Nesting. Big Time. (and some warm weather pics)

Posted in PhotoBlogging
Nothing at all exciting about this post, but I just want to keep track of the things I've gotten done lately.

School Related
  • input grades into Homeschool Tracker for the rest of the year (a week early- they are going to have a very light week this week)
  • compiled lists of all books the children read, the books I read aloud to them, memory verses memorized, workbooks completed this year and added a note what level they last completed in Spelling Power and Calculadder
  • printed all of above off and included a copy of our school schedule; filed it in my "records" binder
  • went through the children's binders and pulled their work that was a good representative of what they've done this year for their "portfolio". Saved all history and science notebook pages (love those).
  • took the former (above) to Office Depot to have spiral bound for each child. Used the pages they decorated at the beginning of the year as their cover page. They LOVED looking these over on the drive home.
  • printed off new pages for the children to color related to next year's curriculum; they color these and slide them in the front of their clear-view binders (and I'll use these next year as their portfolio cover page) Here's Alek's as an example (with our last name smudged out). They each pick what they want to color on their page. Of course Alek has to pick a picture with a catapult onager (I stand corrected by my 11 year old):

Home Related (short list, big jobs)

  • cleaned and organized linen closet
  • shampooed carpets; our home is almost 2600 square feet and mostly carpeted, including stairs (did those too). That took me almost all day yesterday, mostly because you have to prep them first (pick up, vacuum, spot clean, etc.)
  • cleaned up the computer desk area, where things seem to accumulate behind the computer monitors
  • cleaned up school bookshelves (I do this weekly- they get messy)
That's all! Short but time consuming list!

And then just have to add one of my goofball boy from last Saturday, when it got to be 84 degrees out here. My children spent that entire day playing outside. By the way, on the potty training front, he had 3 good potty training days in a row (2 accidents the 3rd day) and then 2 really bad days and yesterday was another good day, with just 1 accident.

And heck, may as well add some of my other children, minus Alek who didn't spend much time on the Slip & Slide thing they rigged up (so didn't get a pic of him). I have to add too that we are on well water. Our water is absolutely yummy. I LOVE our water. We could bottle it and sell it. Seriously. It is also VERY VERY COLD. Which is nice when you want a nice, cold glass of water to drink- no ice needed! However, when all you are wanting to do is cool down a little, it can be a bit shocking to the system.

Gracie (in her new modest bathing suit that I don't mind sharing on the web!)

Millie, whose lips turned blue after a while.

Gabe.

And I guess you can't tell from any of these pics how they rigged up their Slip N' Slide. They put it at the bottom of the slide, and boy did they FLY when they hit bottom! Josiah didn't try it.

We had beautiful weather yesterday too. I hope it's an indication of what our summer's going to be like!

May. 25, 2008 - Happy Sunday!

Hi Alyssa!

Just came to your site to send you a personal email, and saw that you had updated. Love the pics, as usual! And Gracie's bathing suit is adorable!!

Way to go on getting your home in order! You are inspiring me, big time! Usually Sunday is a day of rest here, but I may make an exception today, seeing as how 1) I'm motivated by *you*, and 2) I don't seem to have any time during the week.

Okay, off to write you a note to ask a question...
Love,
Shani

Well I guess it's time for you to be nesting. You're due in early July, right? So that actually means mid-June for you, right? So you've only got a couple more week to go.

Love the pics & the girls' suits! Cute!! Did I ever show you my vacation pics from last year where you can see what I swim in?

I still don't understand how on earth you manage to be that organized and get that much done, along with homeschooling/caring for 6 kids and nurturing your photography hobby. *Sigh* I know-- you guys have 27-hour days, don't you? I was always told that we'd "gain 3 hours going out to the west coast", and hanks to you, I finally figured out what that means! I am going to consider moving west so that *I* can have those 27-hour days and get lots and lots done like you.

:-)

Where did you get your suits? I love them. I also need new sun shirts for my boys this year. Did you order yours or get it locally. I went out looking today and couldn't find any....

Love the pictures of the kids and the slip and slide, what fun! And lady, you have really gotten a lot of things done lately, you make me guilty of being abit lazy. :-( I guess I better get more with it. Things here are good, crazy with pitching my daughter's book, check it out on my blog if you'd like, we are all excited! Looks and sounds like your house is going along quite well. I really love your method of binding the kids' work at the end of the year, great advice! Hugs!

Hey sweetie!
You do inspire many of us with fewer children than you, ya know.. :) I love the idea of binding kids' work at the end of the year in a portfolio. Great idea. I have an office max about 2 miles away, so I shall consider that one. My boys would love it.
LOVED this update. I think after my morning coffee I'll go shampoo my steps upstairs(the ones I"ve been trying to get done for the past 3 days!)
Love and Hugs-
