"A Rainy Day In The South"

      Here we are in the house doing a very relaxed schooling today while the sound of rain is our background music. It has been a steady soothing cool rain. Right now we are enjoying a hot cup of cocoa. We are also guilty of watching Christmas shows on TV tonight. I can't believe that they are showing them before Thanksgiving. Also we went to town last night and they have all the Christmas lights up already. What's the rush? If you have noticed all of the holidays have overlapped each other. Most of the public has a need for constant shopping because of it and have lost the original meaning for the holidays.

      I'm so glad that thru HSing we can slow things down a little for our families and search out history to find our true orgins for holidays and moumental figures in history. We know the real reasons for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and all the other holidays. While most public schools stay out of the Bible & Christianity we are free to teach the Word of God. When others breeze thru history and other subjects we enjoy staying on a subject matter or historic figure until we understand in depth to the fullest knowledge of our forefathers & our orgin. I am still amazed at how much our DC have learned & how they have such a hunger to learn even more.

      We enforce a lot of our subjects with documentary videos & audios, read-a-louds & acting out parts of stories. Our DC enjoy using their own imagination to write their own stories or short booklets. To the public we HSers seem strange because we love what we are doing. I realize we have good & bad days but overall there is a good feeling knowing we are obeying God by teaching our children ourselves!

I pray that God will "rain" down many blessings on your HSing efforts!!!

~Presentations~

     How is everyone with presentations? I have always been terrible at it. My DW Traci is great at presentations and hosting seminars. Now we humor ourselves at home with a little play acting along with our read-alouds. We have allways wondered how our DC would do in front of an audience. The field trip group that we are joined with now gave us this opportunity. Once a month they have a oral book presentation. They do an oral report on a book they are reading or a subject matter of their choice. I am impressed with the different mediums or ways they bring out their reports.

     All the DC were a little nervous at first, but now they are doing great. I have seen poster boards, home made picture books, clip art with oral reports, and library books with oral reports. These presentations have helped the DC tremendously. They do a fantastic job with the timing and expression of their work before an audience.

     Field trips, park days, and home visitations are a great way for homeschoolers to meet and make friends. Support your local HSing groups.

So Excited!!!

     Hi everybody! I'm back online after a computer crash. I hope you are off to a good start with your HSing. We're having a good time with ours. This year we are using a lot of TV docamentries and books in our curriculum. It's amazing how much our DC have learned this way. They love it to. They are tested verbally and oraly on the books and programs. We make our own worksheets and test.

     We just went on our first field trip for the year. We went to a local farm to learn of farm life, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, etc. About what they eat and how it afects their bodies, their health, the taste of their milk. They had a garden and gave a contest to see who could find something red or orange. There were carrots, tomatoes, and other veggies. Then they got to keep what they found. It was fun watching the children and a great way for a lot of the HSing Moms and Dads to get together and mingle.

     Got to go! So have fun in your HSing today. Pray and don't let the devil have his way!

School All Year?

School All Year? Sure, Why Not.

     After much prayer and thinking things out we have decided to school our DC all year. You may ask, "why would you want to do that?" We have a problem starting school every year after summer break. Our DC forget so much of what we taught the previous year. Then, here we are having to spend the first couple of weeks learning some lessons all over again.

     Now, we will school all year with shorter vacation breaks here and there. This will make our HSing days less stressful with less work per day. More enjoyable with more breaks (2 vacations, several 1 and 2 day field trips, longer reading times, more books and more library time) which brings an even more relaxed school day. We already use the CM approach which is already a relaxed way to school and very effective. Our DC love it!

     My whole family loves the fact that we will have more reading and library time. We also love having more time to watch the Florida educational Network. They have so much to add to our school day with United States and world history, science, geography, reenactments, experiments, interviews with authors, inventors, successful business people, money management, and even a little math. It's all done in a fun and interesting way with children in mind!

     We love HSing so much!!! Our vacations are planned out to enhance our schooling with museums, nature walks, and historical sites. We start our day with prayer and end it with prayer. God has helped us so much that I could write a book (Hey, now that's a thought!) on the subject.

Homeschooling Rollercoaster

      Isn't HSing a lot like a rollercoaster? Some days are so wonderful. Everything is just going so good and you are so happy with your DC. They breezed right through their math, english, spelling, and enjoyed reading so much that they couldn't stop. And the best thing is there was no complaining.

      Then the next day comes and your ready for another great day. But, somehow things have changed. No one wants to cooperate, no one wants to school today. Your DC are full of rebellion today and you're confused. You're scratching your head and wondering "WHAT HAPPENED?"

      This has always been a mystery with no certain answer. When this reoccurring event happens to us we find ourselves on our knees once again. Crying out to the Lord for our children! And many times we often get the the victory for today!

"Prayer is not a preparation for work, it is the work.

Prayer is not preparation for the battle, it is the battle"

Oswald Chambers

      Here again tomorrow is another battle all starting all over again. We learn thru experience more how to direct prayer in the midst of these battles. You become skillful  with the Word of God which is you sword to fight the enemy with. He said to "study to shew thyself approved."

      The battles don't get any easier for us but, we do grow closer to God who will help and strenghten us in the midst of the battle!

      So stand your ground! Don't give up or give in to the enemy!  Victories on the way!!!

Praying for you!

Homeschool Humor

************************************

     As our DC were finishing up their math, my DW and I were having a deeply concerning discussion about our niece who attends public school. Her grade average dropped down to a "B" and her Mom was worried that it may drop even lower. We found out reason her grade average was lowering was because she would not do her reading assignments at home. she simply hated to read those boring textbooks.

     We all understand about that, right! Most HS'ers (through prayer & practice) develop a passion for reading through good literature. Her Mom called us wanting to know what to do in this situation. So we were deeply concerned and prayerfully discussing what advice we should give her.

     When we mentioned her having a "B" average my DS, who is 8yrs, suddenly spoke up and said, "B's are not too bad when there's still 24 letters left in the alphabet."

     He caught us completely by surprise and we all looked at each other and burst out in laughter. You never know what to expect when homeschooling. Now concerning HS'ing families there are times of togetherness, times of prayer, times of laughter, times of crying, prayer, times of joy, times of fear, prayer, times of courage, times of disobedience, prayer, times of obedience, times of reproof, rebuke, prayer, and times of correction.

     And always times of refreshing, encouragement, communication, times for tea, mother-daughter times, father-son times, family times, times of love, times of love, times of love, and many, many more times of never ending love for one another!

     If you want to read a book of love, then read the Bible through God's eyes. Read it from His point of view and you will see the greatest love story ever written from the beginning to the end!

     It's all about LOVE!

God's all about LOVE!

God is LOVE!

    "He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love."

   1 John 4:8

I jumped around a bit, but these were my thoughts for the day.

How Should Our house be Built?

     Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established:
     And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
     Proverbs 24:3-4

     Through wisdom we love and show love to our family, we ensure communication between one another, and we bind our love by our actions towards each other. We gather most of our wisdom through the reading, studying, and prayerfully seeking understanding of The Word of God. With His guidance and direction we can learn so much about the family that He created and established.
     Much wisdom comes from experience also. By that I mean we pay careful attention to what works, and what doesn't work, for our family to bring unity, love, joy, peace, and togetherness.
     We want our family to be happy to go places and do things together in public without being ashamed of one another. Believe me the public take notice when a loving family's around them. Your family is peculiar to them. Some admire it, some desire it, and some detest it. Don't be surprised when they may ask, "How did you accomplish this feat?" And don't be surprised when they accuse you of shielding your children from the world.
     If we are Christians, which means we are Christlike, then we must pray and practice to be like Christ. You are not automatically like Christ. When you attain salvation you are a different person and you see everything in a different way. You have a desire to change and God helps you by placing convictions on your life. Now when He wants you to stop doing something and someone tells you it's not wrong, then who should you listen to? Of course you can push off these convictions that you know came from God and be like them. God gives you a free will to make your own choices in life and never forces you to do anything. On the other hand the enemy of our soul, the devil or the thief, has come but to steal, and to kill, and destroy. He's the tempter, you're the tempted, he's the tester, you're the tested, he's the enemy of God and you're the friend of God if you chose to be.
     Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Few there be that find it. My friend, I urge you in these last days to find "The Way" and you and your family will be glad of it. Isn't it a time for a change? My way doesn't work but His way does every time!
     If you need to talk about it feel free to email me or my wife, Traci, and we will be happy to help all we can with God's help.

May God richly bless all HomeSchoolers with His wisdom and grace!!!

~Merry "CHRIST"mas~

Hey!  You can't say that!!!

     I guess I wouldn't last long with today's jobs and governments in the public in todays time. I just couldn't degrade my Saviour's name by saying Merry Xmas or Good Holiday. No, God has not changed and the fact that His only begotten Son "Jesus Christ" suffered and died for our sins and on the third day He arosed from the grave. Now He has ascended up into Heaven and is at the right hand of His Father, God.

     In these modern days the secular world may not believe it, but "Jesus Christ" is still the reason for the season for true Christians who believe in Him. I am a born again believer and after Jesus did all that He did for me while I was a sinner and now saved by His grace I would be happy to shout it from atop of the highest court house for all to hear. I will not be ashame of the gospel of Jesus Christ! I love my Saviour and He loves me!

     I'll never understand how this Nation could outlaw; public Nativies, Ten Commandments, wearing or publicly speaking the name of Jesus Christ in school and still proclaim this to be a "Godly" Nation.

     I try not to get carried away with things but as a Christian Homeschool Dad I must stand for the right which is nothing new, look all through the Bible, there were many that God counted on. Some could be counted on, some couldn't. We must ask ourselves the question, can He count on us? Think about it, situations may change quickly and harshly for the Christian Homeschoolers, so be ready with a made up mind to take a stand for Jesus Christ and Homeschooling.

Remember;

"Jesus is the reason for the season"

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!!

May God Bless All Homeschoolers!!!

Thankful to the Giver?

Hey Everyone!

        I have slowed down enough to put in a quick thought. I hope you are as excited about the holidays as I am. I love this time of the year. My family and I all join in together in the kitchen to cook cakes, cookies, pies, dressings, turkeys, hams, etc. I love the gathering of families and friends eating, talking, and carrying on with each other.
        Now concerning my thought. I'm thankful for all the material and spiritual things that God has bless me with but, am I thankful to the "Giver" of all things? The main blessing that we should be thankful for is that God gave His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to us so that we may be saved! And that Jesus Himself was willing to suffer and die for us so we can be with Him in His Heaven.
        When I remember what a wretched and hopelessly lost sinner I was (Drug addict, alcoholic, mean, full of anger, fighter, liar, boaster, hater, thief, wreckless driver) living in the bars and clubs, my life brought me from living high on the hog with all the drug money to the eventual end being homeless living in alleys, on top of buildings, and eating out of trashcans. My wife and children can testify to the fact that since Jesus saved me the "old man" is dead! I'm not the same man that I use to be, thanks be to God! I regret my old life and all the memories.
        Now I'm a new man in Jesus Christ! I owe Him so much thanks you see. He gave me a new chance in this life to do things His way and a wonderful wife and two precious children, a home, and on and on and on. I'm so thankful to the "Giver of Life", how about you? What has He done for you? Think about it for awhile as your breathing, hearts beating, and eating. Who do you really owe it all to?
        That's my thoughts on thankfulness. How about sharing your thoughts in my comments. I would be glad if you did.
        Please join me in prayer for all the HomeSchoolers in the world. We are going to need each other in the coming months.

Prayers & Blessings to everyone!!!

New Rules ?

~Ten Ways To Help Mama~

1. Look pleasant (brush or comb your hair and be clean).

2. Speak softly and kindly.

3. Do your work cheerfully and well.

4. Do not wait to be told every little duty, but suprise her by doing things before she tells you to do it.

5. See how many times you can save her steps by getting things for her.

6. Put your clothes, shoes, toys, and school books in there proper places. Then you will not need to trouble her to help you find them, and the house will look more tidy.

7. Let her know that you are thankful for what she does for you.

8. Notice when she is tired, or feeling well, or has a headache, and be quiet.

9. Say to her sometimes, "I love you."

10. Pray for her!!!

If you follow these suggestions,

there will be at least two happy persons;

You and your Mama.

Try it and see!

Can Anger Be Controlled?

Anger

"Wise role models are a good thing to have.

If you can control your anger, you'll help your

children see the wisdom in controlling theirs."

      If you're saved by grace then you're in a battle between the flesh & the Spirit. We often refer to it as the "old man nature" (flesh) and the "new creature"(washed clean by the Blood of the Lamb).

     You would be surprised to hear of so many, many people who say that they cannot control their temper. Yet when they are in the presence of certain people (pastors, other parents, public places, police, etc.) they somehow control their temper.

     We, as people, do what we can get away with until someone sooner or later will straigthen us out. Then we learn our limits with certain people and respect their authority or power over us.

     I personally found my limitations when I found Jesus. I use to have so much anger stored up in me and would unleash it on anyone that would get in the way of me doing what I wanted to do. I was a terrible, ugly, rotten person.

     Then one day Jesus came into my life (March 1994) and changed my life forever. There came a calm & peace in me that was overwhelming. I didn't understand what was happening to me at first. I just simply didn't want to hurt anybody again. I wanted to love everyone & be friends with them.

     Jesus changed me so much that that "old man" seems like a total stranger to me! Now I really can't see me like I was then. Now I will tell you that I have been put to the "TEST" time & time again to see if that "old nature" would come back again. Thus far Jesus has kept me in His calm & peace. One day I hope to be able to say like the Apostle Paul "none of these things move me".

     We can only live one day at a time. Don't live one day without Jesus Christ. "I (old man nature) die daily". If you don't know Him as your Lord & Saviour then I urge you to find Him today.

That Little Chap That Follows Me

That Little Chap That Follows Me

~~~~~
A careful man I want to be,
A little fellow follows me
I do not dare to go astray,
For fear he'll go the same self way.
~~~~~

I cannot once escape his eyes.

Whate're he sees me do he tries,

Like me he says he wants to be,

That little chap who follows me.

~~~~~
He thinks that I am big and fine,
he trusts in every word of mine.
The sin in me he does not see,
That little chap who follows me.
~~~~~

I must remember as I go

Through summer sun and winter snow,

I am building for the years to be

That little chap who follows me.

~~~~~
Lord, let my little chap to see
A follower leaning hard on thee;
That as he grows he'll be inspired
To seek the One whom I desire.
~~~~~

Don't you agree? This poem says it all.

I pray that I will always be pure in heart

and a Godly role model for my family.

Let's all follow the "Good Shepherd"

the upward way that leads to "HOME"

~My Copywork~

  Abraham Lincoln was suprised to find when he went to school for the first month that his very first whole sentence was "Trust in the Lord with all your heart" from the school Speller book.

     He told the teacher that "my mother reads that same proverb out of the 'Good Book' we have at home."

     Every night the Lincoln's sat together in front of the fireplace while his mother read from the Bible.

     The Speller used examples from the Bible. For Abe and Sarah the "Good Book" was everywhere. God's Word was as basic to them as air.

     Later on in years he had the Bible memorized, too. It was due to his habit of always reading aloud.

     He felt by using the two senses of hearing and seeing instead of just one sense of seeing he could remember almost anything he read.

                                                                         From "The Young Reader's Christian Library"

     I couldn't resist sharing some of my copywork with you!

Can You Live Longer?

Why is the 5th commandment so important?

THE 5th COMMANDMENT

EXODUS 20:12

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

This is a stepping-stone from the first four commandments to the last five.Our Lord laid great stress upon this commandment (Matt. 15:5-7; Mark 7:10; Luke 18:20), as did Paul (Eph. 6:2).

      The family is the foundation of the nation. We move out from our homes to our fellowmen, and it is essential that a right basis be established here. Parents are the gift of God and stand in place of God to their children. It is a solemn duty, then, for the parents to recognize the obligation and respondsibility of the authority with which they have been invested by God, and of which they must give an account to God.

      Some, in these days, teach that children should be allowed to follow the "bent" of their natures, but if children are to learn to reverence God and obey the laws of their country, they must be made to obey their parents. In the growing indifference to authority to the laws of the land, to the Bible, and to sacred things,lies the seed of anarchy. Therefore, parents who fail to maintain authority are enemies of the state. It is possible for parents to so live as to leave their children a rich heritage.

      This, as the apostle observes (Eph. 6:2), is the first commandment to which God has annexed a promise; and therefore we may learn in some measure how important the duty is in the sight of God.In Deut. 5:16 it is said, "And that it may go well with thee;" we may therefore conclude that it will go ill with the disobedient; and there is no doubt that the untimely deaths of many young persons are the judicial consequence of their disobedience to their parents.

      This commentary came from our Sunday school lesson and I thought I would share part of it with you. My first DC was of a rare type that was always very obedient & well mannered without much chastening. My next two DC are a different story having to be made to obey. We are working with them, praying for them, & sharing the Word of God with them. That's our house, I pray that it goes well with your house.

Prayers & Blessings;

Elton

Feel Like Giving Up?

KEEP TRYING!!!!!!!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If boys should get discouraged
At lessons or at work,
And say,"There is no use trying,"
And all hard tasks should shirk,
And keep on shirking, shirking,
Till the boy becomes a man,
I wonder what the world would do
To carry out its plan?
The coward in the conflict
Gives up at first defeat;
If once repulsed, his courage
Lies shattered at his feet.
The brave heart wins the battle;
Because, through thick and thin,
He'll not give up as conquered;
He fights, and fights to win.
So, boys, don't get disheartened
Because at first you fail.
At last you will prevail.
try, try, and try again;
The boys who've kept on trying
Have made the world's best men.
By: Eben E.Rexford
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I just love those old poems of yesteryear!

We see all too often HS'ers giving up

and putting their DCs in public schools.

I know HS'ing takes up a lot of our

"free time"

We are with our DC the biggest

percentage of time while public

schoolers are with their DC the least

amount of time.

So public school Moms get all this

"free time" to do what they want

while their DC and DH are at school

and work.

In the mean time their DC are taught

things that "if" you knew about it

you certainly would not approve of the

subject matter they are learning and

sometimes are urged not to tell their

parents about it (teaching; sex education,

Darwin theory, the Bible is wrong, errors

in the Bible, wrong to lift up the

name of "Jesus Christ" in public, wrong

to "pray" in public, promotes homosexuality,

lesbianism, ETC...)

Sometimes your DC change before you relize

 it and then you don't know them anymore

and they don't trust you, they rather hang out

with their friends instead of you, your not their

friend anymore and your wondering "what

happened?"

Think about what could happen before you giveup.

Do you really want to give up now?

Is the "free time" really worth it?

Many sacrifices have been made for worthy

causes like HS'ing.

I say it's worth every tear you cried,

every fear you've had, every battle you had,

every stand you made, every victory you've had,

and all for the purpose of raising loving, caring,

Godly children that want you to be their

"best friend for life!"

Don't give up on HS'ing your DC

The best in your child is yet to come!!!

~And They Knew Him Not~

    This is a very, very special time of the year for all the world and yet still their is only a few that truly knows and understands. Some think they know Jesus but their are those in the end that will desire to enter into Heaven and will hear the words "depart from me ye workers of iniquity I never knew you". So that tells me that not only do you need to know Jesus but, He must know you also. We must have an intimate relationship with the Lord. I ask you, how can you possibly say you know Him without an intimate relationship?  We can't just know Him or know of Him. He wants a deeply devoted relationship between you and Him. Love Him with all you got and surrender yourself completely to the Lord.

    1John 1:26 says, Therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not.

    John 1:29 says, John answered them, saying, I baptize you with water; but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not.

    The world knew Him not, how can this be? there were a lot of them that grew up around Jesus and knew Him in the flesh but not in the Spirit. Most in the churches know Him as Jesus, the son of Mary and Joseph, the miracle worker, the healer of their finances, the healer of their sicknesses and afflictions, but few really know Him as "Jesus the Christ", our "Saviour" and soon coming "King".

     Oh there are so many verses I would love to bring out right now but not enough time. I know you get the point. If you are married then you know the longing, yearning, burning need to have that very close relationship with your spouse. You don't like sharing them with their old lovers now do you. He doesn't like to share you with the things in your life that gets between you and Him. Let Him rearrange your life to meet His standard for you. Make Him happy with you by obeying Him and showing Him the faith and trust you have in Him. These are the things that are pleasing to Him.

      If you don't know "Him" then you can by calling on His name right now and ask Him to come into your heart and wash your sins away. then turn away from your sins and walk with Jesus and He will walk with you. If you want or need prayer or just to talk about the Lord (which I love to do!!!) then you can Email me anytime and I will do what the Lord would have me do for you.

    Remember He suffered & died for our sins while we were yet sinners so He wants us to come as we are. Then He will work on us to make the nessessary changes in us. God is so good to us, why did we waste so much of our lives without Him?

Blessing to all & Happy Easter!!!

In Him; Elton

It's All Greek To Me!!!

My DS7 is so thrilled! I simply introduced him to "Microsoft WordPad" and showed him how easy it was to type in other languages. He was just overwhelmed with this new discovery. Now he is learning "Greek" through "WordPad" and loves it. He types messages and lets everyone try to guess what it means. It's amazing that he can read several "Greek" words when he sees them now. He just found out last night that we are soon to study the "Greek" culture and is anxious to get started.

We are going through some changes in our curriculum lately and converting over to CM (Charlotte Mason) now. Our DC love, love, love it. We were going through a lot of stress with HSing for a while and started listening to "Cindy Rushton's" live online chats. She explained a lot about CM and it sounded to good to be true. So we were kind of afraid to do so because this was totally against our "public school raisings". Now we prayed about it and God worked everything out to go that direction and so we by faith tried it. Our family of four loves it!!! It's like we have been missing out on what HSing was really about. Thank-you Cindy for obeying God!

If you are interested check it out for yourself and always pray for God's direction.

Donna Dawson Book Review

       I just finished reading two of Donna's books; "REDEEMED" & "THE ADAM & EVE PROJECT". I couldn't read them one time, but several times.

I'll try to tell you about them without telling too much, hopefully. First of all I found out Donna's a great mystery writer. Both books are very, very captivating like "Gary Paulsen" books. Each chapter leads you into the next chapter so you can't put it down until it's finished. Warning, don't pick it up and start reading til you can finish! If I didn't know any better I would believe that these were true life books. I wished I could tell you everything in the books, but I can't.

I will tell you this, after reading several books about Hitler and the children of the Holocost and then reading The Adam & Eve Project it fits right in with them.

In "Redeemed" you can't help but to love Heather and share her feelings of hurt, fear, love and compassion as you read and follow along with her life. You will cry and be filled with joy with her and her friends as they share the gospel of Christ. Both books also involve Spiritual Warfare too.

Way to go Donna! Two great books! I can't wait till we have your whole collection!

Thank You Donna
