The Hardest Thing About Having Six Children....

Posted in PhotoBlogging
Wait. Six!? That sounds like so many! I guess it is to some people's standards. If you'd have told me 15 years ago that I'd have 6 children right now, I wouldn't have believed you. That wasn't the original plan. But as I've learned quite well over the years, God's plans trump ours each and every time. And it's amazing how much God can change our hearts as we grow and mature. Of course I wouldn't have believed you if you'd have told me I'd be a homeschooling mother either...

Anyway. I was certain that Julianna would arrive before the 4th of July. So certain was I that I had purchased coordinating 4th of July outfits for the children to wear, including an outfit for Julianna. Little did I know that I'd be giving birth to her that morning and the evening of the 4th would be spent in the hospital (with an awesome view of the city's fireworks display, might I add). So I set their 4th of July outfits aside and waited for a free day to take their pics- I wanted a coordinated-outfits sibling picture.

Okay, anyway. So. The hardest thing about having six children? Easy. Trying to take a picture of all 6 children. Hands down. I probably took 30+ shots of the whole group and I only cared for one. And I only "cared for" that one because after looking through 30+ shots of Josiah sucking his thumb or looking mopey or _____'s eyes closed or _______ (fill in the blank), I didn't feel like trying again. (ever?) So I just settled for the one halfway decent picture. Oh well. Up until today, I did not have ONE single picture of all of my children together. Now I do.

And this is how I felt when we were done:

So here it is. I know Josiah's got a funny look on his face and that he isn't even looking my way and he's got his Napolean look going on (he likes to suck his thumb & stick his other hand in his shirt/under his arm! LOL!), but at least his thumb isn't in his mouth & he's not looking down at the ground like he was in several of the other shots. Right? And Julianna's eyes are closed, but at least she's not crying. Can you even see her? Is she camouflaged into Gracie's dress? The bow. Follow the bow. The bow will help you navigate to her location. :) My babies. It amazes me sometimes that I gave birth to such a crowd. LOL!

Here are the two big sisters by themselves:

And with their new (temporarily grumpy) baby sister:

And my boys. So cool that the "teams" are even now. :)

Please excuse my ramblings- major brain fog has taken over here. Over and out.

Those are the greatest pictures! Sometimes it's sweeter if it's just a natural and raw picture showing our moods! I love it! Your little guy with the glasses and his dimples are the cutest thing I have ever seen!

Wow that is so neat you got to see the fireworks from your hospital room.

Hi girly! :)
As a photographer you know I know it has to be a HUGE feat to capture all 6 together... clients think we have magic powers when we are 'professional' photographers. LOL
Did you see my pronounciation question... about whether AN in her name is like hand or in wand? :)
I need to email you directly... have a few questions!!!

What a blessing! Joshua totaly remembers the kids. He rememebrs the whole zoo trip, sharing the stroller and Josiah's fore head ouchie. We wants to invite Josiah to his birthday-funny boy! And he thinks Josiah has a very pretty new baby!

You are amazing getting them all photographed together.

Well I have friends (my midwife) and her family made a joke with the photo's after baby 6 or 8 or so...she is up to 10...or 11 now. Well anywho they did a family photo of the kids homeschooling some on the floor, some at desks. Mom leaning over a desk to help with baby in tow and a kid pulling on her leg. And near her her husband is building something boyish with one of the boys! And the family dog running around. It was just too cute...I wonder if they just let life roll to get that picture and did not even bother with posing.

Girl I must ask how do you get your background blurry all the time. I have tried and tried and the only time it seems to work is if I get real close to the object! It might just be my camera...I just had to ask.

I'm amazed you had things together enough to get those matching outfits before #6 arrived! Wow. I never would have made that happen, lol! Love the photos and especially the crazy face :o)

You did a great job with these. I think trying to get my four is hard too. Especially if you add my hubbie into the photo. He hates when I try to get the whole family unless it's very impromptu! I love that huge bow in Julianna's hair (well, maybe on her head, not in her hair)....I definitely used it to find her. Sweet little munchkin. You don't know how badly I'd like to hold her. I LOVE babies!!!!! And I feel as is I've known her for a long time as she's grown in your tummy!!!
I'm looking forward to lots more photos.

I have 6 kids - four of them boys and taking a family picture is VERY STRESSFUL!!. Why can't they all just smile and look at the camera for a few minutes? Nope, it just doesn't happen. :)

Nice pics, both here & in the previous post. You could always switch Josiah's head in Photoshop, in all your spare time. :-)

I am catching up on my blog-reading after our vacation. I have already gone thru & played with my 600+ vacation pics (oh, it was great to have 2 big memory cards & a laptop along!), so now it's internet time.

As if you needed one more thing to do: One of these days you need to update that description in your sidebar.

I asked for some photo-sharing advice on my blog today. If you get a minute (which I know isn't likely these days!) could you take a look and share advice? if you don't have time, that's OK-- I totally understand!!!!!

I love that you had such faith to buy Julianna's outfit for the 4th..that's great! :) Those patriotic pictures are super-cute! Even if Josiah wasn't in his most photogenic mood.
Julianna's bow is adorable.
And I can only imagine the FOG you're in, sistah. I feel like I"m still in the post-baby fog and I'm 9 months out and it's "only" my 4th. :)
You're doing a great job balancing it all from what I can see here in blogville(and from what I know of you) ;)

Of course you have been here, but I couldn't see your wonderful pictures until today! Yeah, my DH fixed my computer! Your children are so precious! I love the boys outfits for the day (not exactly matching but coordinating) and then the girls in the matching out fit with baby sister! So sweet!

Memaw bought the dresses for my girls. She wanted all four alike, but it was kind of nice as two and two.

Well I am off to check out all the other photos I missed in the passed several months! So glad you are all well. I am sure that Julianna will become a pro at smiling for the camera soon enough! :)

Have a wonderful week! My week will be full of catching up on all that school we carried with us, but didn't do while in VA! :)

Love, Eva

I would have never guessed that I would have had six children, either!
And your so right about pictures. I remember a few years ago we had pictures taken for Christmas cards and out of a hundred some poses, only ONE had Rachel's eyes open!!!! At least it didn't take much time to decide which picture to pick!
