New Review!!! Math Mammoth!!!

About the product:

There are really lots of products from Math Mammoth.  No matter what your elementary child's needs are, I'm betting that Math Mammoth can help!  Whether it's a full curriculum, or just some needed review in one or two areas, Math Mammoth has it.  Do you like downloads or CD's?  Math Mammoth has both.  Prefer a hard copy?  Many of their products are available in book form.  And best of all, their prices a great!  For example, I checked out a download for Addition and Subraction practice, and it was only $4.00!  That was for a 75 page book out of which 57 were actually work pages.  Then I checked out the first grade full curriculum.  There are two books, A and B, which cost only $14 each.  That's only $28 for a whole year of math.   The author, Maria Miller, a former college math instructor, has made it her goal to make math instruction reasonably priced for everyone!

Here's a breakdown from the website that explains the different products available:

The BLUE SERIES are worktexts with explanations in between the problems. In other words, the 'text' and the 'work' (=problems) alternate. These are perfect for those parents who have a weak math background. Also, with the worktexts one lesson spans several pages instead of just one page.

The GOLDEN SERIES are grade level collections of worksheets: just one-page worksheets without any explanations. They are just math problems, like you'd find in a math book, one topic per page, especially designed for teachers - or parents - who wish to have worksheets to give for homework or to work at class, but who will provide the explanations and teaching themselves.

The GREEN SERIES are collections of worksheets by topic. They are one-page worksheets without any explanations, but concentrating on one topic per book. The books contain worksheets of various difficulty across several grade levels. These are perfect for teachers again.

The LIGHTBLUE SERIES is a complete math curriculum, currently available for grades 1, 2, 3, and 4. Each grade contains two worktexts, answer keys, and tests.

What are the pros of this product?  There are LOTS of pros!  First of all, you can download everything, so no shipping, and no waiting for the mail man.  (OK, I know, sometimes it's fun to wait for a package, but it' also fun to get stuff right away!)  Anyway, imagine your child is new to the concept and makes several mistakes.  You can simply print out a new page and start all over.  Plus, you can use the same books for your next child.  Very cost effective.  If you prefer to use CD's, you can order it that way.  (For me, I avoid CD's as we always end up scratching them.)  And if you are "old school" and simply must have a book, you can order it that way too.

Another pro is that you can order just practice sheets, practice sheets with explainations, books that cover one topic, or books that cover a whole year's worth of material.  The prices are great, and if you buy more than one product you can sometimes bundle things to save even more.

The author, Maria Miller, also sends out a newlestter and will also send you Math Teaching e-mails if you sign up.

What's not to like?  Once again, I'm feeling a bit guilty, because I can't really think of a con for this program.  Since there are so many products available, in so many formats, I can't imagine that there isn't something just perfect for you and your homeschool.

The Crazy Mom take:  I got lucky somewhere along the way and have several kids who just love math.  The rest at least like it, and they are all pretty good at it.  (Well, First Born didn't like Algebra too much, but he's catching on now.)

Mr. Personality actually had been telling me that even though he is doing very well in Algebra 1, he felt that he could use some practice in multiplication and long division.  This was right before I was able to choose the materials I wanted to review.  So I got the Multiplication and Division downloads and they were just what he needed.

Bear is a workbook maniac and she loves anything like this, so I also asked to review the full second grade curriculum.  The reason I love it is that I can just print out the pages that she needs to work on for the day.  No bulky workbooks to take up space, or for us to lose.  (We have a serious problem misplacing books around here!  There always seems to be at least one book missing. )  Anyway, we can put the page on the fridge for a few days or just toss it.  It's so freeing!  LOL

I have a feeling I am going to be strongly considering using Mammoth Math for at least some of the kids next year.  The price is decent and I can get exactly what I want and in what format.  I love the downloads.  Since I can use the downloads for more than one student in my family it is really a bargain.  So much better than a workbook that I can only use once.  I like it!

What's the bottom line?  Prices vary, but they are all very reasonable!

I am going to give Math Mammoth 5 out of 5 smileys!!!

*The Smiley System:

I can't really recommend this product.

I doubt this product would be helpful to many people.

This is a good product, but isn't right for everyone.

Most homeschool moms will find this useful.

This is great, and I would recommend it to anyone!!!
