My Poor Family (what they have to put up with...)

Posted in PhotoBlogging
I think I may have a new project for my hubby. We have a 3 car (detached) garage. We have 4 vehicles. Only 1 vehicle is actually parked in the garage and only one of our other vehicles will even fit through any of the 3 single garage doors. It's wasted space if you asked me. And I'm thinking... it sure would make a nice photography studio...  A place where I can leave all of my stuff set up, lock a door, leave it there and be able to use it whenever I please, not have anyone use reflectors as frisbies or backdrops to hide behind... hmm......

But not only is there space in there, there is also great light. The light inside our house is not very good and you have to catch it at certain times in certain rooms. If you miss that window of opportunity, you're out of luck. Alek & Millie helped me test my set up before Kenton brought out the nekked baby. These are SOOC or "straight out of camera"- no editing done at all. (except to resize/sharpen/frame for web viewing)

Not bad.

And then out came the nekked baby and her father. I have tried to get this picture/pose 3 times now. Kenton is such a trooper. He's been peed on every time and pooped on too. He was laying on a cushion I'd put on the ground, holding her up over him & she just peed and peed all over him. And did I help? After the hysterical laughter ceased, yes, I did help wipe him and her up a bit. You know you've married a good guy if he can sit there and laugh while a newborn is all over him.

And the first time we tried this.... we tried inside using my hot light. Josiah was downstairs playing with cars nearby while Kenton was standing in front of the backdrop. I had run upstairs to grab something and when I came back down, Kenton just smiled at me and said, "She pooped." That was an understatement. * ing up* It was in his hand, on the floor... and Josiah was a bit freaked. Kenton said as she was going, Josiah said, "Daddy she peed on you!"

I carried her upstairs to clean her off as Josiah was walking downstairs and you'd have thought she had leprosy or something the way he sidestepped us to avoid that scary pooping baby.

Okay, I'll stop there. What is it about having a brand new baby that makes us moms think that poop is an okay topic to blog about? Whew. Anyway.

So like I said, this was the third time I tried to get this shot. I still consider it unsuccessful and maybe, just maybe, I can convince Kenton to try again. *laugh* This little just will not stay fast asleep. Have I posted any pictures of her with her eyes open yet? If not, here ya go.

Now this first one looks weird and I'll tell you why in a sec. Maybe you noticed why right off. But this is the only shot I got of her in this position where she's not grumping, etc. This was before Kenton had his shower. I love it because it looks like she's giving the "okay" sign before she did the deed. But I didn't like it because her little bum area was exposed... so I just cloned that area out. Kenton's other arm & her little bum got cloned out. I tried just cropping it out but that looked even worse. I did a really sloppy job because this isn't one I'll print- no matter how hard I'd try to make it look good, it'd still look funny/off. I know, I talk to much about the photos. I need to just post 'em and not talk about 'em.

And here are two from a different pose that I liked but wish she was asleep...

Already opinionated about having her pic taken...

Do you want to see that one in color? Newborns' skin tones are so extreme, I like 'em better in B&W.

So if a) Julianna cooperates better next time and STAYS alseep and b) I can convince Kenton to do this again, I'll hopefully have better ones to post next time. I'd better wait at least a week before I bring it up again though...

*sniff* I am LOVING all the baby pics! Even though I know you wished she was asleep I absolutely LOVE that she is awake and you got such eye contact! I agree that the b&w are better.. Nakie newborns always look better in b&w when with other family members. The contrast in skin tone is always such a distraction.

ANYWAYS! I LOVE the pictures and she is beautiful! Just like your other 5! Give her some snuggles from me!

Ah Ha Ha....too funny. Yep, newborn mom's talk a lot about poop and a lot about delivery I find. Thankfully if you have other newborn moms' around we're more than happy to participate in this very delicate conversation. After just four kids I can talk poop with the best of them. So if you need to just give me a call and I'll discuss the horrible 9,8,6 year old boy poop while you discuss the sweet innocent breast fed baby girl poop. Deal???

Oh, and I LOVE the studio idea!!!!!!
GO Kenton GO, Go Kenton Go. You can do it!!!

Oh. My. Kenton did great with that situation, Alyssa. LOL! Jon would've freaked OUT. In the few times Kate has peed on him he's turned on me like it was *my* fault somehow! LOL Difference between an RN and a guy who works in sales, I guess. Hee hee...
The pictures you took or little tiny girl are wonderful. I love em. Even the one you cloned the bum out in(although I did notice the fuzzy edge there--whereas usually your PS stuff I could never tell..:) The one of her in b&w facing forward is great. She's soooo tiny! On the color one you can see her hair color so beautifully..it looks almost strawberry blonde? Sweeeeeet.
I hope you get your studio. You honestly..need to be taking pictures..it's a God-given gift you have. And an unused garage is perfect! How fun.

Love-

Let me catch my breath, Alyssa!! Okay, now that I have the visual of Josiah, Kenton, and Julianna (somewhat) pushed to the back of my brain, I'm going to continue with my intended comment:

What beautiful pictures!! No matter what you do to them, it's just plain impossible to snatch a bad one of a newborn. :) Okay, on to the critiquing, because you seem to like that, lol. I agree with you - as much as I would *love* to see that first one re-shot (snowball's chance, probably, but why not ask again?), that current one that you have is just too 'off'. Yep, yep, yep. Love the B&W - I think I told you that before, love the color shot (her skin color is her skin color, Mother), and absolutely love seeing those little peepers open. I see where you're going with them in wanting them closed, however, and definitely think you should bake a super-sized batch of triple fudge brownies and ask Kenton 'pretty please' for a re-do. LOL!! :)

GREAT idea turning your third stall into a studio!!!! You could always install a shower so that Kenton and Julianna don't have as far to go to clean up - oh, and use the 'hose-able floor' as a selling point as well. LOL!!

Thanks for visiting me - two days in a row!! Sheesh, it's like you only have half the amount of children right now - you didn't give any of them away or anything, did you?!?!

Have a lovely day, my friend!
much love and hugs,
Shani

Okay, Lys, I forgot to mention that when I read your post, I did have to re-read the sentence that stated that you were going to take pictures of nekked baby and Kenton. Imagine my reaction when I saw that your hubby was, indeed, fully clothed.

Carry on.

Jul. 23, 2008 - Gabe's twin

After seeing the pic of the baby with her tongue stuck out, I instantly thought of Gabe's dislike of having his picture taken- maybe he does have a fraternal twin after all! I'll be mailing something out to you next week- we have been on vacation.

Jul. 24, 2008 - Clone out tool

Posted by thornfaith
Hey when I use my clone out tool I find it makes it fuzzy or blurry if I use the blurry brushes. You can (well I can on photo shop 7.0) use the brush tool that's solid and work all the way up to your husbands pinky...it's hard to get spot on with the solid brush tool but that is the wonderful thing about the "step backwards button" you can play play play until you get it! I used the clone tool in my avatar picture (the one above) to clone the wall on my left (my right your left) and put it on the right of my because my dear friend was standing there...the reason I am leaning over. I had the hardest time because I could not use the solid brush due to the fact I had such huge amounts of detail to cover. It actually worked okay for the avatar because you cant see the pic that well (and I over cropped making it slightly blurry) but over all I think it looks alright...I love the clone too!

I personally think all those picks are 100% perfect! I think we momzies or better yet picture taking guru's over magnify what others just don't see. I did not even notice your husband MISSING ARM until you mentioned it.

Wow! I love the lighting! Alec looks SO grown up! When did he do that?

The baby pictures are AWESOME! I love that her eyes are open. I think she is saying, "Go ahead, take my picture!" :)

I can't seem to get a decent picture of my four... I can see six being a challenge. What a fantastic challenge to have! :)

Keep those pictures coming. I hope you get your studio. Too cool!

Have a blessed day!

Now I understand why so many baby photos are taken in black and white! You are so right!

Love the shots. Tell Kenton thanks for toughing it out! BTW, when you start talking a lot about a picture and I am clueless I can skim right by to the next photo! But I am sure there are others who can totally understand! I appreciate learning things here and there, so just keep talking! :)

Praying the garage works out!

Wow. How do you find time for all your photography with a new baby? You are blessed to have a family so supportive of your hobby and so willing to have their picture taken. Those are cute shots. Your little one is amazingly little in her Daddy's arms.
