Outdoor Adventure Kit

Posted in money time saving ideas and lessons

This is a new idea I came up with.  I am going to keep this in my jeep for those times I am out with the kids. I can not tell you how many times I have been out at my parents' house or the in-laws and could have used these tools for conducting lessons, experiments, or observations.

Almost everything you see either came from the Dollar Store or I had it on hand already.  I am going to list some stuff and if any of you have any other suggestions, please add them on.

The bucket is a 2 1/2 gallon paint bucket decorated by my kids with stickers. I got this from Home Depot. Here is a list of stuff I have included:

Premeasured plaster of paris sealed in a ziploc & put in an old cool whip container for mixing.  I added a bottle of water premeasured for the plaster, a spatula for mixing & spreading for animal tracks.

field guides for birds, bugs, leaves & tracks

paint brushes for brushing away dirt & a spray bottle w water

strainer for stuff in the water

rubbermaid containers to bring stuff home to observe stuff in

gloves for icky stuff

measuring tape

notepad for notes & pictures with colored pencils (crayons would melt)

spoons & shovel for digging, prunning shears,

compass, sundial, magnifying glass, dish cloths

I plan to add butterfly nets when I can find them in the stores.

How neat! I love the idea! You could maybe add one of those little bug houses for observation. Just an idea.

What a great idea!
I have to start getting ready for a ton of May birthdays. I think they should all have adventure kits.

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

There is a bug viewer in the picture. If you look behind the magnifying glass and the spatula leaning on it you will see one. The only place I have been able to find good ones is at a teacher supply store.

I also added paper lunch sacks and ziploc bags for bringing home items collected like leaves or rocks.

And a pinwheel. I will say for judging the wind but really it is pretty and for fun. ;~)'
