I saw them interviewing the author of this book on the television this morning while I was making the bed in my room (yes, I actually watched something, lol!). ANYWAY - while several books have been written regarding modesty, tastefulness, etc. from Christian point of view, it is a much smaller number that have been written from a secular point of view.
I have not read this book yet (obviously - it is brand new on the market), but I hope to sooner rather than later. However, I was able to read a few sample pages on Amazon and it looks very fun and very interesting. If they can get this out in the front of bookstores and in bookstore windows, we might have a chance at not having to see everybody's personal pieces and parts (IYKWIM). Well - if any of them can tear themselves away from their texting before they walk into a pole....
I was just lamenting the lack of ladylike-ness in the modern female while watching "To Catch a Thief" with Grace Kelly (ooh, and Cary Grant, love me some Cary Grant). L & I have been watching all of these older movies where the women were ladies and the men were gentlemen. I am hoping that being exposed to the ladies in the movies, she will aspire to be more than a Hannah Montana look alike.
I am definitely picking this one up, if I finish it by Thursday, you can borrow it :)
And I love the title of the first chapter:
Keep Your Chin Up and Your Skirt Down
So I read it from cover to cover and most of it for me is common sense, but I'm not sure if I had that common sense back in my early twenties. It is aimed at the early 20-something or younger, who is out looking for a more professional job, a serious relationship. It talks about clothing and how to dress in a more classy way, it touches on undesirable behavior and why to be careful who you choose as friends, it discusses weight issues and how not every one is going to be a size 2, but you can be happy with your size, there is a chapter on makeup and how less is more and the author reminds girls that there is more to life than boys. The book says many things that I think girls need to hear. I wouldn't let my 10 yo read it, but I am buying copies to give my nieces as they turn 17ish.
And Lady M, next time I see ya, you can borrow it!
