Zimmerly Drive

Sep. 11, 2006 - Ok, Here it is

Yes, things have been insanely busy. During the week, I barely have time to think (usually a problem) and then on the weekend, there are some academics and then social stuff of course. Then there are the days that are so long and cruddy that I don't want to relive them on my blog. : )

So anyway. Things are good. Ballet is a lot of work, but it's paying off already. I love having class everyday and being able to see how I'm improving on this or that. My other classes aren't terribly interesting. One that I'm enjoying more than I anticipated is French. It stinks that they only offer beginning here, and you can't go on. I'll probably take Spanish after this, because there are a lot more related courses, like grammar, literature, etc that will help fluency.

There's really not a lot more to tell. I'm busy as all get out, but having a good time (usually) and learning heaps. So I guess that's the whole point of this college thing anyway. : ) More later this week, probably.

Aug. 26, 2006 -

I said I'd talk some more about school. There's not a whole lot yet, since I've only officially been in class for two days, but here goes.

This semester I'm taking ballet technique, related dance forms, repetoire (which is actually rehearsal), writing, french, and math. Then there are freshman seminar and fath and learning. But those are only once a week and require next to nothing.

So far (which isn't very far) I haven't determined which classes are going to be harder than others. I do know that my longest (but not necessarily most difficult) day is Thursday. I start with math at 8:00 a.m. and don't finish dance team practice until 10:00 p.m.

I finally got my piano lesson scheduled for Tuesday afternoons. Hopefully the professor doesn't listen for three minutes and kick me out. I think I've practiced a grand total of five times all summer, since my senior recital. Yikes.

So tonight we're going to a concert in Casado (our cafeteria/all purpose building). Some band that our RA's boyfriend and another guy we know are in is playing. That was a rather scrambled sentence. At least I'm finally getting the hang of this keyboard. It's a lot flatter than the one on the computer at home.

Ok, I'm going now. I can't think of anything else that would be interesting to write OR talk about. : )

Aug. 23, 2006 - So Here I Am

And it has been a really long time since I last wrote. Or at least it feels that way.

Anyhow. School is good, but then we've mostly been "playing" all week. Classes start tomorrow. For me, the lucky ballet major, class started Monday. But that's cool. Less time for getting more out of shape than I already was. : )

Let's see, what else? My roommate and suitemates are all really nice. I've met so many other people in the past few days, that it's impossible to keep more than ten of them straight in my head at one time. We went bowling the other night, which was fun. And also funny, for the people who were with me. I bowl nearly as badly as I play some other sports.

So today I have to go to major orientation, then ballet class. Then in the afternoon, there's some outdoor games thing going on.

Ok, so I think that's about it. I should probably get going anyway.

Aug. 16, 2006 - Update

Since people have had questions, and I know I have relatives and such reading just to know what I'm doing, I thought I'd provide a more to-the-point update on what exactly I AM doing. : ) Ok.

This week I am packing and getting things ready for school. Also, every evening I have dance practice. On Saturday, I'll be moving into the dorms at Friends University.

I'll be majoring in ballet, no minor chosen yet. I'm thinking of working toward physical therapy eventually. I'd like to mainly work for dancers, because it's hard to find qualified therapists who understand dancers and their specific needs. I'd probably also have to go into athletics, so as to have a larger clientele.

As for today, I'll be practicing piano, sewing a new pair of pointe shoes, watching my siblings and cousins, and seeing if I can still dance in high heeled tap shoes.

   That is all. : )

Aug. 14, 2006 - More Pictures

Here are some more pictures. I'm going to try re-posting the sandcastle one later. Anybody have advice on keeping photos from leaving? I'd really rather not use photobucket or flickr if I can help it.

Anyway, this one is of the ski jump. It was take from the top of this hill. The 418 stairs are behind the photographer.

This is part of the view from the top of the jump. I'd love to go up there in the winter to watch the competitions.

Other than that, I don't really have anything to talk about. Packing, packing, packing. Oh, and I got some really pretty black and blue cups, bowls, plates, and silverware.

Aug. 13, 2006 - I really should be in bed

I have to get up pretty early tomorrow. Yes, we're back from vacation. I don't really have the time (or energy for that matter) to write a whole entry, so here's one of the pictures from Michigan. It's not a huge sandcastle - but bigger than it looks in this picture - and my moat wasn't quite functional, but I think the pretty rocks and shells make up for it. : ) Good night!

Aug. 11, 2006 - Writing About Yesterday...

   ...because nothing has happened today.

We left early (I had to get up at *gasp* 7:30, but I made up for it by sleeping until nine today). And headed to Green Bay, which is about two hours away. A little longer, with the construction for the new four-lane. So we went to Bay Beach for a few hours. It was great. No one got sick. Of course the spinningest thing I rode was the Tiltawhirl. (I think that's how it's spelled, but it always looks wrong.) Nothing really remarkable happened. I do wish I'd taken a picture of the slide though. It's really really high. Not sure exactly HOW high, so we'll just leave it at really. But not as high as the ski jump.

After stopping at Subway, we headed off into the wilderness of Wisconsin to find Grandpa's friend Joe's house. I always want to call him Jeff. That's one of Grandpa's other friends, who we're going to see today sometime. He and his wife have a really neat house that used to be a bar right near the marina. Now it's almost like two houses, and they're thinking of making it into a bed and breakfast type of place. Only neither of them like making breakfast, so it'll be more of a "supper, bed and get outta here" place. Location-wise, it's great. It's right on the bay, and only about ten miles from a main highway.

I think I'm going to go into ice cream withdrawal when we get home. We've had ice cream - I kid you not - EVERY SINGLE DAY since we left. It's crazy, but obviously I'm not complaining. : )

Gotta go, Grandpa wants me to go somewhere with him. Talk to you later!

Aug. 9, 2006 - Laaazyyyy Daayyy

Let's see, what did I accomplish today? -thinking, thinking, thinking - oh, I took a shower. And that's about it. But I guess that's the great thing about vacation, taking it [very] easy since I don't usually. I didn't get up till nine this morning! Then we rode bikes around the neighborhood, and went to the lake this afternoon.

I didn't spend a lot of time in the water, since it was rather chilly. The other kids (my brother and sister and another little girl - we came with her family, since they live next door) mostly splashed around, dove for clams and treaded water (even though they could touch - still haven't fiured that one out) near the buoy and splashed each other and giggled and yelled. The little boy who lives next door, who I think is six and I built sandcastles. If I can get my aunt to email the pictures to me, I'll post some. Being the certified genius I am, I left my camera at home.

Oh, I forgot. I guess I accomplished two things. I helped my grandfather get supplies from the hardware store to fix the drainage from the roof of the house. The only length they had of the pipe that we needed was about ten feet long. Definitely not going to fit in my grandfather's car. So we ended up opening the sunroof and sticking it through there.

Tomorrow we're going to Bay Beach, which is a small amusement park about two hours away. Then we're stopping off to see one of Grandpa's friends who lives near there.

Anyway, I'm gonna go now. Off to accomplish thing #3! (Doesn't that remind you of the Cat in the Hat, with Thing 1 and Thing 2?) We're going to haul off some branches from a tree that Grandpa trimmed this morning. That was actually how he became acquainted with the drainage problem in the first place.

Ok, I really am finished now.

Verse of the Week

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are My ways your ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts." ~ Isaiah 55:8-9

Song of the Week

"But I need You to love me, and I/I won't keep my heart from You this time/And I'll stop this pretending/That I can somehow deserve what I already have/I need You to love me" ~ Barlow Girl
