We suffered a loss in our household

It is indeed a sad day in our household. Today, our family mourns the passing of our electric pencil sharpener. A valued and probably the most used tool. It has survived a long and useful life. Purchased over 14 years ago at a Wal-mart on Battlefield Parkway in Rossville, GA, it has been a highly used item. It never failed to provide a sharpened pencil when called upon, although in the last few months it was noticed that it was slowing down. It sat, never complaining, on the desk; no matter the weather or mood of the user. It moved without complaint from home to home, state to state.
Its loss has been felt heavy by the children. Now forced to use the dreaded cheap pencil sharpener; they have many time mussed over the good times as they stand over a trash can turning the pencil round and round in order to achieve that sharpened point; though it never seems to get as sharp as the electric pencil sharpener got it.
The artists in the family have really felt the loss because their colored pencils are down to the wood and they hate having to continually stop drawing to sharpen their tools.
But perhaps the one who feels the loss most is the Mom. Because no matter how many pencils she leaves out or where, someone always comes along and takes them so that when Mom needs one, none is to be found. She could always count on grabbing a new one from the pile and have the trusty pencil sharpener ready in a snap.
So we mourn the loss of our pencil sharpener. A most used and overlooked friend. Sigh.
Now if you will excuse me, today was payday so I have to get dressed and get out to Wal-mart to get a new one.

A good pencil sharpener is hard to find. I used to have the best manual one hanging on the wall.

I am sorry for your loss. Our pencil sharpener is thinking about quitting. It's decided that it will only sharpen round pencils. I will probably get a new one when the back to school sales start.
