Enjoying Our Summer!

Posted in PhotoBlogging
The weather has been unusually nice here. And for quite a while now. I'm talking for the last several months; maybe even a year. And by nice, I mean sunshiney days. Yeah, we had more snow than is typical for this area this last winter, but I actually liked that. I'd take snow over rain any day. Well, almost any day. In the past 1.5 months, I think we've had 2 or 3 rainy days. We even had one day that was over 90 degrees. So that's been nice. And this is supposed to be the rainy PNW!

I am also enjoying a freed-up schedule now that we're done with school. I've gotten around to some projects that I couldn't have before- like the jumper dresses I made for Gracie & Millie this last week. Since I actually had something to share, I really wanted to participate in Mary's (canadagirl) Show & Tell Friday. But yesterday ended up being pretty busy. Yesterday I spent nearly 5 hours removing a virus from my computer after hubby downloaded an infected music file (thank you, honey). Do any of you remember that this same thing happened LAST year around this time? Just before I had Julianna? Well, it happened again. This time wasn't as bad as last time though, thankfully. I have now banned hubby from using my computer. hehe. Then we spent the second half of the day with the in-laws & hubby's sister and her husband. So I just never got around to photographing the dresses for Show & Tell. Today I finished up making Julianna some 4th of July beaded socks. So I guess I'll participate next Friday.

Another thing I've been doing is trying out new hair styles on the girls. I found several blogs that do a great job explaining how to do all of these cute hairdo's. There are pics of a couple below (I took them for my parents who've been in CA for a couple of months).

Well, my hubby's trying to hurry me out the door for a walk, so this post is done! I'll just add some pics below.

My baby girl is almost ONE! Can you believe it?

I LOVE this one. Just wish it wasn't so hazy that day.

Spinning the umbrella was Gracie's idea. :)

A couple more things...

I think it was Kristi in one of her comments who asked if I could write up something about how I use Homeschool Tracker. I've filed that suggestion away and will do that when I can! I did write up something about it (with screenshots even) last year. You can find that here. Our needs change every year though and it seems like I'm always learning new ways of doing things on HST.

And someone else asked about typing up something on how I shoot silhouettes at sunset. I typed up something about that a while back here. I changed the category that post was in so it'd be under the "tips" section.

Your photos are beautiful. It seems you've been getting lots of questions, and I have another. How do you get the photos to load to your blog so big? When I choose 'large' during uploading they only come out about a quarter as big as yours.

Wow. I love the shots and I love the hairdos. You are so talented.

I love the shadows through the umbrella. I love the baby silhouette of course, but I can't believe that you let your husband do that with your baby. Oh my!

You really can't tell it's hazy. I don't know how you get such good landscapes. I think there really must have been a huge improvement with the 30D to the 40D with clarity and lack of noise. Of course, I haven't tried that 1.8 lens you told me about.

Anon- Thank you! As for your pictures, start with your software. Does it resize for the web before you upload? You may want to check the settings. If you don't use software before you upload- where are you uploading your pictures? HSB? Photobucket? Many websites that store your photos will automatically resize for you. I use Photobucket to host my pictures. They have a setting where you can choose how you want your picture stored- a max # of MB's or maximum size. I resize my photos myself before I upload them so I don't want them messed with. Like on Facebook, they automatically resize & compress your photos there & they don't look as good. Let me know if that helped or not!

Cathy- Thanks! The hairdos have been fun. I've got Gracie sleeping in spiral rollers tonight. About Julianna & Kenton- she's just a couple of inches away from his hands. :) It looks worse than it really was. I shot that almost sitting on the ground and hubby is tall (6'4"). Kenton does make me nervous sometimes but not that time.

Love, Alyssa

Thanks for your answer - I just upload my photos straight from the computer to my blog using the blogger 'upload picture' button. I don't have a lot of knowledge about storing and resizing photos. I think I will have to learn.

By the way, those hairdos look lovely. I used to do my first daughters hair in so many different ways. Now that I have five daughters they all get a quick ponytail in the morning just to keep their hair out of their eyes (and a plait if they're lucky!)

You know, I think certain blogs and/or blog templates only allow a certain amount of width for your blog posts. So if your picture is wider than the provided space, it will compress it to fit within the space. Blogger may or may not compress your photos- I'm not too familiar with them.

LOL! Some of these hairdos I've done with my girls take a LONG time to do- I only have time to do it now because school's out. Once school starts back up, they're lucky to even get a ponytail! :) You're doing good with 5!
