• Jul. 10, 2008 - The fourth of July

Our family has been VERY busy lately.  (Which is why I haven't been posting... : P )   Here are some of the things we've been doing.

Danielswedding4thofJuly066.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

Every year our Church has a fourth of July softball game.  Afterwards they always do the three man slingshot with waterballoons.  :D

Danielswedding4thofJuly069.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

E looking evil. ;)

Danielswedding4thofJuly073.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

Where most of the balloons found their mark. : P

Danielswedding4thofJuly079.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

Mr. C also looking evil. :)

Danielswedding4thofJuly050.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

A goat that B. F. had to bring along to the softball game because she's only two days old and her mama didn't want her.  Poor thing. :'(  Her name is Mira Gwendolyn Doronda.  (if I spelled that right.)

After the game we went to the beach with a few other families to watch the fireworks.  It was really fun and we got front row seating but there was one drawback.  The ash and little bits of debris kept falling in our eyes. : P

Baby J digging like a dog.

Danielswedding4thofJuly112.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

C eating a sweet pea that had been roasted over the fire on a roasting stick.  Someone had also done a roasted carrot. Ewwww! : P

B. R. and me.

Danielswedding4thofJuly102.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

O with his hot dog.

Danielswedding4thofJuly114.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

J being cute.  (As always.)

Danielswedding4thofJuly106.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

 The coke brigade!  C. L., Z. L., and C. R. : D

I would have had more pictures but my camera ran out of batteries. >:(   Oh well.  Maybe when I get more pictures from my friends I'll put them up.

But I have to go now.  We need to practice for another softball game tonight.  We've had two games so far and won them both becuase the other team didn't have enough players.  But we played anyway just for fun and they beat us!  So on the scoresheets it says we won even though they beat us both times.... : ) Hmmm.

God bless.

• Jun. 10, 2008 - A VERY busy weekend 2

That last post was getting too long so I decided to split it into two.

The day after the graduation a family from Church picked F, E, and me to go fly in some planes.  Their second oldest son is the one who wants to be a pilot.  So they go to a lot of these things.

Graduation103.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke   Three other kids from our Church leaving.

Graduation113.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke Playing Bluff and waiting our turns.

Graduation111.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke A helicopter we watched.

Graduation115.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke Still waiting...

Graduation123.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  Watching someone else take off.

Graduation128.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke Finally F's turn.

Graduation131.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  This pilot practically went straight up in after take off.

Graduation135.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke The girls' turn.

Graduation143.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  Some pictures I took while flying.  It's amazing how different things look from that high up.

Graduation139.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

Graduation170.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  A picture that C took on their way back in.

Also, I am finally up to one hundred comments!!! I probably would have reached that long ago if I hadn't kept moving around.  But oh, well. :)  GraceElizabeth gave me the final comment needed.

 God bless,

• Jun. 5, 2008 - A VERY busy weekend.

Well, the graduation is over.  I think it went pretty well.

Here are the graduates.  Sorry about the bad quality in some of these...

6-1-08007.jpg picture by pearlsandcokeA. F. She goes to our Church's private school.  She did a speech called "More Than Just An Education".

6-1-08008.jpg picture by pearlsandcokeJ. E. Also goes to the private school.  His speech was "From Priests to Kings".

n674522095_895003_9466.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  A. M. Sang a song called "Seize the Day" and accompanied herself with a guitar.  She did a very good job I thought.

6-1-08009.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  J. H. Did a speech, but it doesn't have a title. : )

Graduation011-1.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  J. W. did a very good speech called "God Can Do Great Things In All Of Us."

6-1-08010.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  A. P. who is VERY good with piano played a song called "Dance of the Gnomes".  It was quite amazing.

6-1-08011.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  S. D. did a speech called "Thank You For This Day".  It was a beautiful speech and I found it very motivating.

6-1-08012.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke Z. L. did a speech called "Finally Here".  He is some sort of internet page designer so that's why his picture is in front of the computer. : D

Graduation033-1.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke B. R. Did a speech called "My Life In Two Minutes."  She is my very good friend so I was very glad that we were graduating together.

6-1-08013.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke  C. L. did a speech called "Flying High."  He is going to be an airplane pilot.  Notice the plane in the background?  He's also thinking about graduating from college in a few years.  He's my age. 16...

 Some pictures of the ceremony.

Graduation064.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke Setting up for a dance.  I think it was "Take a Dance".  It's a very "pompous" one. ; )

Graduation038.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

Graduation035.jpg picture by pearlsandcoke

I meant to get some pictures of everyone's tables where they put their pictures and stuff but I didn't.  Oh, well.

One of my friends got me a new journal and inside it she wrote,

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,

You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,

May you never take one single breath for granted,

God forbid love ever leave you empty-handed.

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,

Whenever one door opens I hope one more opens,

Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,

And when you get the chance to sit it out or dance...

I hope you dance.

By Mark D. Sanders.

Another friend wrote on the back of her letter to me,

May God bless and keep you always,

May your wishes all come true,

May you always do for others

And let others do for you.

May you build a ladder to the stars

And climb on every rung,

And may you stay forever young,

Forever young, forever young,

May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,

May you grow up to be true,

May you always know the truth

And see the light surrounding you.

May you always be courageous,

Stand upright and be strong,

And may you stay forever young,

Forever young, forever young,

May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,

May your feet always be swift,

May you have a firm foundation

When the winds of change shift.

May your heart always be joyful,

May your song always be sung,

And may you stay forever young,

Forever young, forever young,

May you stay forever young.

By Bob Dylan.

I think both of those songs are beautiful.

Well, here I go on the next stage of my life.

God bless,

Rose

• May. 21, 2008 - Recital

Well, we went to the recital.  I'm not really sure how I did.  I know I didn't sing loud enough on some of them.  Especially "Tonight".  The low notes are really hard for me to sing loudly.  But here they are, in order, for your consideration. : )  "Se Tu Ma'mi", "Tonight", and "Lascia Chio'Pianga".  Our camera is no good so the quality isn't very good.

I was so nervous my knees were knocking together and my voice trembled quite a bit.  But I wasn't nearly as nervous as I was last time.  I really love singing.  I just wish I could get over how much stage fright I get.  It's very frustrating.

The person who got the real applause that night was another girl who also takes music lessons from my teacher.  She did a song from "Oklahoma", but I can't remember the name of it.  She did a VERY good job.  She had this whole act thing to go with her song.  I wish I had gotten a recording of it, but it wouldn't have shown up on our camera really at all.

I will be singing "Lascia Chio'Pianga" for graduation too.  I really like that song.  But my favorite song that I've learned so far is "Tonight".  I wish I could sing louder for it.  But I really enjoy singing it.

 Blessings

• May. 16, 2008 - Yipeee!

I CAN NOT believe how warm it got is today.  Just a couple days ago it was dumping down rain.  Now it feels like summer.  Oregon has strange weather.  We can get five different types of weather in one day. ; )

I've got a recital tomorrow...  I'm feeling really nervous right now.  I even dreamed about it last night.  In my dream my voice got caught in my throat and I croaked.  Ugh.  I'm going to try and tape it so I can post it here.

Even though I haven't posted in a long time there isn't really anything to say.  Not much has been going on around here.  Oh, yeah except one thing...... : D : D : D : D : D!  Mama is going to have another baby!  Sometime in December we think.  I am REALLY praying for a girl.  If it is a girl I think we'll name her Lorica Nowell/Noelle.  If it is a boy we're not really sure what we would name him... Kind of ran out of boy names.

Anyhow... How are things going with you guys?  What have ya'll been doing lately?

  Blessings

• Apr. 30, 2008 - Reading

All of last week I had NOTHING to read!  Which is quite depressing. Now I've got several books to read! Hooray!!!

I'm reading The Magician's Nephew by C. S. Lewis to the little girls and my assigned reading is Prayer, Finding the Heart's True Home by Richad J. Foster.

For fun I'm re-reading Beyond the Summerland from the Binding of the Blade series by L. B. Graham, reading The Butler Did It by P. G. Wodehouse, and (I'm not sure I can call this "fun", but it is interesting) Hillary Rodham Clinton, Living History by Hillary Rodham Clinton.  I would never EVER spend money on it so we got it from the library.  Hah!

I'm taking a break from Princess Bride for a while so I decided to do Science Fiction.  I really like Doctor Who a lot!  Rose is one of the Doctor's companions who comes with him and keeps him company.

• Apr. 22, 2008 - Happy Birthday!

Last Friday was E's birthday and tomorrow is F's birthday.  E is now 12 and F is turning 9.  I can't believe how old F is getting.  She's starting to wear hand-me-downs that I can remember wearing.  That is rather strange...

F is one of the most generous people I know.  If she has something, anything, she HAS to find someone to share it with.  She could possibly bust if she couldn't. : D

E makes friends very easily.  She is pen pals with several friends and is always very diligent to write back quickly.  She's probably a bit better about that than I am.

 Anyway Happy Birthday!

• Apr. 10, 2008 - Music

Here are the songs I have been working on lately.

"I couldn't be Happier", Which I guess is now called "Thank Goodness", from "Wicked".  I don't really like the words, but the music is beautiful.  I just recentlly finished this one.

"My Immortal",  by Evanescence.  I know the lady is creepy and the video is wierd, but it is a gorgeous song.  I prefer to watch it set to a movie or tv show I like.  It is also good practice becuase it goes so low.

"Moonlight" by Roger Quilter.  This song is very easy, but fun to sing.  The song I sing starts at 4:01.

"Se tu m'ami" by Alessandro Parisotti.  I just started learning this one recently.  This is another song in which I don't like the words at all but I love the music.  It means:

"If you love me, if you sigh only for me, kind shepherd, I feel sorrow for your suffering; I feel pleased that you love me.  But if you think that I must love only you, little shepherd, you are easily subject to self-deception.  Today Silvio chooses a beautiful red rose, but with the excuse that the thorns prick, he will despise it tomorrow.  The advice of men, I myself won't follow.  Just because the lily pleases me, I won't despise the other flowers."

I'm still  working on "Lascia Ch'io Pianga" because it is my graduation piece.  I love this song.

I'm also teaching myself "Liz on top of the World", "Fur Elise", and the "Pink Panther" theme, which is fun to play on the piano. : D  Of course I am still working on my Phantom of the Opera and the rest of the Pride and Prejudice music.

• Apr. 8, 2008 - Graduation!!!

I can't believe that it is only about 2 months till the graduation!  I always knew it would come eventually, but not this soon.

There are 11 of us graduating this year so the speeches have to be kept short.  I do NOT want to make a speech so I'll sing one of the songs that I've been working on lately.  My voice teacher and I have decided on "Lascia Chio Pianga".  It is very beautiful and fun to sing.  She said it also fits my voice a little better than some of the other Italian songs we have worked on.

The color theme for the graduation are St. Patricks day green and royal blue.  So Mama and I have decided on a dress something like this, in the royal blue color.  Make the skirt longer and not quite so full.  I can't wait till it is done.  I got the idea from "Cliffs of Insanity"

One of my best friends and I are in charge of a dance that is supposed to happen after the reception and I am VERY excited about that.  If you hadn't noticed already I absolutely ADORE dancing!!!  It is one of my absolute favorite things of all time to do.

I am sooo thankful that some good friends are graduating at the same time.  Also that I'm not the youngest person doing it.

• Apr. 3, 2008 - Gossip

Whoever hides hatred has lying lips and whoever spreads slander is a fool. (Prov. 10:18)

A talebearer reveals secrets, but he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter. (Prov. 11:13

A perverse man sows strife and a whisperer separates the best of friends. (Prov. 16:28)

He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips. (Prov. 20:19

It's amazing how many verses there are in the Bible about tale bearers or a gossip.  Gossip is such an awful thing you could even separate the best of friends according to Prov. 16:28.  1 Pet. 4:15 says "But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, and evildoer or as a busy body in other people's matters."  A busybody is in the same category as a murderer.  The Bible says that being a gossip is just as bad as stealing from someone.  And you are stealing from people when you spread rumors about someone.  You are stealing their good name.

There are a few different kinds of gossip. I am sure that just about everyone has been guilty of this first kind at least once in their life.  "Oh, did you hear what Mary did the other day?" or "Susan told me that Sarah told her..." Just off-hand comments about other people. Sometimes just saying unkind things to someone else, about your siblings or parents.  How your parents just don't understand you or how annoying your brother is.  This kind of gossip is backbiting and rude.  You may not even mean anything rude, just told a friend about something about someone they might have preferred kept private.

Then there's the kind when you might have overheard part of a conversation or see something you think might be interesting and then maybe you exaggerate it to a friend and they exaggerate it to their friends and so it keeps getting bigger and bigger and keeps spreading.  That is spreading a rumor and can be dangerous.  It can make life very hard for the person/people it involves and cause a lot of hurt and pain.  99% of the time those kinds of rumors are based on myths.

Then there is the worst kind. That's when people actually make up lies about another person to hurt them or make then look bad.  Or putting a negative twist on everything that person does.  "Oh, they're only doing that because of this.  They wouldn't do it otherwise."   Automatically assuming the worst about someone.

But not only should we be careful not to do these things we should do the opposite of them.  Instead of talking about someone else's faults we should talk about their good qualities.  Instead of spreading rumors do your best to end any you may hear.

And please don't ever assume the worst of anyone.  "Innocent until proven guilty."  If you don't know for sure don't tell anyone.  Rumors can spread faster than any weed.  They can also cause more damage and harm than a weed.  Just remember you don't know the whole story and be careful what you say about someone else.

• Mar. 24, 2008 - Happy Late Easter : )

Last week F and I gave the other kids an Easter Egg hunt.  My Grandma used to do it but she doesn't want to anymore.  F had a lot of fun hiding the eggs.  He was really creative in the way he did it.  He decorated out apple tree with them and it looked really nice.  I would have taken pictures but we didn't have it here.  It's so much fun watching the youngest kids look for them.  They are so cute! :-D

I think last Thursday was the first day of Spring wasn't it?  I just love Spring in Oregon.  I love all of the cherry trees that bloom around our house and on our way to Church.  I love all of the seasons and whichever one we are in at the time is my favorite.  They each have something beautiful and interesting about them.

A family at our Church has just lent us a mandolin and I'm going to learn to play it (or try anyway...). I was inspired by all of the Nickel Creek videos. Especially "Smoothie Song".  I did want to learn violin, but there are already two other people in our family who are learning it and only one other person going to learn mandolin, plus it looks easier, so I decided on that one.

Someone just sent me this joke and I thought it was funny... : )

" 'Mr. and Mrs. Clinton went on a flight tour of England. This was a private plane and they and the pilot were the only people on the plane. As they passed over a very poor part of England Mrs. Clinton said 'I’m going to throw 5 one dollar bills out the window and make 5 people happy.' She then threw 5 one dollar bills and made 5 people happy. Now Mr. Clinton seeing this said 'I can do better, I will throw 10 one dollar bills out the window and make 10 people happy' He then threw out 10 one dollar bills and made 10 people happy. Now the pilot was hearing all of this. Mrs. Clinton said 'Oh ya beat this, I'm going to throw 25 one dollar bills out the window and make 25 people happy.' She then threw 25 one dollar bills out and made 25 people happy. Now Mr. Clinton said 'That’s nothing I will throw out 50 one dollar bills and make 50 people happy.' He then threw 50 one dollar bills out the window and made 50 people happy. Now the pilot turned around and said, 'I will throw both of you out the window and make EVERYBODY happy!!!' "

• Mar. 18, 2008 - okay...

Some friends of ours gave us a computer. Yes!!!

On the 11th last week one of my friends from Church and we watched the new Stargate movie, "The Ark of Truth".  It didn't exactly meet my expectations for it and there were several scenes that could have been REALLY good, but they just didn't do them right.  Oh, well.  As long as I can watch it from now and try to enjoy it as Stargate I think I will enjoy it.  I'm still looking forward to the next movie "Continuum" which is supposed to come out some time in July.

On the 12th there was a singing and making melody night at our Church and I sang "My Jesus I Love Thee".  I was scared stiff, even more so than I have been before, and did rather badly.  I really wish I had a second chance at it.  But if you want to listen to it, here's the link.  It was really dark so you can't exactly see anything.  My brother F, played "Amazing Grace" on his guitar with his teacher and did a very good job.  It sounded really nice and our Church's Select Choir sang "African Sanctus" along with some type of drum, a triangle, and one of those things you shake.  I can't remember what they are called...  And there were lots of other really good pieces.

Other than that not much is going on around here.  The girls and I have been continuing with their schoolwork, I've been doing my assigned reading, and practicing my piano and singing.

• Mar. 1, 2008 - Our Week

Sorry I haven't posted in a while.  This week seems like it went by so quickly.

Last Monday O decided he wanted to go down the stairs a little differently.  He got Z's mattress (which was on the floor upstairs) put it at the top of the steps and slip down the stairs sitting down on it.  It stopped about halfway down but he kept going the rest of the way down by himself and hit his head on the sharp corner of the shoe rack.  It was quite traumatizing.  Blood was gushing out of his head and he was screaming "I'm dying! I dying! Help ME!!!!" But it's healing nicely now and he is quite excited to show he friends at Church his war wound. : )

I go though these phases on what I like to listen to.  Right now I'm really into "Nickel Creek".  I especially like "When In Rome", "Smoothie Song", and "This Side".  They do some REALLY weird stuff, but I looove the way they sound.

Mama and I went up to the library today.  We had a good time looking at books and CDs but when it was time to go we chose the worst time possible.  It was dumping down rain and getting harder and colder as we went.  I said that it was going to start to hail soon and sure enough about five minutes after I said that the hail started to come down.  By the time we got home my skirt was sopping , my shoes looked like someone had dropped them in a bucket of water, and my hair was dripping wet.  Oh, well.  That's what we get for living in Oregon I guess. ; )  But I don't mind a little rain.

One of Papa's workers was over this morning to pick Papa up.  He's a Democrat but very nice. Mama made him breakfast and he hung around in the kitchen talking to Mama while he waited for Papa to finish his paperwork.  O was being a show off as he usually is if there is anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to him.  He was flipping pancakes and making comments about them.  We make two batches of pancakes.  One with milk and one with rice milk because F is allergic to milk.  O seems to see that as wimpy so for some reason  he said the non-milk pancakes were the girls and the pancakes with milk were the boys.  We were laughing a bit at that and asking him why he thought that when he said "The non-milky pancakes are the Democrats!"  When he said that everyone just cracked up completely.  And Mama asked him what the libertarians are.  He said they were the milky pancakes and that republicans are a little of both.  Both Milky and Non.  It was really funny. : D

• Feb. 18, 2008 - A Keeper At Home

What with all the attention on the political race lately there has been a lot of debate as to whether or not a woman should pay any attention to politics.  Reason being that a woman should be a keeper at home and leave politics to the men.

I completely agree that a woman should be a keeper at home but I don't agree that women should ignore politics completely.  Of course taking care of your home should come first.  You shouldn't let your house go to pot while you look things up on YouTube or read political blogs.

I think that a man would want a woman who he could talk things of interest, like theology or politics with.  I mean the new brand of laundry soap you found can only go so far.  To quote "Mr. Knightly",  "Men do not want silly wives!"

I think that politics are very important.  I mean don't you think that the next president or what is going on in our government is just as important as washing the windows.  Women have been called to be keepers at home in the same way as men have been called to be providers for their family.  And really a woman has a lot more time than most men.  Papa works all day and comes home tired at night.  He doesn't have any time really to spare reading political blogs, or listening to talk radio, or anything like that.  He wouldn't know what was going on if Mama didn't tell him.  A wife can serve her husband in that way.

Also, aren't women called to train up their children?  Shouldn't government be included in that???  Youngest baby J is currently going through a class of his own.  He's only just over a year but we are already getting him started.  Mama shows him a picture of Hillary and SCREEEEEEEEEEAMS!  Scary lady!! ; )

If women can have time to knit or blog even they shouldn't say that they are too busy being keepers at home to pay attention to the state of our country.

INXS Don't Change

I really like this video!  Especially the pink socks.  ; )  I know you are all probably going to think I'm really wierd, but of all our favorites on Youtube this is our most watched.  : D

Our computer is acting up again so we haven't been able to get on much for fear it will completely collapse on us.  We're hoping to have the new hard drive installed this Saturday...
