A heart to share the pain
A hand to hold -- a friend to rely on
A cool refreshing rain

My God to bear this cross that I die on
To cleanse what cant remain
My Fathers precious shoulder to lie on
A love that can sustain an endless rain

I would have given up quite a long time ago
If not for the grace and the love You have shown
For yesterdays gone -- tomorrow I cannot know
But I will live for today in the light that You show

Lord sing Your song, in the night lead me through
The morning will come bringing joy like the dew
Your voice, like the dawn, is a warm welcome view
Making life worth this darkness, for it drives me to You

O Lord I need a shoulder to cry on
A heart to share the pain
A hand to hold -- a friend to rely on
A cool refreshing rain

My God to bear this cross that I die on
To cleanse what cant remain
My Fathers precious shoulder to lie on
A love that can sustain an endless rain

I will press on toward the goal
For the prize
Of my lifes highest calling --
My Lord Jesus Christ

And I will fix my eyes on You
Draw close to Your side
For in the desert Youre water
In the darkness Youre light

O Lord I need a shoulder to cry on
A heart to share the pain
A hand to hold -- a friend to rely on
A cool refreshing rain

My God to bear this cross that I die on
To cleanse what cant remain
My Fathers precious shoulder to lie on
A love that can sustain an endless rain

Grace through the night

posted Monday, April 3, 2006 :: 9:18 AM

You are strength when Im weary
You are hope when visions die
You are there just to hold me
When I dont understand why

When the hurt grows so painful
That the darkness seems to cover the light
When the pain seems unending
You are grace through the night

You are grace through the night
When I grow tired of running the race
And Im too weak to fight
You are faithful to hold me
When I just want to die
You are grace through the night

When the clouds cover heaven
And I cannot see the stars in the sky
Sometimes I cant help but feeling
Like I will not live to see morning light

But You always come singing
Walk by faith, precious child, not by sight!
Hope in Me and just keep clinging
To My grace theough the night.

You are grace through the night
When I grow tired of running the race
And Im too weak to fight
You are faithful to hold me
When I just want to die
You are grace through the night

Something about the night
Just makes it easier to see Your face
Lord, easier to see Your precious light
Easier to see that I need Your grace

You are grace through the night
When I cant see or dont understand
All the sorrows of life
You are joy in my sorrow
You are hope, You are light
You are grace through the night

The poetry of grace

posted Saturday, April 1, 2006 :: 5:57 AM

When the fire of life leaves you so dry
That your eyes have no tears left to cry
When heartache leaves you wondering why
Wondering how you will survive

And when youve grown too tired to run the race
Or find your strength is gone without a trace
When youve reached that lonely, desperate place
You have reached the point of grace

And I will meet you there where your striving ends
I will hold you there in My embrace
And you will find the place where true joy begins
When youve reached the point of grace

When your hopes and dreams begin to fade
Disappointment clouding all the plans youve made
Feeling lonely, broken, and afraid
It seems so long since you have seen the light of day

And when it seems like every trial you face
Just leaves you one step closer to the place
Where you fall away or reach for My embrace
Child you have reached the point of grace

And I will meet you there where your striving ends
I will hold you there in My embrace
And you will find the place where true joy begins
When youve reached the point of grace

Just let go and you will see
Just how mighty love can be
Child, your greatest strength is when youre weak
Looking up from your brokenness to Me

And I will meet you there where your striving ends
I will hold you there in My embrace
And you will find the place where true joy begins
When youve reached the point of grace

Poetry of encouragement

posted Wednesday, March 29, 2006 :: 6:33 PM

Wounded soldier on the ground
Broken; bleeding; beaten down
Feeling defeated; feeling not needed
Alone; abandoned on the battleground

Wounded soldier; faithful friend
Beaten down by those you defend
Your heart once open -- now pierced and broken
Needing help to rise again

Let Me bind up every wound
Let Me comfort every pain
Let Me carry you to a place of rest
Shelter from pouring rain

Let Me hold you -- I can be right where you are
Let Me hold you in the shelter of My heart

When youre weary from the battle
And all hope just seems so far
Just remember I am with you
Faithfully guarding your heart

While the battle rages on
I will hold you through the night
In the shadow of the cross
Ill be your champion -- fight your fight

Let Me hold you -- I can be right where you are
Let Me hold you in the shelter of My heart

Wounded soldier -- youll rise again
You can trust Me -- I always win
When you face harshness or total darkness
Im ever watching; faithful to defend

Wounded soldier; faithful one
When youve fallen, Ill help you run
With every testing Ill bring new resting
And say to you, My child, well done!

Let Me bind up every wound
Let Me comfort every pain
Let Me carry you to a place of rest
Shelter from pouring rain

Let Me hold you -- I can be right where you are
Let Me hold you in the shelter of My heart

When youre weary from the battle
And all hope just seems so far
Just remember I am with you
Faithfully guarding your heart

When you feel you cant go on
You be weak, and Ill be strong
With the power of My strongest love
From My hearts deepest song

Let Me hold you -- I can be right where you are
Let Me hold you in the shelter of My heart

A song for my children and me

posted Thursday, March 2, 2006 :: 7:10 AM

I know what you've been feeling
I've seen you hide your tears
Embarrassed by your weaknesses
Afraid to let Me near

I wish you knew how much I longed
For you to understand
That no matter what may happen, child
I'll never let go of your hand

I know you feel forsaken
By all you've known before
When you've failed their expectations
They frowned and closed the door

But even if your heart itself
Should lose the will to stand
No matter what may happen child
I'll never let go of your hand

For the life that I have given you
No one can take away
I've sealed it with My Spirit, Blood and Word
And the Everlasting Father
Has made His covenant with you
And He's stronger than this world you've seen and heard

So don't you fear to show them
All the love I have for you
And I'll be with you everywhere
In everything you do

And even if you do it wrong
And miss the joy I've planned
No matter what may happen, child
I'll never let go of your hand

The poetry of the glory of the Lord

posted Friday, January 6, 2006 :: 9:17 AM

Let these praises fall upon Your ears
That You might feel our hearts in what You hear
There are not enough songs to sing Your praise

You are glorious beyond
You are wonderful beyond
Anything we could sing to You
You are beautiful beyond
Youre a treasure thats beyond
Any our hearts have ever held

All our words and all our melodies
All fall short of glory yet unseen
Open up our eyes, reveal Your majesty

You are glorious beyond
You are wonderful beyond
Anything we could sing to You
You are beautiful beyond
Youre a treasure thats beyond
Any our hearts have ever held

I will bow before the wonder
I will bow before the mystery
I will bow before the wonder
I will bow before the mystery

You are glorious beyond
You are wonderful beyond
Anything we could sing to You
You are beautiful beyond
Youre a treasure thats beyond
Any our hearts have ever held

The poetry of waiting on the Lord

Faithful King
Faithful Friend
Faithful Love that knows no end
How I long to rest in You
Faithful and True

Faithful and True
When I need a hand to hold me
I just lift my hands to You
For Youre so Faithful and True
Lord I need Your hand to hold me
So I lift my hands to You
Faithful and True

Faithful Lord
Faithful Guide
Faithful Rock where I hide
How I long to hide in You
Faithful and True

The poetry of patient endurance

posted Wednesday, November 30, 2005 :: 9:54 AM

Be still, my soul -- the Lord is on thy side
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain
Leave to thy God to order and provide
In ev'ry change He faithful will remain
Be still, my soul -- thy best, thy heav'nly Friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

Be still, my soul -- thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake
All now mysterious shall be bright at last
Be still, my soul -- the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below.

Be still, my soul -- the hour is hast'ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored
Be still, my soul -- when change and tears are past
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

The poetry of deliverance

posted Saturday, November 19, 2005 :: 5:42 AM

Remember Daniel in the lions den
He was there for he would not bow to men
Theres no doubt or denyin
God shut up the mouth of the lion
When He heard His servant cry

The Lord is my strength
The Lord in His power is my strength
Day by day and evry hour
The Lord is my strength
The Lord in His power is my strength
Day by day and evry hour
Evry day and evry hour
Evry day and evry hour

Remember Paul and Silas in the jail
They rejoiced for they knew God would not fail
Then along about midnight
God delivered them by His great might
When He heard His children cry

The Lord is my strength
The Lord in His power is my strength
Day by day and evry hour
The Lord is my strength
The Lord in His power is my strength
Day by day and evry hour
Evry day and evry hour
Evry day and evry hour

Remember we were all dead in our sin
My sins were buried when Lord Jesus rose again
When Satan comes like a flood
Cry out to Him who shed His own blood
That we might reign with Him on high

The Lord is my strength
The Lord in His power is my strength
Day by day and evry hour
The Lord is my strength
The Lord in His power is my strength
Day by day and evry hour
Evry day and evry hour
Evry day and evry hour

The Lord is My Strength by Dennis Jernigan
On I Belong to Jesus Volume 2

The Lord sent from on high
He took me
He drew me out of many waters

He rescued me from my strong enemy
And from those who hated me
For they were too mighty for me
They confronted me in the day of my calamity
But the Lord was my support

He brought me out into a broad place
He rescued me
Because He delighted in me.

The poetry of encouragement

posted Thursday, November 10, 2005 :: 9:47 AM

I will bless the LORD at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the LORD;
The humble shall hear of it and be glad.
Oh, magnify the LORD with me,
And let us exalt His name together.

I sought the LORD, and He heard me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
They looked to Him and were radiant,
And their faces were not ashamed.
This poor man cried out, and the LORD heard him,
And saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him,
And delivers them.

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Oh, fear the LORD, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.
The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

Come, you children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Who is the man who desires life,
And loves many days, that he may see good?
Keep your tongue from evil,
And your lips from speaking deceit.
Depart from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it.

The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their cry.
The face of the LORD is against those who do evil,
To cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears,
And delivers them out of all their troubles.
The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
But the LORD delivers him out of them all.
He guards all his bones;
Not one of them is broken.
Evil shall slay the wicked,
And those who hate the righteous shall be condemned.
The LORD redeems the soul of His servants,
And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.

The poetry of shelter in a storm

posted Monday, October 17, 2005 :: 4:30 PM

When stormy weather comes against me ravaging my heart
Some storms seem so long they never cease
When stormy weather comes against me, take me where You are
In Your arms a constant state of peace

You will be my Shelter
A place where I can run
A Rock! A sure Foundation
That cannot be overcome
You will be my Refuge
A place where I can go
A Rock that will surround me
When the winds begin to blow

When the winds blow and the waves crash all around me
You are like an island in the middle of the sea
When the winds blow, stormy waves about to drown me
You will come surrounding with a refuge of peace

You will be my Fortress
A place where I can hide
A strong and mighty Warrior
Who will never leave my side
You will be my Father
My heart will be Your home
A Rock that can't be shaken
When the winds begin to blow

When everything around me seems to fall into the sea
Crushed by waves that beat incessantly
When everything Ive trusted in just falls away from me
In Your arms I find security

The poetry of perseverance

Dont lose heart faithful one
Father is watching you - theres no need to run
Dont give in, for the Victor has come
Dont lose heart

Dont lose heart, for you have a Friend
A faithful companion who is true to the end
Dont give up for your life Ill defend
Dont lose heart

Oh, this life may seem hard for a season
But I will be with you each step of the way
So let these heartaches and trials serve their reason
To help you depend on Me more each day
Dont lose heart, for I am the Way
Dont lose heart

Dont lose heart when death comes in
Life so abundantly awaits you, My friend
Lay down your life, for in losing, you win
Dont lose heart

Dont lose heart in doing My will
The way of the cross is a dark, lonely hill
But your load I'll carry, just rest and be still
Dont lose heart

Oh, this life may seem hard for a season
But I will be with you each step of the way
So let these heartaches and trials serve their reason
To help you depend on Me more each day
Dont lose heart, for I am the Way
Dont lose heart

For the day will come when I'll hold you
And put an end to every trial
So let My love now enfold you
My precious little holy child
Holding you is worth every mile
So dont lose heart

The poetry of intimacy

Some would say that You cannot be found
Some would say that You are far away
But I know Youre the God who lives in me
And I know You will always have my heart

You are good, and Your love endures forever
You are good, and Your love endures forever
You are good, and Your love endures forever
You are good

You are the only One
You are the One that I desire
You are the only One, my King

You are Good

Now turn from your sins
And turn to God
So you can be cleansed of your sins
Then wonderful times of refreshment
Will come from the presence of the Lord
And He will send Jesus
Your Messiah
To you again.

The poetry of taking comfort

posted Thursday, August 4, 2005 :: 7:15 AM

The grief of my heart

I cried out to God with my voice
To God with my voice
And He gave ear to me.

In the day of my trouble
I sought the Lord
My hand was stretched out
In the night without ceasing.

My soul refused to be comforted
I remembered God, and was troubled
I complained
And my spirit was overwhelmed
You hold my eyelids open
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

The reason of my mind

I have considered
The days of old
The years of ancient times.

I call to remembrance
My song in the night
I meditate within my heart
And my spirit makes diligent search.

Will the Lord cast off forever?
And will He be favorable no more?
Has His mercy ceased forever?
Has His promise failed forevermore?
Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies?

The praise of my lips

In my anguish
I will remember the years
Of the right hand of the Most High.

I will remember the works of the LORD
Surely I will remember Your wonders of old
I will also meditate on all Your work
And talk of Your deeds.

Your way, O God, is holy
What god is great like our God?
You are the God who works wonders
You have made known Your might among the peoples
You with Your arm redeemed Your people
The children of Jacob and Joseph.

The poetry of a yielded heart

posted Monday, August 1, 2005 :: 5:13 AM

Then Job arose
And tore his robe and shaved his head
And fell on the ground and worshiped.

And he said
Naked I came from my mothers womb
And naked shall I return
The LORD gave
And the LORD has taken away
Blessed be the name of the LORD.

Though He slay me
Yet will I trust in Him.

In all this Job did not sin
Or charge God with wrong.

The poetry of drawing near

posted Wednesday, July 27, 2005 :: 5:58 PM

My heart cries to the Lord: (Psalm 131)

My heart is not proud, O Lord
My eyes are not haughty
I do not concern myself with great matters
Or things too wonderful for me

But I have stilled and quieted my soul
like a weaned child with its mother
Like a weaned child is my soul within me

O my soul
Put your hope in the Lord
Both now and forevermore.

The Lords heart cries to me: (Isaiah 57:15)

For thus says the One
Who is high and lifted up
Who inhabits eternity
Whose name is Holy

I dwell in the high place
I dwell in the holy place
And also with him whose heart is contrite
And also with him whose spirit is lowly

My presence revives
The spirit of the lowly
My presence revives
The heart of the contrite.
