Lovely Easter Day

Our day started by dragging ourselves out of bed after only 5 or 6 hours of sleep. We got up, got everyone ready and headed to church. The girls were especially difficult to wake up as they did not fall asleep very early the night before. Apparently, Gracie decided to read all about the Easter story in her bible aloud to Millie. Do you punish a child for that when she should've been sleeping!? LOL! She recounted the entire story, from the Last Supper, to praying in the garden, Judas' betrayal to Jesus' death and resurrection. I decided to let it slide. ;)

Gracie did not receive my thick hair gene. She has very thin, pin-straight but beautiful blonde hair. I put the girls' hair in hot rollers and while Millie's stayed curly for a while, Gracie's started to go limp the moment we stepped out into the cold, humid air. I decided to snap a few shots of my children while they still looked freshly groomed, so while DH was loading up the van, I took them out in our yard to take some pics. My attempts were thwarted, however, by a two year old who thought it would be quite funny to hop like an Easter bunny while mom tried to photograph the group.

Here he is, entertaining his siblings with his incredible, bunny-like hopping ability:

And unfortunately, the best shot of the bunch:

And speaking of bunnies...

My in-laws went to church with us and our service was wonderful. All of my children sat with us and were very good during church. Yay! After the pastor and his son did a great Abraham and Isaac skit, the choir put on a cantata. It was very nice and we really enjoyed it. The only thing I really missed is they didn't involve children this year. Usually they at least have children parade around during some songs waving palm branches or something.

Anyway, back to rabbits....Did I ever mention how much of a girlie-girl Gracie is? She's all about pretty things and dressing fancy-schmancy and princesses. After church, we started on over to my folks' house for Easter dinner. On the way we passed a small farm where roosters and chickens and a beautiful BIG bunny rabbit were wandering about. Gracie noticed the bunny and said, "A rabbit! Mom, could we have..." and I'll pause there for a second and say that both DH & I thought the question was going to end with "could we have a rabbit?" But no. She shocked us with, "Mom, could we have rabbit stew for dinner sometime?" What?!?! Where did that come from, girlie-girl? You see a cute fluffy bunny and it makes you want to eat it for dinner?!!? Maybe all those Little House books?

I really wanted to take the children to the water and get some pics of them there, however, that was a half hour drive in the opposite direction of my parents house, so we stopped along the way at the Discovery Trail. After getting a coffee, of course. It's what we Pacific Northwesterners do on cold days when you've only had 5 hours of sleep. Our favorite little coffee shop gives Tootsie Rolls to the children passengers in your vehicle, and Josiah knows this. "Eee ow" (Tootsie Roll) But the thought of a chocolate covered face and possibly Easter clothes just before pics convinced me to make them wait until after pics till they got their Tootsie Rolls.

Josiah was not pleased with this decision and was still pouting by the time we got there. In fact, he retreated to his safe place, with thumb in mouth and hand in pants. All he wanted was his Ee Ow, sheesh.

As we were walking, Alek saw a snake slithering around in the grass. DH caught it and Miss Girlie-Girl (should I change her title?!) wanted to hold it.

A semi-decent pic of all 5:

The children were so excited to get to their Mima's house. My brother and his family are living there so that meant getting to see their three cousins! They were very hyper and spazzy. Here my older boys both think they're cute with their Popeye faces while my girls are posing ballerinas and the two year old, well, I don't know what this recent fascination is about putting his hands down his pants.

This photo better shows their energy level:

So we finally make it to my parents house and the children want to do the whole Easter egg hunt thing right away. We hid Resurrection Eggs along with the hard boiled and plastic candy-filled eggs in the yard and let 'em loose.

My parents:

Alek and Gabe with cousin Madisyn after the egg hunt:

Our dinner was delicious! Ham, twice baked potatoes, green beans, baked bean casserole, rolls.... and then birthday cake for my grandma, who will be 89 on the 18th of this month!

Scarlett, my beautiful niece, really enjoyed her cake:

She really is beautiful. She was sitting on the bed in her sister's room, watching a movie and I just had to snap some pics of her (yes, it's a bit of an obsession.)

My parents put together Easter baskets for their grandchildren. They had all sorts of fun things in there, including bubbles!

Millie blowing her bubbles:

My little nephew Gage (2) with his bubble blower (I couldn't decide which one I liked better):

We all had a wonderful time. We got home pretty late last night and Sunday is the day I usually fill out my school schedule for the week. I did NOT feeling like doing that when we got home and here I've spent an hour blogging and I still have no school schedule. And it's Monday. A school day. What am I thinking?! Off to get busy. :)

If you are obsessed with taking pictures, I am obsessed with looking at them! I love looking at the pictures you take! I loved them all! Your boys are so handsome and your girls are so pretty! I cannot believe your girlie-girl held the snake! I cringe when my oldest dd holds a lizard which is actually a blessing when one gets in our house here in FL! I would have a fit if it were a snake - even a harmless one!

So glad you had a wonderful time with your family! Now I had better go to bed because tomorrow is a school day too! :) Blessings, Eva

P.S. I forgot to take a picture of my girls Sunday! We even dressed for the 7AM Sonrise Service! I will try to post one in a few Sundays when they were their dresses again! :)

I love your pictures! They are so cute!!!! Your children are adorable!! Geesh, I got so side tracked by your pictures, I almost forgot what I was going to say. You asked about the Literature Guides. I'm assuming your talking about the one from Freebird Lit. because it was the only one I saw. I do not have that particular one, but I have their 12 guide combo which has similar books, so I am assuming they are pretty much alike. I have not used any of them yet, but I went back and looked at Anne of Green Gable, Pollyanna , and Narnia as a reference. How good they are kinda depends on what you are wanting. The ones I looked at were mostly Comprehension questions and vocabulary questions for each chapter. They had a variety of true and false, fill in blank and such. There were a few activites but not many. Most of them were like write a poem, do a creative writing thing, do some research. Only one of them had a craft that I saw, for Narnia they had them make a clay sculpture. Basically, what I saw was a workbook with a few extras. If you are looking for a heavily hands on unit study, you probably will not be happy with it. If you are just wanting some questions to gage comprehension, then it might be what you want. Hope this helps.

So glad you had a nice Easter. We had sun in the a.m. but a cold wind, then rain in the afternoon. Ahh, springtime in the NW! Your photos don't always appear fully on my computer but from what I did see, they turned out great! Thanks for sharing your kids and your talent with us. Have a great week!

Your pictures are stunning!! What beautiful children! Would you mind telling me what kind of camera you are using? Our digital (which wasn't that great to begin with) has bit the dust, and I am researching what to get next...when I've saved up my pennies.

when I wrote my comment! Sorry the lizard part did not make sense. I mean it is a blessing when my oldest dd is willing to catch a lizard when one sneaks in our porch or Mamaw's porch! :)

Congrats on being nominated in the awards! So glad you reminded me of your title. It does get confusing! Maybe we could suggest that next year the title and the login both be listed. Anyway, I voted for you!

Thanks for the note of encouragement! I am scared to weigh in this morning! There was a lot chocolate around the house this week and I didn't buy any of it! :) Of course I did eat it! :P

Have a blessed day! Love, Eva

I am so thrilled you were nominated for the homeschool blog awards! I definitely voted for you and who wouldn't after seeing how artistic you are! What gorgeous Easter pictures! They turned out so well. I don't blame you for not having any energy to prepare for the school week. I hope your week is going well.

Love those color-coordinated outfits, and as always, your pics are wonderful. I used to enjoy dressing my kids (& their parents!) in color-coordinated outfits for holidays & sometimes just for church. Now I'm just happy if they wear something halfway nice. This Easter, I had to be at church an hour early for choir practice. Before I left, I had to have the usual clothing debates w/the daughters. (Ygr one wants to wear a sundress even tho it is 32 degrees out. Teenager can't seem to come up w/anything that isn't either too black for Easter or too strappy for church. *sigh*) Then, too late, I realized I 'd forgotten to put Spaz' clothes out for him. He came in the right shirt, wrong pants. I managed to keep it from ruining my morning.

Oh, and the hands-in-the-pants thing... I have pics of my #3 in that pose also- it was a common thing for him. I think it was more a matter of having a comfy resting place for his hand than it was playing with anything! What was worse was when he was a (nursing) toddler riding around on my hip w/ his hand in my shirt! That was a common comfort thing for him, too. My friends all thought it was funny and my hubby was more than a little jealous. ;-)
