Count it all Joy!

Some of y’all have commented about your own loss after my post yesterday about Faith.  It is special to me to have a kindred bond with you.  I have to admit, I went almost all day long before I realized what day it was.  We were busy, and I honestly just forgot.  When I got home yesterday, I pulled out my plastic bin that holds the memories of her short time with us.  I looked through the pictures, read the cards, held her little hat and shed a few tears.  Then it all went back for next year.

There are days when I see a girl her age and wonder “what if?” but I don’t dwell on my loss; rather, I feel so blessed to have gone through that trial in my life.  Our God is Faithful.  At that moment in my life, when my husband and I could have been at our lowest, God was there as our Comfort and Peace.  We have been able to minister to others in ways I could never have imagined.  I did not plan to have any more children after that pregnancy, happy with my one boy and one girl, but He changed my focus.  I have four beautiful children here on earth to enjoy and one safely in the arms of Jesus!

Our pastor’s sermon today was one of my favorite passages:  James 1:2-3, 12:  My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience…Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Count it ALL joy!

And now for some joyful news:  Our dear friends are adopting a baby from Africa.  They just found out that they have a placement of a baby and may have the child home before the end of the year!  I feel like a proud aunt as we were fortunate enough to be a part of their referral process.  I have tears in my eyes writing this.  Verse 17 of James says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.”

Thank you Father for the gift of children!  Thank you for this Joy!

~Faith’s Hand~

I couldn’t see one step ahead

“I might as well be blind, “ I said,

But Faith said: “Walk along with me

I’ll lead so you don’t have to see.”

I took Faith’s hand—it was no fraud,

For Faith was holding the hand of God.

Psalm 46

Psalm 46

1 God is our refuge and strength,
         A very present help in trouble.
    2 Therefore we will not fear,
         Even though the earth be removed,
         And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
    3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,
         Though the mountains shake with its swelling.  Selah

    4 There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God,
         The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High.
    5 God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved;
         God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.
    6 The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved;
         He uttered His voice, the earth melted.

    7 The LORD of hosts is with us;
         The God of Jacob is our refuge.  Selah

    8 Come, behold the works of the LORD,
         Who has made desolations in the earth.
    9 He makes wars cease to the end of the earth;
         He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two;
         He burns the chariot in the fire.

    10 Be still, and know that I am God;
         I will be exalted among the nations,
         I will be exalted in the earth!

    11 The LORD of hosts is with us;
         The God of Jacob is our refuge.  Selah

What If ...?

My heart is heavy today.  My oldest and I are going through Sonlight’s Core 200.  Our reading includes the 100 Most Important Events in Christian History, From Jerusalem to Irian Jaya and What if Jesus Had Never Been Born ?

Stories of Faith, of Martyrs…

To read about all the Christian martyrs while seeing the devastation caused by Katrina compels me to want to do something.  Help somewhere.  I know I can pray or send money.

But is that enough?

I read the newspaper accounts of suffering and death and I’m brought to tears.   Children who are dying due to dehydration, Fighting over food, looting, killing one’s own sister over a bag of ice—

Heartbreaking…

I’ve seen the newscast of the Southern Baptist Convention providing food and water for those displaced; people opening their homes to strangers; home school organizations collecting to help our fellow sojourners who have lost everything, firefighters coming from Minnesota for rescue efforts and as an NBC newscaster remarked, “the best of humanity revealed in the worst of times.”

Compassion…

In the book, What if Jesus Had Never Been Born, by D. James Kennedy, my reading today spoke of compassion and mercy.  In the time before Christ, “there is no trace of any organized charitable effort.”   After Christ came, the early Christians reached out to everyone, believers and non-believers.  It was unheard of that people would help one another purely out of the goodness in their hearts.  In the Middle Ages and beyond, Christian charity continued to be extended until today…and whether they want to acknowledge it or not, “all charity points back to Jesus Christ.”

What if He had NOT come?

Would I want to be here?

Would you?

Thank You Jesus for coming into this world.

Without You, how lost I would be.
