Interview With My Children
I saw this posted on someone else's blog and thought it would be fun to do with my children. If any of you decide to do it, let me know so I can read yours! I interviewed them one at a time, privately, so that their answers didn't influence the others.
1. What does mom always say to you?
Alek (11): Do all things without complaining or disputing.
(yes, I suppose you do hear that a lot....)
Gracie (9): I love you. Good night.
(and in that exact order. LOL!)
Gabe (7): Pick up your toys.
Emilia (newly 6!): You say "no" and "yes".
Josiah (almost 4!): G-O-N-S. (what does that mean?) Good-night. (okay little code-talker)
2. What makes mom happy?
Alek: When we surprise you by cleaning the house or something.
(oh yes, that would make me very happy. are you planning on doing that someday?)
Gracie: When we obey.
Gabriel: Thank-you cards and saying I love you.
(thank-you cards? Huh?)
Emilia: If we get done with our chores.
Josiah: Julianna.
(ah, yes. such wisdom for such a little guy.)
3. What makes mom sad?
Alek: Sad? I'm pretty sure you were sad when one of our pets died.
(Pretty sure?)
Gracie: I don't know. I've never seen you sad, mom!
Gabe: I don't really know because I've never really seen you sad.
(okay, obviously not showing negative emotions is one of my faults...)
Emilia: If I get killed or if I go away.
(*snickering* why yes, that would make me quite sad, Miss Millie.)
Josiah: I don't know.
4. How does mom make you laugh?
Alek: You kind of tell funny jokes sometimes. Once in a while.
(kind of? sometimes? once in a while? thanks dude.)
Gracie: When you say, "Ah blow it out your ol' wazoo!" with Julianna.
(okay, for those of you with the raised eyebrows, this obviously needs some 'splainin'. My children started this thing with Julianna. When they see her after a nap or if they're all sitting at the table, one of them will say, "One, two, three!" and on cue, they all know they are to say "Hi Julianna" at the same time. It's quite a phenomenon to behold, actually. And the sing-songy voice in which they say this totally reminds me of the movie Annie when the orphans all say, "We love you MIss Hannigan!" Remember Annie? That was one of my favorite movies growing up. I have a lot of it memorized still. So it only came naturally to respond to their "Hi Julianna" in that orphan girl sing-songy tune with a typical Miss Hannigan retort. Okay, so maybe I didn't pick the best one, but hey. What can I say.)
Gabe: By tickling us.
Emilia: By tickling me.
Josiah: Playing cards. That's all I have to say. Playing cards.
(this child. he cracks me up! YOU, Josiah dear! YOU are what makes me laugh! Playing cards?!)
(ADDED LATER: ohhhhh.... it just hit me as to why he probably said this. We played a game called Last Word with Kenton's parents the other night and we were busting up over some of the answers shouted out... and it is played with cards...)
5. How old is mom?
Alek: Thirty......five?
Gracie: 35?
Gabe: 35.
(Gabe's the only one who didn't hesitate and said it with confidence. He has a thing for knowing people's ages.)
Emilia: Uh...36?
Josiah: 36?
(I can't believe he was so close!)
6. How tall is mom?
Alek: I don't know that. You're about my size and I'm about five feet. So you're about 5 feet, 4 inches.
(Nope. I'm 5'6". You're not THAT close to my height, ya stinker...)
Gracie: Mom doesn't want me to know her height.
(pwahahaha! No, Gracie Dear, that would be my WEIGHT that I refuse to share with the world)
Gabe: 2 feet.
(thanks? Maybe I should've asked Gabe my weight?)
Emilia: 10 inches.
(nope, Millie. I should've asked Millie my weight. 10 inches. LOL! Hey. A person's a person, no matter how small.)
Josiah: Your feet to your hair. (hey, good, accurate answer! I'm impressed!) *runs his finger from my toes to my head* You're 21! (21 what? feet or inches?) *does it again while counting quickly* Eighteen. You're 18 inches!
7. What does mom like to do?
Alek: Play on Hidden Expedition Mount Everest- when you have the time, which is usually at night. LATE at night.
(*snickering* we've had this game for what, 2 weeks? And I don't normally care to play games on the computer...)
Gracie: Take pictures!
(Gracie got that right!)
Gabe: Shop.
(LOL! okay, buddy, you got me pegged.)
Emilia: She likes to sew, play in the summer and that's all. Wait. AND you.... nothing else.
(said in Larry the Cucumber's psychologist's voice, Fascinating!)
Josiah: Play.
8. What is mom's job?
Alek: To make sure we grow up in the ways of the Lord.
(Amen, son!)
Gracie: To keep the kids good and to train us up in the way we should go.
(woo- look at you, quoting scripture and all! That's right, Gracie!)
Gabe: To take care of us.
Emilia: To get clothes and tell us to do our chores.
(if only my job were that easy...)
Josiah: To do everything like pick up toys with me and that's all I have to say.
9. What is mom's favorite food?
Alek: You sure seem to like the baked potato soup otherwise you wouldn't have asked us boys to make it.
Gracie: Macaroni and cheese.
Gabe: You never told us that. (you never asked) Bananas. *he giggles* (I had just taken a bite of a banana when he said that) Just food or healthy food? (either) Peppermint bark. (yes, anything with peppermint and chocolate is a favorite of mine)
Emilia: Probably peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, baked potato soup and split pea soup.
(can you tell what we've eaten lately? that baked potato soup is really good...favorite though?)
Josiah: Waffles and vegetables and onions.
(especially at the same time. LOL!)
10. How do you know your mom loves you?
Alek: There are many reasons. Well, you know the bible says if you don't love your children, you don't discipline them and you sure discipline us. And if you didn't love us you wouldn't take us fun places.
Gracie: Because she cares for me.
Gabe: By taking care of us.
Emilia: Cuz we were just borned and we were first a baby and because we do what you say but not all the time. And even when you spank us we know you still love us. That's all.
(wait a second while I find an interpreter... can you tell by these answers who my most strong-willed children are? The ones that require the most discipline?! Oh my....)
Josiah: Because you tell me.
(plain and simple. I like that.) |

Those were so cute answers. It is fun to see how different they respond depending on their personality and age. Loved reading them. Have a merry Christmas! You're teaching your kids right!
