Consider The Lilies - Luke 12:27
• Aug. 27, 2008 - Getting Ready for Baby and some lessons for the children....
Monday night my overworked husband was finally able to get the garage decent enough to get to the huge stack of containers that contained the "soft" baby stuff (diapers, clothes, etc.). We found the 2-3 containers that I absolutely had to have and he brought them inside.
We proceeded to open them and go through the contents to see what I needed out of them. My children made the required high pitched noises as we went through the few outfits that I had left from G (now 7). Between my giving 1/2 of what I had left of his away and only having a limited amount from him anyway due to a communication error between my brother and I about what to do with the clothes I had let him borrow for my nephew, G did not have a whole lot of outfits left over. However, due to the wonderful friends I have, Jr. will be well clothed. A couple of my friends did what I was not able to do - go to the rummages & resales and for a very, very small amount of money, I have a pile of clothes that cost next to nothing - and they look brand new (and one great friend brought me a huge amount already washed!)!
My husband was teary eyed as he realized just how big G is (he grew into a new pair of shoes this summer that were sloppy huge on him 3 months ago, lol!). Then the children were even more excited as one of the containers revealed blankets, the front pack I used to wear them in, a few crib rail toys, etc.
M was bugging me all day yesterday to at least wash one load of baby clothes because she said folding baby stuff would be fun since it is soooo cute. I have to smile. I have to wash the blankets and diapers as well, but it is very fun!
One lesson (outside of homeschool lessons) that they have absolutely got to get through their heads between here and Jr.'s arrival - you have to ask before you invite your friends into the house - and they have to wait outside while you ask! A couple of reasons for that:
#1) Daddy is not amused if he is running downstairs in his boxers to get the pants he needs out of the dryer - only to find that you have an unexpected friend in the living room (thankfully, he was not seen by dd or the friend, but boy was he annoyed). Boxer dashing does not happen often, but the surprise was a bit much.
#2) Mommy will not be amused if you walk in with said friends while she is nursing baby in said living room - the odds are good that when she is nursing at home, she may not be as well covered as she would be out in public. (I forsee this one coming).
#3) Mommy does not appreciate coming down the stairs in her nightgown to see the friends in the living room..... Yes, I am well covered, but I would prefer to have the correct clothing & undergarments on underneath before I greet the world, LOL! And yes, this has happened. Sigh.
I guess this is one of the things we are all still adapting to since we moved this last time. Having children for friends/neighbors adds a whole different spin on training the children. I had been spoiled prior to this - and yes, I am actually looking forward to public school starting and some of them being gone most of the day, LOL! The other family is homeschooled, but I know they have lessons all morning as well, so no problem there. |
