Shopping Help is Here

Posted in General

The holiday shopping season is upon us. For some people that means the excitement of finding the perfect gift at  a great price; for other people it means dreading trips to crowded malls and shopping plazas trying to find something for everyone on the list. I have come across a helpful online tool that makes shopping easier.

ShopWiki.com is a comparison search engine that helps the shopper find the products they want at the price they are willing to pay-without having to traipse all over the Internet to find the best deals! I have been searching for months for a specific Vera Bradley purse. I put the information in the ShopWiki search engine and it returned several stores with great deals on the bag I've been looking for. I found out that I can get the $40 purse for only $20 from a reputable store I hadn't ever bothered for it at!

You don't have to be in the US to use ShopWiki either, they are expanding into the European nations too. You can visit ShopWiki for the UK,  France and Germany. Please tell your friends about this great resource and let it take some of the stress out of this holiday shopping season.

Where You Go I'll Go

Posted in Ministry

I'm one of the worship vocalists at Journey Church in Bradenton, FL. I know that God uses music to prepare the hearts of His people to hear His Words. He loves when His people lavish Him with praise and thanksgiving for what He's done and worship Him for who He is. We all have different musical tastes but to me, when it comes to worship music the lyrics are what matter most.

Today we sang a very powerful song, I have heard it occasionally over the last year or so but this was our first time leading the congregation in the singing of this song. The words to this song are so powerful and true, transparent and honest that-to truly sing it from your heart you must surrender yourself totally to the will of God. The song is "Where You Go I'll Go" by Brian and Jenn Johnson.
Here are the lyrics.
Chorus:
Where you go I'll go
What you say I'll say, God
What you pray I'll pray
 What you pray I'll pray

Verse:
Jesus only did what he saw You do
He would only say what he heard You speak
He would only move when he felt You lead
Following your heart following Your spirit

Pre chorus:

How could I expect to walk without You
When every move that Jesus made was in surrender
I will not begin to live without You
For You alone are worthy and You are always good

Bridge:

Though the world sees and soon forgets
We will not forget who You are and what You’ve done for us
What You've done for us

Since many of you may not know this powerful song, I'm including a link to a video of Kim Walker and Jesus Culture leading this song in a worship service. I hope this blesses and challenges you as it has me. Please leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts.

NetSpend is one of the leading providers of reloadable prepaid debit cards services in the United States. The company's debit cards enable virtually anyone to make purchases, pay bills, secure reservations, and shop online without the need for a bank account or credit history.NetSpend has one of the most convenient and accessible retail networks in the country, including more than 30,000 card purchase locations and a total of approximately 90,000 debit card reload locations.

I feel this is a great way to start teaching our teens how to use a debit card without the fear of overdraft fees and penalties. In this day and age most people carry little cash and use their debit cards for their purchases. NetSpend allows your teen the convenience of a debit card without the hassles of a traditional card. Destination Disney-Epcot-American Adventure

As an American I am very proud of The American Adventure at Epcot. I wish every American would enter that pavilion and truly drink in the message of what our country was created to be. A strong, independent republic.

One of the most moving elements for me is the song "Golden Dreams" so, I am going to share the powerful song with you. Click on the title to hear the song.

Golden Dreams-The American Adventure

America, spread your golden wings
Sail on freedom's wind, across the sky.
Great bird, with your golden dreams
flying high, flying high.

Restless one in a world of change,
keeping dreams aloft in the rain.
Spirit free, soaring through the clouds
of time, of time.

America, you must keep dreaming now
Dreaming the promised vow of your pioneers
America, keep on flying now.
Keep your spirit free.
Facing new frontiers.

America, spread your golden wings
Sail on freedom's wind across the sky.
Great bird with your golden dreams,
Flying high, flying high,
Flying high, flying high!

Destination Disney-Character Dining

We LOVE Character Dining at Walt Disney World. Yes, it costs more than a regular sit down meal, for those of us not on the Disney Dining Plan) but in some cases I feel it is worth it for the food and the character interaction.

There are currently 11 Character Dining Experiences (not including dinner shows or events at the Swan or Dolphin). Each experience varies as to what meals it serves, how the food is served and which characters are present.

The most sought after Character Dining Experience is Cinderella's Royal Table at the Magic Kingdom. There is something special about dining with Cinderella in the castle that makes it one of the hardest reservations to get. I have never succeeded at scoring this reservation :-( Cinderella's Royal Table serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and is a pre-plated all-you-care-to-eat meal. Characters you may find there are Fairy Godmother, Cinderella, Belle, Princess Aurora, and Snow White.

If it is princesses you are after Princes Storybook Dining at Epcot, which serves family-style breakfast, lunch and dinner at Akershus in Norway at Epcot. You can also try Cinderella's Gala Feast at 1900 Park Fare at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort. There they serve a dinner buffet.

There are 4 breakfast only Character Dining Experiences. I have never done any of these because we are not big breakfast eaters and I cannot justify the cost. These are:
  • Donald's Safari Breakfast buffet at Tusker House in Animal Kingdom. Where you can see Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Mickey.
  • Cape May Buffet at the Beach Club Resort. Where you can usually find Goofy, Minnie and Donald.
  • Supercalifragilistic Breakfast buffet at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian Resort plays host to Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland and the Mad Hatter.
  • 'Ohana Breakfast at the Polynesian Resort is served family style and features Lilo and Stitch.
If you have young children who are Playhouse Disney fans you should check out Playhouse Disney's Play 'N Dine at Hollywood & Vine in Disney's Hollywood Studios. The buffet serves breakfast and lunch and features JoJo, Goliath, June and Leo.

We used to frequent the Garden Grille at Epcot's Land Pavillion, until they overhauled the menu a few years ago. They serve a family style dinner with Mickey, Goofy, Chip and Dale.

Our 2 favorite Character Dining Experiences are #2 Crystal Palace at the Magic Kingom. They serve a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner and feature Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger.
Our #1 choice is Chef Mickey's buffet at the Contemporary Resort. The food is delicious, you MUST try the parmesan mashed potatoes, they are to die for! The service is always good and the character interaction is top notch.

Destination Disney-Epcot-Italy

Italy Pavillion

The Plaza
I don't really visit Italy at Epcot. I used to love the street performers Il Teatro di Bologna (Theatre of Boloney) was an amazingly funny, crowd participation show that I loved in the 80's. Later came the beautiful Masquerade that played its last performance in 2007. So for me, there isn't much left in Italy

Dental Care

Posted in General

I don't know about you but I have been searching for affordable dental care. Since my husband and I are both self employed we have no health insurance or dental insurance. We make sure our boys go to all of their dentist appointments but the costs have doubled in the last 5 years. My oldest son has had braces and my youngest son needs them. My husband and I are both in need of what will end up being thousands of dollars of dental work...when we finally get there.

Fortunately, we may get there sooner than we originally thought. Today I found the Dental Direct Website. They are a national discount company that gives individuals the ability to maintain their oral health without any financial burdens. They offer up to 60% savings on a patients dental work with a national network of qualified dental provider office locations to choose from. Dental Direct benefits are $15 a month for an individual plans, $25 a month for a family up to five people living in the same household, and they even offer a senior discount 65 and older $9.99 a month. Their plan coverage includes general, cosmetic, restorative and even specialty dental services. If you need help affording your dental care check out Dental Direct Website.

Destination Disney-Special Tours

This week's Destination Disney is about special behind-the-scenes tours. I love Disney's tours! Yes, the cost additional money over and above the ticket price but, for the true Disney fan, they are well worth it.

Several years ago my husband and I did the Keys to the Kingdom tour for his birthday. It is a 4.5 hour walking tour of the Magic Kingdom. The highlight of the tour is going into the Utilidors! It was very cool and worth every penny. You must be 16 years of age or older. Currently this tour costs $65.00 per person.

One year we gave my dad and early Christmas present and sent him on the Yuletide Fantasy Tour. Dad is a Disney fanatic and a Christmas Decoration nut so this was the perfect gift for him. This tour visits the theme parks, resorts and the warehouse where the decorations are made. He loved every minute of this trip and still talks about it years later. You must be 16 years of age or older. This tour runs during the month of December and last year it cost $69.00 per person.

There are several tours I would like to do at Disney World. I would love to do the Backstage Safari Tour and tie it in to our homeschooling but you have to be 16 and Jordan is only 14. The Epcot Seas Aqua Tour is yet another homeschoolers dream. My dream tour is the 7 hour $219 per person Backstage Magic Tour. Jordan, my train fanatic, has wanted to do the Steam Trains Tour for years.

Inside the Pirate League at the Magic Kingdom

I had a dream tour a few weeks ago. I was part of the 1st Disney Florida Mom Blogger Mixer. I was privileged to share that weekend with 6 other mom bloggers and we were treated like princesses. We toured Bay Lake Tower, The Treehouses at Saratoga Springs, All-Star Music Family Suite, Caribbean Beach Resort Pirate room, The Pirate League and American Idol Experience. We ate at The Wave, California Grill and Hollywood Brown Derby and rode Characters in Flight. It was a busy day and a half but it was magical! Characters in FlightCharacters in Flight

1st Blogiversary

Posted in General

Today is my 1st Blogiversary. It is hard to imagine my life without blogging and social media. This blog started it all. Last summer was a difficult one for my family. We were having a lot of financial struggles, we were holding on to the hope of a new job for my husband and the move that was sure to come soon after. The job never came, neither did the move. That is ok.

Last summer we knew we were facing a new and different homeschool year because our co-op was not continuing. I learned about notebooking and lapbooking and how to incorporate those into high school lessons.

Since starting this blog and TheMomMaven as well as writing MommyBabble and MomMaven'sMemos I have embraced the talents and gifts God has given me in new and creative ways. I am thankful that I stepped into the world of blogging when I did.

Thank you, my friends and readers for making this past year very interesting.

Fitness Friday July 3, 2009

Posted in Fitness Friday

Hello, I'm back. I missed last week's Fitness Friday because I was at Walt Disney World for the Florida Mom Blogger Mixers. I haven't worked out all week :-( I am just now walking normally after the weekend at Disney! We also ate like royalty on our trip. The social media and Disney Moms Panel cast members took us to The Wave, California Grill and Hollywood Brown Derby for meals. Due to all of this great food, I was afraid to step on the scale but I am proud to announce...I lost 2 pounds! I am right behind schedule lose 20 pounds before I go to IZEAFest, but I am moving in the right direction. I will be back at EA Sports Active this week too.

Sunday's Sermon Notes-Complaint Free Living Pt 1

Posted in Sunday Sermon

Complaint Free Living Pt. 1-Complaining in the Wilderness
Pastor Don Carter Journey Assembly of God

"Don't complain and talk about your problems-80% of people don't care; the other 20% will think you deserve them."~Mark Twain

Deuteronomy 1:26-27a (NIV)
"But you were unwilling to go up; you rebelled against the command of the LORD your God. You grumbled in your tents..."

1. Complaining is Rebellion Against God
Numbers 14:26-35 (NLT)
"Then the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 'How long must I put up with this wicked community and its complaints about Me? Yes, I have heard the complaints the Israelites are making against Me. Now tell them this: As surely as I live, declares the Lord I will do to you the very things I heard you say. You will all drop dead in this wilderness! Because you complained against Me, every one of you who is twenty years old or older and was included in the registration will die. You will not enter and occupy the land I swore to give you. The only exceptions will be Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

You said your children would be carried off as plunder. Well, I will bring them safely into the land, and they will enjoy what you have despised. But as for you, you will drop dead in this wilderness. And your children will be like shepherds, wandering in the wilderness for forty years. In this way, they will pay for your faithlessness, until the last of you lies dead in the wilderness.

Because your men explored the land for forty days, you must wander in the wilderness for forty years;a year for each day, suffering the consequences of your sins. Then you will discover what it is like to have Me for an enemy I, the Lord, have spoken! I will certainly do these things to every member of the community who has conspired against me. They will be destroyed here in this wilderness, and here they will die!"

Definition of a Complainer:One who complains, or expresses grief; one who laments, one who finds fault; a murmurer.

Israel's Complaints:

  • Complained by the Red Sea-Exodus 14:9-12
  • Complained they had no water to drink-Exodus 15:22-24
  • Complained they had no bred to eat and they wanted to return to Egypt-Exodus 16:1-3
  • They cried out again for water- Exodus 17:1-3
  • Complained again when Moses took too long to come down from Mount Sinai and began to worship a golden calf-Exodus 32:1-4
  • Three days after leaving Mount Sinai, they complained again-Numbers 10:33-11:1
  • They complained about Moses' wife's skin color- Numbers 12:1
  • Complained about giants in the land-Numbers 14:1-4
Because of Israel's Complaining the 11 day journey from Egypt to the Promised Land took approximately 14,600 days!

2. A Complaint Against a Leader is Actually a Complaint Against God
Exodus 16:8
"The Lord hears your complaints which you make against Him. And what are we? Your complaints are not against us (leadership) but against the Lord."

When we complaining against the people in our church who are diligently serving the Lord we are actually complaining against God.

3. Our Complaining affects those around us.

4. The Lord urges us to learn from the complaining of the Israelites.

1 Corinthians 10:5, 9-11(NIV)
"God was not pleased with most of them (the Israelites); their bodies were scattered over the desert...We should not test the Lord, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel. These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us."

Luke 12:3 (NKJV)
"Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops."

5. Complaining get God mad.
Numbers 11:1a (NKJV)
"Now when the people complained, it displeased the LORD; for the LORD heard it, and His anger was aroused."

6. Complaining stops when we meditate on the right thing...
Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
"
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

"We can complain because rosebushes bear thorns, OR we can complain because thorn bushes bear roses."~A.L. Todd

7. We all need to change our outlook on life.

Destination Disney-Epcot-Germany

I'll be honest, I don't spend much time in Germany when I go to Epcot. With a last name like Schultz you would think I would visit Epcot's Germany but...the stench of sauerkraut wafting from the Biergarten makes me want to hurl (sorry). I do enjoy the Hummel store and when the wind is blowing in the right direction I peek in there to see what's new. On my birthday trip I did take a picture of one of the buildings so here it is.

Ok, I know what you are saying...here we go again. Yup, you are right, here we go again. I have made some life and mindset changes and I am tackling my weight again. This time I have set a specific, short-term goal instead of the ultimate goal. I want to lose 20 pounds before October 1st. Why that date? Well, I will be attending IZEAFest which is one of the largest blogging conferences in the world. It is being held at SeaWorld Orlando and on October 4th I will be riding Manta! If you want to know more about IZEAFest click on the graphic below.
I am working towards my goal by participating in the 30 Day Challenge through EA Sports Active. I purchased the Wii based workout with a gift card I received for my birthday and it is quite the workout. Today is day 12 and I have lost 3 pounds to date. Keep drinking water, working out, and trying to eat healthier.
