Getting Started: Self-Directed Study

The Self-Directed Study

This study, put out by F.A.C.E. (Foundation for American Christian Education), seems to be the quickest and best way to learn about The Principle Approach.  I went through it in the summer of 2006 through a Yahoo site (sdssupport) and found it extremely helpful.  However, it is not absolutely necessary.  So if you are not interested in doing a study, I believe there would still be much to be gleaned by reading through some of the study material.

The resources necessary to get started on the Self-Directed Study are the following:

  • Teaching and Learning America's Christian History by Rosalie J. Slater
  • Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary
  • Self-Directed Study in The Principle Approach
  • Proposed SDS Schedule (Download here)

I would recommend going on to Amazon.com and looking for "Teaching & Learning".  You may be able to find it used.  Otherwise, through FACE this particular book is about $43.00.   As to the Self-Directed Study, the only place you would probably get that book is FACE.  Their web site is http://www.face.net.   Lastly, you can access Noah Webster's Dictionary on-line at http://www.cbtministries.org/resources/webster1828.htm.  I just put the link on my favorites for easy access.  Eventually, you would want to get the actual dictionary for when you're off line and for the kids, of course.

PS:  As you'll notice from the SDS Schedule, additional supplemental resources are listed as referenced below.  These are wonderful resources and ones that you would definitely want to pick up if you continue with The Principle Approach, but I believe it can be too much of a financial investment until you are certain this may be for you.  Having said that, I felt this was so certainly the direction the Lord was leading me, I did seek out used books and purchased them before doing the study.  When you go on FACE's web site, you'll find there are 3 Red Books called the "Red Books" and a blue C&P book referred to below and a host of other supplemental resources.  You may want to start with less versus more and see where the Lord leads.

  • The Christian History of the American Revolution: Consider & POnder {C&P}
  • American Dictionary of the English Language, Noah Webster 1828
  • The Christian History of the Constitution of the United States-Christian Self-Government {CHOC, I)

Isaiah 40:31 is my sustaining verse. "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." Each day He provides me with a brand new day to accomplish His will. I am truly grateful for his tender care. Thanks for stopping by....karen brummett

My BlogSport

My desire in putting this BlogSpot together is to share my study through The Principle Approach that I had originally put together for some dear friends. If you are brand new to the Principle Approach, please consider going through the "The Principle Approach: A Summary" located below. Then you may wish to consider going through a study put out through the "Foundation for American Christian Education" entitled "Self-Directed Study." You can follow that study through "The Principle Approach: Self-Directed Study" under "Categories". I hope this may add to your study as you renew your mind in Christ.
