Consider The Lilies - Luke 12:27
• Jan. 12, 2009 - Oh the weather outside is frightful....
Wait - that is supposed to be a Christmas song (though I am not sure why!). My friend V reminded me in a comment she made, about the weather adaption that I had after I moved from OK to WI (she has that in reverse right now). I did live in IN for the first 12 years of my life, but I had lived in OK for 15 before I moved up here (hmmm starting to catch up - been here in WI for almost 14!). Eeek - I just gave away my almost age, lol!
Anyway, when I was ready to move, my fiance (now beloved husband for almost 14 years) flew down to help me to relocate to the frozen tundra of WI. It was early March at that point in time, I believe. And in central OK, that is pert near Spring. The temperature was in the 40's. Now, I will tell you, that was horridly cold to me. I would be bundled up in mittens, coat, hat, etc. for those temps (I laugh at myself now!).
Wait, wait - to make my point, let me back it up a year. I had come up to WI to spend a week with my (then) boyfriend and his family. I came over July 4th week. Now keep this in mind - that week in OK is awful and hot and muggy and demands A/C! The Independence Day parade in my home town started at 10 and it was already horridly hot outside for those parades! So, I was thinking it would be a tad bit cooler in WI, but not tremendously so. Initially, it did not disappoint. It was lovely and in the mid-80's. Quite comfortable (our lows in the summer can be high 70's to mid-80's, lol!). On July 4th, in the late afternoon, we had a hum-dinger of a thunderstorm come through. Bad enough that we were watching for tornados to appear. And of course, with that storm, the temperature dropped. I mean seriously dropped! It went from mid-80's to low 60's in the space of a couple of hours. I was FREEZING! I mean, that is FALL weather for us in OKC, lol! I had come with only shorts, t-shirts, etc. My future in-laws thought it was hilarious that I was so very, very cold! I had to borrow a sweatshirt to wear so I could stay warm.
Fast-forward from 1994 to 1995 - back to moving to WI. My future dh was driving around OKC in early March (remember 40 degrees) - with the windows down on my car and the sunroof open!!! I was horrified! He could catch his death of cold - worse - people in the area knew my car and would think **I** was the nutty one with the windows down!
So, this whole thing gets even sillier - Fast-forward again to Winter 1995-1996 (I want to say January 1996??? I could be wrong on that one) and we are in WI. We had had some simply awful weather for a couple of weeks - wind chills were running anywhere from -25 to -50 degrees. It was cold, nasty and I was not convinced that we should not move back down south (funny, I am having those same feelings this winter, lol). Then, we had a thaw. It warmed up from the neg. temps to 30 degrees.....and here was silly me - riding with the car windows down as if I had good sense, LOL! Can you imagine!?!! My internal thermostat had adjusted that quickly (although, that prev. summer, I was laughing at people who just could not stand that the temps were at 92 degrees and the humidity put the heat index around 100 degrees - that was nothing to me, lol!).
Anyway, V mentioned that everyone down in OKC was wearing their parka's and bundled up with temps of 40's & 50's - although there are some 20's coming. Just remember V, spring is almost there - you clear Valentine's Day and it will start warming up - spring is just a few short weeks away for you!! Could be May before we see spring in this deep freeze (and an on-line friend who lives in BC Canada thought they were just fine with -31 at Christmastime, lol!).
It's all in how you look at it, I guess! But, with the local weather people's forcast of -15 to -20 is cracking me up - none of the national weather forecasts have that listed. Sure, we have some below zero temp's coming (AGAIN) for a few days, but not that cold - But, it keeps those weatherpeople busy and something to talk about on the news, lol! Global warming - yeah, right....
