Here is a letter I thought I'd share from my friend Kim. What do you think???
Open letter to Barack and Michelle Obama,
I know you will soon be moving to Washington DC soon. There will
be many changes for you in your lives and in the lives of your children.
You want a good education for your two girls. You said you didn't think
it would be possible for them to go to public school because of security
concerns. Private schools are very expensive and your kids may not get
the down-to-earth education you want them to get.
My suggestion is that you consider homeschooling them! Both of
you are Harvard graduates and are certainly qualified to teach elementary
and middle school grades even without a teaching degree. They would be at
home to meet and greet world leaders. They would be able to take field
trips with Dad as he travels the country and world running our country. Michelle
could teach them so many things about life. There are so many great
curriculums that you could choose from. Living near all of the
Smithsonian Museums would be a homeschoolers dream! They could learn so
much about history, science, art, music, culture and more.
Don't worry about socialization. I am sure there are many very
good and helpful homeschool groups in the DC area that would be more than
happy to have your two girls come to the park with them or go roller
skating. They could get together and put on science fairs, history
fairs, sing at nursing homes and many more fun and educational
activities. Of course don't forget to join a homeschool PE class
to get involved in team sports.
You would really enjoy fun and educational times with your
children. You would be their best teachers and have a close relationship
with them. Their education would be consistent and not change if you
moved from state to state over their 12 years of education before
college.
I homeschooled my own children for 13 years and can tell you that
it is a hard job that becomes such a big part of your life, but it is so rewarding. My oldest
two children have graduated now and I will never regret my choice to
spend so much time during their childhood with them. They are
responsible, hard working young adults of whom I am very proud.
Sincerely,
Kim Kisacky
