Friday Funnies: Childbirth and Breastfeeding Edition (and other funnies too)

Posted in Friday Funnies
When I got home from the hospital after giving birth to Julianna, I noticed Emilia (5) staring at my shrunken but still poochy belly. She very innocently asked me if I had another baby in my belly.

*************************************

Since the birth of Julianna Kate, my ***** have (unfortunately) been the topic of several conversations. Josiah (3) was intrigued with the whole thing at first. I've had to explain to Josiah that this is how God made mommies to feed their babies and that's how I fed him when he was a baby.

Josiah was observing as I was nursing Julianna soon after she was born. He pointed to the breast opposite the one which Julianna was nursing and very innocently asked, "Was that one mine when I was a baby?"

(if that were so, how would I have nursed his older 4 sibs? LOL!)

*************************************

As I was nursing Julianna one day, I had Emilia standing on one side of me and Josiah on the other. They were arguing about which one (boob) was for food and which one was for a drink.

*************************************

Kenton & our two older boys went to a father/son retreat about 5 hours away recently. They had a really great time! The speaker, Kevin Swanson, was really good (animated!) according to Kenton. After the children went to bed the night they got home, Kenton went over his notes with me and was talking about some of the highlights of the Kevin's talks.

The boys both brought clipboards with pens and paper so they could take notes too. I noticed Gabe's clipboard sitting on top of his suitcase and read the scant bit of notes he took. This is what he got out of several talks over the weekend.

"Don't lev (leave) food close to cracs (cracks- windows) or the bear will com (come) and eat it."

That was it. That's what impressed him most- not to leave food out or bears will come. That and he drew a pictures of Nooshie, our husky.

I am so glad Gabe got so much spiritual food! He came away a changed boy! Hee-hee!

*******************************************

On that same father/son retreat note, my boys were gone for two whole nights! Yes, we sure missed them! Even though Kenton works nights, it felt strange having him gone, knowing he *should* be home. At least I get to see him in the mornings after he works. Now this isn't a funny, but it was too sweet not to share.

Kenton & the boys got home about 9pm Saturday night. They were warmly greeted by all, except Julianna, who was asleep in her swing. (a recent purchase to have as an extra pair of hands when school starts!) Julianna's a daddy's girl and his little napping buddy.

After they brought in their things, we started to eat dinner (we'd waited for them to get home). Julianna started to stir, and at her first little cry, Kenton quickly perked up, looked over in her direction, put his fork down and went over to get her out of the swing. He didn't even hand her over to me or even *ask* if I wanted her, just cuddled her and kissed her sweet head while he proceeded to finish his dinner. I think he missed her. Don't think I didn't notice your eagerness to get your baby girl, honey! Warmed this mama's heart.

*******************************************

As we were leaving the lake on Gracie's birthday, Kenton called from work to let us know that a pod of orcas had been spotted near the harbor earlier in the day. Onlookers could hear the splash of their bodies slapping the water and could even see baby orcas. We missed it!

After I got off the phone with him, I told the children all about it. They thought that was so neat and were bummed we missed it. There was a lot of excitement in the van.

Josiah asks, "Were they statues?"

"No, they were REAL whales!" I told him.

"Can we catch them?" he enthusiastically inquires.

His siblings got a laugh out of that, and one of them informed him he, in fact, could not catch a whale.

"NO! With a NET!" he clarified.

Laughter again. Again, someone let him know that he could not catch a whale, even with a net.

"NO! When it jumps out of the water I will catch it with a net!"

Laughter ensued once again and we just left it at that.

Ah, to have dreams as big as a 3 year old's...

How sweet. Aren't kids just the more curious things? I remember when my niece figured out what I was doing (nursing). You should have seen the look on her face. I don't think she'd ever seen someone nurse before.

Ahhhhhhhhh. Kids.

I also read your prior post. It seems we have 2 children very close in age. If I recall correctly, we both had boys turn 7 in May, and my middle ds will be 9 on the 21st of this month. Will you by any chance have anyone turning 11 in Jan? : )

Their comments are too funny. Kids do say the funniest thing. They certainly are not afraid to ask anything.

Thanks ladies! I just wish I had my computer handy every time they said something funny. They're constantly cracking me up!

Cari- Yes, Gabe turned 7 in May, Gracie 9 in Sept. and nobody turning 11 in Jan., but how about 12 in March? That's pretty close! :)
