Everyone Needs A Boost Every Now And Then

My entire family is not out and about in the general public often, where certain standards of behavior are expected (except church, co-op). When we go out, it's usually for a walk or to the beach or wherever- places where children aren't expected to sit and be quiet.

Yesterday we all went out to see Prince Caspian. It's a 2 hour, 20 minute long movie. I will admit I was little worried about how Josiah would do, but they did great, all of them.

As we were exiting the theater, this lady and her husband caught up to us and said, "I just have to tell you. You have the most beautiful family! Your children were so well behaved! It's just so nice to see a family like yours these days!"

Of course Kenton & I both smiled and thanked her but if she only knew what a boost to the soul those words were! Frequently, it's quite obvious by the looks on people's faces that our large family doesn't meet their approval (who asked them, anyway?), even when the children are at their best behavior. So to hear something like that from a complete stranger was a very, very nice change. May we all think about how our words and actions affect others.

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24

Reckless words pierce like a sword. Proverbs 12:18a

It's always a blessing to hear such comments! I always try to let my kids know when someone says kind words & thank them for their behavior. I'll have to remember to comment the next family that I see that deserves one.... just knowing how encouraging it is to hear! Thanks for the reminder.

I'm a brand new blogger and I've really enjoyed reading your blog. I have 5 children - 2 girls and 3 boys. Our oldest was only 6 when we had our fifth child. I know very well what 'crazy busy' is. It is fun and encouraging to read about others' experiences who have been there. I also know about the 'looks' from the general public who disapprove of our large family - and the difference it makes when we receive a compliment regarding our children from a total stranger. It lifts me up and helps me continue to plug onward and upward. How much a positive word can do. I look forward to reading more.............. Becky

That was so nice! It is nice to hear those kinds of words especially when often you are given the other looks. Who cares how many kids someone has! We have a two large family's in our church, one with 5 kids and one with 6 and they are amazing! One kid, 10 kids I think it's wonderful all the way around!

Hi--I jumped on your blog from the MOH II loop. I so appreciated your candid comments about Catherine, Called Birdy. I'm loving your blog, and your pictures are BEAUTIFUL! I love photography, but I know nothing--that's someplace I'd really like to grow. I'll have to dig into your blog and see what tips you have. I think I might need more than a point-and-shoot, though, and then some idea of how to use it. Hmmmm. Thanks for sharing your life!
