Wordless Wednesday: Gertie Giggles?

*I have to add here that today marks DAY TWO of Josiah's being completely free for the entire day! WOO-HOO!

Have you seen any of the Spy Kids movies? We actually own all 3, and we don't purchase "kid's" movies very often. They have to be pretty good to actually buy. They are really great family movies. No cussing, some crude humor, but not bad, and really promote family closeness. The only negative I can think of is when Alek, a couple of years ago, repeated a line from the movie in front of grandma. "Oh, shiiiiiiiiiiitake s." He thought it was funny and she was shocked! However, he didn't even know the word it's so similar to (I still don't think he does!)- so he didn't "get" it. He just thought it was a funny line from the movie. I explained that to her after he'd left the room. He hasn't repeated it since.

Anyway, this is one of the few photos I took of my other children at the beach on our Flat Stanley outing (that I mentioned in the "organize toys" post a while back). When I saw it, it reminded me of a scene from Spy Kids (can't remember which one!) of a flying Gertie Giggles and her twirling pigtails.

And I'll just throw this one in because I love the sun flares and back (or is it side?) lighting of Gracie as we were leaving.

Hi Alyssa,

You know, I look at your pictures and quite simply long for the ocean and water. I grew up in the cradle of the Great Lakes, with my grandparents owning a home on an inland lake that we spent each and every summer at. Don't get me wrong, Arizona has lakes (at least 3 nice ones within an hour of our home), but I long for WATER. Being land-locked, you should have seen us all (especially DH and I) when we went to California last month. We stood on the beach, closed our eyes, and just breathed in the wonderful salty air. We find ourselves done with the desert; it was an experiment that for us did not take. No regrets, just fun in the planning of 'where to go next.' (It makes it a little more difficult to pick up and go again considering that all of my family moved out here as well, but that was their choice, I suppose, and I shouldn't take resonsibility. I'm trying not to.) I told Paul what you said; that we should move up by you, and he agreed it's a consideration. We would love to experience the Pacific Northwest (I lived there once as a child, in a tiny little town in Central WA), England, the mid-Eastern states, Alaska, wherever his job will transfer to. Considering his employer has over 150,000 jobs in more than 80 countries, that shouldn't be too difficult. Friends of ours just moved to Whidby Island last year; it's nice to know people we 'know' are everywhere.

Somewhere along the way I lost the thread of what I began to say, but I guess that's the way it goes. :) Have a lovely day, and I'll chat with you again soon!

love,
Shani

I love your pics. The first one looks like she's actually jumping off the cliff. And I love the second one. You're right, the lighting is perfect on her hair.

May. 22, 2008 - Good Morning, My Friend!

As I sit here this morning, the hundred and teens are gone, replaced by a cooling breeze and rain clouds - a rare sight in the Sonoran Desert where I live. I *love* these days, and while I long for more unpredictable weather, it isn't without knowledge and experience of a less-than-sunny climate. I'm from Michigan, and boy oh boy do I know about volatile weather, lol! I understand what you're saying, though, and recognize it as the truth: moving to such a different (i.e. less than sunny all the bloody time) climate would be a re-adjustment, but it's one we crave to make. I horribly miss the seasons, and feeling in touch with the earth. I read recently a good description of our weather here: almost summer, summer, not-quite-summer, and Christmas. If that doesn't sum it up, I don't know what does. My longing for a change in climate comes with the knowledge that there will be quite a bit less sunshine wherever we go, and I am content with that. Thank you, though, for your kind and gentle reminder!

Have a wonderful day, Alyssa!
love,
Shani
