Okay, I first have to say that sometimes living in a small town can be a little frustrating. There is only one OB in town, the one I've been seeing about all of this stuff, and he's on vacation until July 16th. If you looked in our phone book, you'd see other physicians listed under OB's, but all [but this one] are actually family physicians or WAAAAAY out of town. Anyway. The doctor's nurse called me with my test results today, and I am thankful that she didn't make me wait until July 16th, but one result has caused me a little bit of (probably unecessary) panic and she wasn't able to interpret the results.
To recap which tests I had done, they were a fasting glucose, TSH, thyroid antibody panel, lupus anticoagulant, thrombophilia screen panel and a anticardiolipin titer. Everything came back fine except two.
Surprisingly, my TSH was 0.98 (normal range is around 0.5-5.1, depending on the lab.) I have been on thyroid medication for 11 years now and my doses have fluctuated quite a bit, usually needing to be INcreased. I've been on a lower dose than normal for a long time now- maybe close to a year. So I keep expecting my TSH to go up, which would indicate the need for a higher dose of thyroid supplement. But instead, it's going down. They may even have to DEcrease my dose yet again! Which is good news, really. But I've been losing a ton of hair, been super tired (gee, couldn't have anything to do with being a mother of 5?!) and I have another symptom or two of HYPOthyroidism. I cannot lose weight. So that surprised me.
What DIDN'T surprise me, however, was that one of the abnormal results was the thyroid antibody panel. The normal range for that test is <35 and mine came back at 142. But seeing as that the treatment usually includes thyroid supplementation (or to at least keep an eye on you to see if/when you will need to be supplemented), we've already got that base covered. I have my TSH checked a few times per year at least.
The other abnormal result, that initially had me a little freaked because it is included in the lupus screening panel, was the PTT. The PTT, simply put, measures the amount of time it takes for your blood to clot. They want it less than 40, but if it clots too quickly, it could indicate a blood clotting disorder and is also a marker for lupus. Mine came back at 47 seconds, which actually means my blood's on the "thin" side and takes a bit longer to clot than normal. And from what I've read so far, if your blood had to be sent away to a lab, rather than the test being performed on site immediately, that could affect the results. Well, I know that this had to be sent out, so I'm hoping that's why it's abnormal. I don't bleed or bruise easily, so... I dunno.
So my own conclusion of these results is that these miscarriages were probably just random, unfortunate, genetic abnormalities, which is the most common cause of miscarriage anyway. I'll find out the "official" opinion when I go in on July 16th though.
On another note, yesterday my hubby and I celebrated FOURTEEN years of marriage! And I love the guy even more than the day I married him. He's the best husband ever and I'm so thankful for him. We went and saw a movie and then went to a yummy little restaurant called Fireside Grill. I had cherry planked salmon and he had New York steak. It was yummy! Then we went and got a coffee and went and sat down by the water for a half hour or so. It was cold! We had a nice evening.....besides the little incident we found out about when we got home involving Josiah, who had just woken up from a nap and was quite upset that we were leaving. He walked to the ROAD where a neighbor who was getting her mail (in her CAR) saw him and walked him back to our house! She said he wanted his mommy. Ahhhhhhhhhhh! I very rarely leave my children with anyone other than Kenton (they were with my parents) and that still has me very disturbed. VERY disturbed. Luckily the speed limit on our gravel dead-end-road, off of a dead end road is only 10 MPH and there are only about 8 people that live on it...... I asked Josiah later why he walked to the road and he said, "I wanted you!" *sniff* |

That sounds like a wonderful time with your dh!! Happy Anniversary!
Yikes about your son walking down the road. What a scary way to end your date. Hugs to you-I know I'd still be a wreck over that.
I'm so glad you found some letterbox clues near you!! I hope you'll post your adventures when you go. I can't wait to hear how your kids like it.
Have a wonderful day. Holly
