Herons and Grouse

A couple of weeks ago I shot these pics of some of the herons that have created a rookery at the bottom of our road.  Every April we start looking for them, and sure enough they come and spend the spring with us, lay their eggs and hang out until the young are old enough to move on with them.  It is always thrilling to watch.

Next, we have another spring visitor, well, in this case it is actually a couple.  These sage grouse come each spring and court one another.  The male is the one all decked out.  The female is the one you can hardly see in the pics because she is so well camouflaged.

I hope you enjoyed my Show and Tell Friday.  For more like these, you can join Mary at www.homeschoolblogger.com/canadagirl.

Disclaimer:  My 11 yo dd Mountain Princess wanted me to be sure and tell you all that she is the one who took the pics of the sage grouses.

What AMAZING pics !!! Isn't it like a male to show off his stuff. lttn

You two did a great job on the pics. You would think they were from a magazine ! I can't believe how many nests there are. ((eyes bugging out))

Thank you for sharing with us ((hugs))

Wow that is so neat. We have heron's were we live but I've never ever seen a nest. And the grouse male is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Your daughter did an excellent job with the photos. I wish we lived in the country and were able to see all the wildlife like that.

I LOVE these pics. Herons in trees; grouse about the place. We have wild turkeys and quail around our place in the Okanogan. Aren't they fun to just sit and watch? :-)

Your daughter did a great job getting some really close up pictures and with his wings spread, too!
We have a heron that comes here, but I've never got that close to get a good picture like you did.
