Day 6

We had to get up at 6:00 today.   It was only a 30 min ride this morning to our destination but all 5 of us went to sleep before we got there!! Today we went to JAMESTOWN where it all started!!!  Jamestown was the 1st English settlement on North American soil.  It was fun to see the actual forest that Squanto lived and hunted in.   We just realized today that Jamestown became a settlement on S’s birthday!!  May 13, 1607.

While a guide was telling us the story of Pocahontas, T spotted an EAGLE in a tree!!  He was upset with me for not getting a picture before it left the tree.  I did get a pic as it was flying but it got too high too fast to get a really good picture.  We saw eagles flying above us all day but never did see another one sitting in a tree.  We went through a Powatan Indian village and went aboard a replica of one of the ships, the Susan Constant, that sailed to Jamestown from England.  All 3 ships are on display but we only got to go on one, seems we’re always RUSHED!!

After leaving Jamestown we went to Yorktown and stood on the “surrender grounds” where the British surrendered to George Washington to end the Revolutionary War, October 19, 1781.  WOW!!!  The boys had a blast playing in the trenches the soldiers dug during the war and they were amazed with the cannons also.

As of tonite I have taken 552 pictures on this trip.  Just today I FINALLY found some scrapbook paper and stickers for the pics I’m taking!!  WooHoo!!!  Only my Scrap Pals will understand my excitement!!  haha

Tonite we are staying in the beautiful mountains of Charlottesville, Virginia.  Stay tuned for more.  Tomorrow we have an 8 hour bus ride to New York City…
