• Sep. 3, 2009 - This is simply wrong (update

{updated} Apparently, there is another event happening next Tuesday - President Obama is going to speak to the students across the country!  This was sent out to the schools in a local district:
http://www.kmsd.edu/files/calendar/PresidentObamamsg1.pdf
-----------------
From what I understand, this is being shown in the public schools classrooms.  A bunch of celebrities stating they are pledging to do what Obama tells them - to be  a SERVANT to our president.  Specifically President Obama (well, until we see the real deal anyway).  Before you get your back up and tell me that this is wonderful and that you voted for Obama (and of course, you hated Bush - don't get me wrong - I was not exactly thrilled with some of the stuff pulled during his 2nd term),  what if the tables were turned - WHAT IF this had been shown to your children and it was pro-Bush (or any other conservative president).  Being a volunteer is just that - voluntary.  If it is "mandatory" it is no longer voluntary, it is simply working for free....

• Aug. 17, 2009 - How to be a Hepburn in a Hilton World

I saw them interviewing the author of this book on the television this morning while I was making the bed in my room (yes, I actually watched something, lol!).  ANYWAY - while several books have been written regarding modesty, tastefulness, etc. from Christian point of view, it is a much smaller number that have been written from a secular point of view.

I have not read this book yet (obviously - it is brand new on the market), but I hope to sooner rather than later.  However, I was able to read a few sample pages on Amazon and it looks very fun and very interesting.  If they can get this out in the front of bookstores and in bookstore windows, we might have a chance at not having to see everybody's personal pieces and parts (IYKWIM).  Well - if any of them can tear themselves away from their texting before they walk into a pole....

• Jun. 24, 2009 - Urgent Action Plea from Mike Farris

Dear Friend of Parental Rights,

Monday in a Harlem middle school, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice told a group of 120 students that administration officials are actively discussing “when and how it might be possible to join”  (that is, ratify) the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).  As before, she also communicated what a disgrace it is that the U.S. would stand with only Somalia against such a widely-accepted treaty.

This is the first direct public statement by the Obama administration that it will seek ratification of the UN CRC.

In my 30 years of political involvement, I have learned to recognize this as what is called a “trial balloon.” Like in World War I trench warfare, our opponents have “sent up a balloon” to see if it will draw fire. If things remain quiet, they will proceed with their plans to push for ratification of the CRC in the U.S. Senate.

To discourage them from doing so, we need to make sure that our voices are heard with unmistakable clarity.  We must let the Obama administration know that we oppose this anti-family, anti-American treaty.

Here’s what we need you all to do:

1.      Call the White House comments line at 202-456-1111. Tell them you heard the administration wants to ratify the CRC, and you strongly oppose this giving away of U.S. sovereignty to the UN. Also keep in mind that this treaty gives the government jurisdiction to override any decision made by any parent if the government thinks that a better decision can be made—even if there is no proof of any harm.

2.      Call Ambassador Susan Rice’s office at the United Nations. Tell her that you want her to represent the United States to the world rather than trying to get the United States to go along with international law initiated by the UN.  Her office number is 212-415-4000.

3.      Contact your Senators and urge them to oppose ratification of this treaty. (Find your Senators’ contact information by typing your zip code into the box here.) Ask them also to defeat it once and for all by cosponsoring SJRes 16 – the Parental Rights Amendment.

It is very important that we speak up right now.  Please call before you close this email!

Sincerely,

Michael Farris

Sinful Sensitivity -The sensitivity to not offend is a symptom of this hedonistic generation. The last virtue of a wicked society is tolerance. A sinner will throw away all the Bible, but still quote, "Judge not that ye be not judged." Michael Pearl

• Apr. 23, 2009 - An interesting reason our country is at where it is at....

I read this in an article in my most recent newletter from Zola Levitt.  For those who want to read the article I pulled this quote from, go here:  Zola Levitt Ministries - the article is on page 13  - Return Offensive Leadership to the Church.

The gist of it is that shoddy teaching from the pulpit has a large bearing on why our country is at this crossroads of horrid immorality (and why most do not care that it is sin, let alone know what sin is or that they should care).  We have recently attended church services (not our own church, btw) where the scripture, when put into context, had nothing to do at ALL with the topic the pastor was preaching on.  We are thankful that we take our Bibles to church with us.  My dh and I could only just look at each other and shake our heads.   So, my challenge to you is this - take your Bible to church with you.  Look up the scriptures as the pastor uses them in the sermon or at least write them down and go home and look them up later and see, if in context, the scripture actually relates to the topic of the day.

Did your pastor tickle your ears and preach what you wanted to hear - a feel good sermon with no substance? (don't give me the fluff about people seeking Jesus not understanding if it is not a simple sermon - if it is a good sermon, they will want to know more about Him, not about interpersonal relations, the Bible and you.....KWIM?)  Or did your pastor preach an expository sermon.  You felt drawn to your Bible and you knew HE was there - simply because the full Word of God was being taught.

Anyway, the quote in the article (fully worth the read) is from Charles G Finney - 1873.  You can read the whole thing HERE.  But here is the quote (before I rambling my non-sleeping self silly, lol!):

Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits. If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree. If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it. If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it. If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it. If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it. Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals
of this nation.

• Apr. 13, 2009 - New Preamble to the Constitution

I got this in my inbox this morning.  It was too good not to post.  There are sooo many topics here that are right on target it is not even funny.  Many are topics I have been wanting to write on, but have not had the brain power lately to remember what it was I wanted write about, lol!  So, I will probably use this as my jumping off point.  And, if anyone is offended after reading this or anything I write about it later, I refer you to Article I….

NEW PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION

"We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal bed-wetters. We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights."

ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful; do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes ..

ARTICLE VYou do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VIYou do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. '

ARTICLE IXYou do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from! (Lastly....)

ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!

• Mar. 21, 2009 - Protecting our Daughters with Appropriate Modesty post

Lady Lydia has a fabulous entry on how/why we should be protecting our daughters in how they dress.  She also has links to several other blogs on there as well (some of which I have read in the past and are excellent).  Lady Lydia presents this topic in a wonderful way.  I hope you will make the effort to go read all of it and perhaps some of the other blogs as well.  It is always good to have such a wonderful a reminder!

Oh - and you can go HERE and print out the Modesty Quiz from Revive Our Hearts - see what you do or do not know.
