Christian Knighthood Academy for Boys

Aug. 26, 2007 - Good people, Good advice!

We are a new homeschool family, since Feb. 2007.  Most of the time we had at the end of last school year we used to "unschool" our boys.  Getting out of the routine on rushing through assignments and doing enough to get buy, and getting out from behind the desk, was the bulk of their education.  We did work on some other things as well, but our main concern was to get them to understand how different homeschooling would be and how much fun we could have.  We did go on several field trips and lots of nature time.

At the beginning of this school year I was getting very nervous about what to do.  Well, the good people of the FIAR boards gave us some good advice on how to homeschool.  Proving yet again, how wonderful it is to have people to turn to, knowing you are asking some "stupid" questions and no one cares how "stupid" they are.  You will still get good answers from which to glean from.  Last week was our first full week and it went well.  In fact, we are going to rerow the book from last week and can see how to make it better.  Not to say that it was horrible but we can see the holes that we left behind and we are going to go back and fill them in.    We are still working on the ability to row Beyond FIAR, but that will come too.

My point is if we are willing to listen there are good people with good advice, we just have to be humble enough to take it after we ask for it!
