Well, I didn’t realize how popular my blog is until I got several requests to get it updated! Once I do fill you in on the last 2 months it may take you 2 months to read it all!! Haha So here’s goes my update! Enjoy!!
After getting back from our trip we had a HARD HARD time getting back into a routine! I think we finally did about the middle of MAY! Life has been crazy busy. I guess that’s why we couldn’t get back into our daily routine. Daddy & all the boys had ear infections after the trip. I don’t really know what brought those on, it could have been many things, but we finally got them all well once the weather warmed up.
We celebrated our Risen Saviors’ Easter weekend with my SIL and niece from Iowa. The weather for the family reunion that Saturday was beautiful. The kids hunted eggs and flew kites. Then Sunday morning brought COLD wet weather! I actually wore my fur coat to church after enjoying the wonderful sunshine the day before!
We started baseball practice the week we got back from the trip and we are STILL enjoying the baseball season! Daddy is coaching T & N’s team. N played in his 1st tournament the 1st weekend of April. It was a good experience for him becuz he’s never played on a team that Daddy didn’t coach. He played catcher for the 1st time and did an awesome job! The coach called just today and asked if N could play for him again in a tournament next weekend. N is excited! S played soccer this Spring but I think he’s made the switch to baseball! He would be playing on the team now if he could get away with it! He practices with the older boys twice a week and he’s getting pretty darn good at baseball!!
Baseball season has been LONG but fun! It is really neat to see the boys improve over the season. We have some boys that couldn’t hit, catch or throw a ball at the beginning of the season but now they are coming together as a team and doing GREAT! (Of course! Since there’s only 1 more game!) T has improved on his pitching! At a game last week he pitched 3 innings without walking ANYONE!! In that same game he struck out 3 batters in a row! 3 up, 3 down!! GO T!!!! He’s also hit 3 awesome homeruns this season!! Maybe 3 is his lucky number!
Spring brought some cute surprises around our house. We had 2 baby squirrels living above our waterfall. They were SO CUTE! My favorite thing about Spring is watching everything come alive! I love to see the fish in the pond go from inactive boring fish to lively spawning fish! They are so fun to watch! We always have new baby dove to watch every Spring as well. God is so good!
T & N took a Middle Ages class through our co-op and it was very interesting learning so much about the Middle Ages! They made Middle Ages Lapbooks and had a class party at which they were certified as… “a High Ranking Knight – of the Most Important Homeschool Realm”. The class AND the party was a lot of fun!
Daddy & I got to attend the NM homeschooling convention in April. It was nice to get away without the kids and be able to be “fed” by other homeschooling parents!!! We came home refreshed and full of new ideas! Those conventions are ALWAYS SO GOOD!!! It was a blessing to get to go!
Our homeschool choir performed 2 more programs with Dr W’s community band, in the 1st they sang songs from The Sound of Music and the 2nd was Patriotic songs. The choir also sang at the Lea County Home School Associations Graduation. They did a great job on all 3 programs! I wrote a skit that the boys and I performed at the annual “Spotlight” talent show. We had so much fun and got tons of compliments after the program.
In May the boys painted wood projects – jewelry box, bird house, boat, bird feeder – for Grandmothers Mother’s Day gifts. I always enjoy their creativity!
My BABY turned 6 in May! I keep telling him he’s Mama’s baby but he corrects me and says… No! I’m your BIG BOY!! He said that last year when he turned 5 but I talked him into being my baby for one more year! This year, he’s not budging!! He’s 6 and that’s a BIG BOY!!
During the last 2 weeks of school S learned letter B so we studied Butterflies and how God can make us new. We got a butterfly kit and watched 5 caterpillars make their amazing transformation into butterflies. After keeping them a week, we released them in the back yard. They all hung around the pond for a good while that day.
T & N continued with guitar lessons thru our co-op and now that summer is here they are just practicing on their own. They both are getting pretty good. Like their Mom and their PaPa they do better playing by ear than reading music. We all enjoyed the Music Theory class this semester. I know how to read music but I did learn some things that I did not know! I was happy to learn that my brain CAN still hold a thing or two! S enjoyed his violin lessons as long as I was doing it with him but when I broke a string on my violin & couldn’t find anyone in this town to re-string it, I stopped practicing with him and he kinda lost interest. I’ve found someone (out of town) to repair my violin, so maybe he’ll pick up where we left off when I get it done. It is a FUN instrument to play and much easier than I thought it would be!!
We finished up school around May 20 something… I was pleased with what we got accomplished this year. S is reading pretty well, N improved TREMENDOUSLY on his reading, T & N’s handwriting improved, and they both passed Math tests with flying colors!! As an End of School treat we went with some friends to see Narnia: Prince Caspian!!! If you haven’t seen it – you MUST! The boys & I read the Narnia books a few years ago, so we look forward to seeing the movies when they come out!
We started our Summer by visiting my Dad & my PaPa in Del Rio. They are doing good. PaPa will be 91 in September and he’s still driving and living by himself!! We got caught in a bad hail storm on the way home that busted my front windshield and beat up my truck pretty bad. It was pretty scary! The boys did really well, they were glued to their DVD movie and acted like they had no clue we were in a storm! I was nervous in the storm but now I’m more nervous that Daddy will “Trick my Truck” when he gets that insurance check!!! Haha
Spring was not all that warm, in fact most days were flat out COLD. But now it is very HOT outside!! I think we went from Winter to Summer!! It’s been over 104 for almost a week now! I am loving it becuz I am a SUMMER person! We got the pool ready to swim in last weekend and the boys have lived in it this week! We all LOVE SUMMER around this house! This Summer is special as we are expecting our FIRST nephew in about 2 weeks!! The boys are so excited to have a BOY cousin to play with!!
I think I’ve got you all updated now! I’ll TRY to not wait so long before my next update!
Here’s some pics for you to enjoy….
THAT'S NOT ALL!! You gotta check out these pics too....
Jun. 10, 2008 - Just sitting her in AMAZEMENT!
The caterpillar pictures are beautiful. Do you have any of them when they turned into butterflies? I'd sure like to try that project with my family next year. ;o)
Don't you just love the baby doves? They are so sweet and peaceful looking. We had a few this year too!
I agree with you about Prince Caspian....
I give it 2 thumbs UP for sure!!!! I was amazed at the things the kids saw in the movie that I missed.
Hope the Collins Crew has a wonderful and HAPPY summer!
Love,
Lori
